  1. Alness, Highland

Very stormy night, and the winds are still quite strong today. There was a lot of heavy snow showers overnight too, so I was quite surprised to see very little lying this morning, maybe it was more lying snow being blown about. We are still getting the snow showers too, but they are quite light now.

    Current Temp = 1.6'C

    Pressure - 1008mb (Rising)

Windspeed - 28mph (NW) gustong in excess of 60mph

  2. Alness, Highland - Part 2

Almost into tomorrow, but the snow arrived here this evening, I was up at my parents and the drive home wasn't the best.

No persistant snow, but very blustery snow showers, the ground is pretty we so nothing really lying on the roads or pavements, but the grass and trees have quite a bit of snow on the windward sides.

Looks as though it could be a stormy night ahead for us.

    Current temp = 0.4'C

    Pressure - 995mb

    Wind - 17mph (W) gusts upto 32mph

  3. Alness, Highland

A bit late, but with the rain battering of the window I couldn't be bothered in getting up.

Yip, the new year has started with heavy rain, a bit of a breeze, but it is also a lot coller than it was the last couple of days... but they do forecast snow for us tonight !!

    Current temperature = 5.1'C

    Pressure - 996mb (Falling)

    Wind - 5mph (SW) gusts around 10mph

  4. Alness, Highland

It was a brilliant sunny day here, although very very cold, and the snow that fell on Friday is still here.

Top temperature is just now as it has been rising slowly since 7pm, Currently at 0.9'C, During the day it was around -1'C

    Overnight the lowest was -9.2'C

As I said clear skies all day, little patches of high cloud for an hour or so before dusk, I think it is clouding over a bit now though.

I took a walk up to the top of Fyrish monument today 453 meters up, the temperature there at 1pm was -6'C, with a stiff breeze, Even with a thick jacket and layers apon layers of clothes I was frozen.

  5. Alness, Highland

I'm at work so don't have any temperatures or official figures.

But we now have blusterly snow showers which have just started.

There was heavy rain overnight, snow on the moutains, but it froze this morning giving very bad roads.

Not sure if the snow will settle as it is quite wet after all the rain of recent days.

But the sky is so dark we still have the street lights on and it's almost 9.30am..

  6. Alness, Highland

A much brighter and warmer day that yesterday. Scattered clouds with the occational shower of light rain.

    Pressure - 1004mb (falling)

    wind - 15 mph (WSW)

What a difference from the last few days.

I couldn't believe how fast the temperatures rose yesterday. At 3pm the temperature was 1.2'C but by 6pm it had gone up to 8.5'C and that was despite the sun going down.

  7. Alness, Highland

Cold and wet, rain started early this moring with temperatures below freezing, so the roads and pavements have been terrible.

Wind - Calm, gusts of only 2-3 mph from all directions

The top temperature throughout the day was ms0.2'C.. no good for standing watching football :) and we got beat :)

There is some thin high clouds, (Im not clever enogh to know their names, thats my next mission) so maybe there is indications that changes are about to happen.

  11. Alness, Highlands

The anticipated snow hasn't arrived  (although local radio says Caithness has some snow)

Strong winds last night did a good job of drying up all the rain that fell yesterday afternoon and evening, but the wind has siince dropped.

    Now overcast, calm and cold

Current Temp - ms0.4'C (rising slowly) (Min overnight ms1.2'C)

Current Wind - 6 mph (WNW) (I thought it was meant to be northerly by now ??)

    Humidity - 40%

  12. 9C and rain here, quite windy at times from the W.

Pete, somone from Inverness is claiming they are in a blizzard on Slow Watch, with a couple of CM lying already?  True/False ?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm about 15 miles North of Inverness, we have had heavy rain this evening with the strong winds, but no snow. However I am just slightly above sea level, there was snow on the hills this afternoon, so I suppose if they lived in some of the higher areas of Inverness I suppose there is a chance there was some snow.

I tried checking the Inverness webcam but it has been off line for ages now.

  13. Alness, Highlands

    Update at 1900 hrs

Very Stormy evening, We are experiencing electricity brown outs over the last couple of hours.

I posted this morning, but things have changed quite a bit.

The temperature is now only 2.6'C

Has been very windy all day, current wind speed around 39 mph, but it has turned more NW, gusts around 60 mph

The pressure is 1003 mb, has been falling slowly all day.

Heavy rain showers all afternoon, I've not seen snow flakes, but my collegue at work says there was sleet mid afternoon.

  14. I know it is a couple of days late, but there was a little snow on the A9 between Inverness and Perth on Saturday morning, the road was clear, but the grass verges were white for about 30 miles or so, but then we were 1500 feet or so ASL. There was a good dusting on the moutains too, and it lasted all day as it was still there on the way home too.
