  1. Another cold day ont he cards for us I think. We may not be hitting the depths of temperatures others have been during the night - mainly because we live near the sea, but another -8'C over night, and at present we are still -5.4'C (11.30am).

Not long back from a walk down to get the papers, and I noticed that the River Averon has frozen over in the last couple of days.

No more snow overnight though, just the small dusting yesterday afternoon. I think it's going to be a hit or a miss if we get any today too.

  2. The snow has stopped here now, with the ground being so cold it took no time at all to settle on the path and top of cars etc, the roads and pavements are well gritted though, so nothing settled there.

I think we'd be lucky to say we had 1cm though.

Temperatures rose by a few degrees when the snow came over, but have dropped away again, back to -2'C again

  3. Just started to snow with us here. Been falling for around 10-15 minutes now and getting heavier.

Temperatures have been around -5'c all day, although just before the snow arrived it has climed to the dizzy heights of -0.5'C.

Although I say it's getting heavier, it's not quite prawn cracker snow, very small flakes, but many off.

  4. Another cold morning, currently -6.8'C with us.

Just seent he BBC weather andthey mentioned another cold day for us, but had an early warning for Snow tomorrow down Souf.

Then had a look at www.raintoday.co.uk and seen that there is a fair substantial band of snow heading South just bumping into the North coast as I type.

No mention of that even on the Scottish Weather

  5. Totally dry with us up here today. Although the cold is more the problem.

The current temperature I'm recording is -7.6'C, and as I said earlier top temperature today was -3.6'C.

Getting quite bored of it all now, especially since we only have the cold and not much in the way of further snow activity - plenty of settled snow (frozen solid now).

I'd be quite happy if the temperatures were rise a bit as long as we got snow.

  6. Yet another cold day here. I've now not recorded a temperature above freezing since Monday - and even then it was about +1.5'C for about 2 hours.

Today's warmest temperature has been -3.7'C (so far)while the lowest overnight was -8.4'C. Every day since Monday has seen similar temperatures, although with it having being so cold over the course of the week I don't think we've had as much snow as others have across the country. In saying that we probably have around 10 inches of settled snow, which has totaly frozen solid now.

I see the temps are supposed to stay below frezing for quite a while to come yet.

Here is a photo I took yesterday of some sheep struggling away in the snow.

  7. The odd flake of snow falling here, but nothing of note.

Just enough to give it the christmas feel.

Warmest it's been today though, currently -1.5'C.

I was out digging snow of the grans path in -6'C temperatures. The funny thing was the humidity levels were so low that it didn't feel that cold. And in fact for a while I was digging away in a t-shirt.

  8. Cold one today.

We werew -6'C until about 12noon, but the temps hve risen quite a bit over the last 2 hours or so, currently at a balmy -1.9'C here.

I seen on the metoffice website that Altnhara was recording -12.8'C at noon.

Anyone no what the lowest maximum ever recorded has been ? I guess it was a good bit lower than that back in 1995/6 when Altnahara recorded the -27'C

  9. We're taking a pretty big hit with the snow tonight. I wasn't quite expecting it either.

Had about 8 inches by this afternoon, it thawed and settled a bit so down to about 5 or 6 inches. But must have had another 3 inches so far tonight, and it's still hammering down.

Got to go to bed now though, probably need up early in the morn to dig the car out again !

  10. Snow has turned to rain here and the dusting of snow has melted kind of disappointed was expecting a bit more conditions were perfect last night but the showers didn't last long enough. Temps now 4c it might snow again tonight and tommorow but not expecting anything special.

We have a small shower just now too, and although there are still some snowflakes, it appears to be turning more to rain. emperatures have risen to +1'C

  11. If you're getting frequent snow at -2C what more could you need in life?? :yahoo:

Just as long as the temps don't continue to rise !

Just noticed ont he radar, that the run of showers is more or less perpendicular to the great glen, and very few of the showers seem to be making it past the Great Glen.

And to make you all jelous, the snow is back on here... Temps still -2.1'C

  12. The temperature fell away quickly this afternoon after the snow went through.

Started this morning with us around 10am, although as rain, by 10.30 is was snow and started to lie within 30 minutes. The snow was fifnished by about 12.30pm though, not much of a covering, but a little.

It quickly froze though and the road conditions are very icy now.

The temperature was +3'C at 9am, but by 2pm was down to -2'C.

Fallen to -4'c now though and still falling steadily

  13. I'm about 20 miles North of Inverness, and more or less sea level.

We got about 30 minute sof light rain before it turned to sleet then snow.

The ground was wet obviously before the snow arrived, the snow took a further 30 minutes or so before it bagan to settle on the grass, and has now started ot settle on the pavements/tops of cars.

Roads still clear although starting to turn slushy.

While I mormally like the snow, I could do without it today as the football is probably in doubt if it continues for a few hours !

  14. What a day we've had !

Woke up this morning to see a river on the road outside. I made it to work, but even though work is only 1 mile away, I still had to take a detour of about 3 miles as the direct route was under 4 feet of water.

There was no way out North or South of Alness, the A9 road was closed because of flooding, the minor roads because of landslides/flooding.

Anyway, as only a few made it into work, it was closed and we were all sent home at lunch time as high tides at 1.30pm were giving cause for concern.

I thought the worst had past then, but as it turned 3pm the wind got up. I measured average winds of 48mph with gusts upto 65mph.

Needless to say I can no longer get back out of Alness, this time due to fallen trees, there is hundreds down.

The rain also returned, after a brief sunny spell, of about 2 hours, and the floods returned everywhere

The wind and rain seems to have left us now, although we are still getting the odd shower.

I know the wind strengths weren't that of hurricane force, but looking around the place it's the sort of damage you see on the news reporting hurricanes.

At least the Electricity is back on now !

  15. Should be ok,thats if the old stand does not get blown away :)

Will you be coming down to the glebe tomorrow?

Nope, Car is in the garrage, one of the wheels on the timing belt broke, bending 6 valves, so I have a costly repair bill coming my way.

As for the weather, seems to be picking up a bit up here, lights have been browning out, but not gone as yet, but the candles are out and at the ready.

The rain is also pouring down - well maybe not down, more side-ways tahn anything

  16. A gust of 74mph was recorded on the Tay Bridge earlier today.

Its gotten very windy up here in the last couple of hours, I normally use the weather station at Glascarnoch, but it seems to have been knocked out by the wind this evening, so I don't have any accurate readings - but the house is shaking a bit.

As for ICE - How's the weatehr looking for the match between our teams tomorrow ??
