Theres a world of difference between commenting on a day 16 chart than making a forecast with specifics for day 26 through 33.

Stewart - week 4- instability? Whats that supposed to mean-? Pretty pointless by anyone's standards -

we are almost in the realms of Piers Corbyn fantasy nonsence...

As far as I can see there is no difference in commenting on day 16 and 26 when the flip about day to day! A week or so people were saying they see a cold run up to Christmas and now it seems winter is over....again.

The models are like a crystal ball and you see what you want to see in them. Coldie and mildie alike!

tomaz shafenakker just aid hints of something much warmer as hit the end of the coming week into the weekend, yaaaaaaaaaay :D

Ties in nicely with the ECM0z so fingers crossed the trend continues and the red crayon will come out ..;)

BBC must watch the models like us and ramp up and down at each outcome! Friday til Sunday we were going to have heat next weekend, then yesterday they said that it was now going to be changeable. Now they've flipped back again .

These super computers they use......are they any  improvement on a sinclair zx spectrum?

  3. Well! I've seen so many forecast maps now that i think my area..... north westish Brum is going to have a dry saturday night and up to 6" of snow, with rain and frost!

I am reminded of last winter with the last blast of snow that was to come from a storm coming up from france. For two days we were told in the west mids we were to get the brunt of if it, but I sat and watched the rainfall radar as it tracked NE and missed us completely!

So what I'm saying is this, don't take it too seriously if someone says your town is about to get dumped on tomorrow night. We will only know the true position as it happens, this is a nowcast situation! Good luck to everyone who is desperate for a bit of the whitestuff! I think we're all mad ;)

  4. Oh my lord, I was about to give up hope and i've just looked outside and it's quite heavy out there! Where has this come from? It's even starting to stick on some cars that's left water from thawed ice...

    EDIT:

Slowed back to moderate now but it's left quite a noticeable dusting practically everywhere...

You had me going there ...iwas up the window like a whippet! :yahoo:

  5. Thanks Brian.

And a HNY to you fella.

Just to add more thoughts again, for Notts, Derbys, Leics, Warks and Staffs.

The band of PPN has decayed over the last few hours, however, the decay 'potentially, looks to have at least stalled for now.

For some indication, have a look in the Yorks/Lincs thread.

Notts is perhaps going to fair best from this, however Leics, if the ppn does not decay further, might also get some showers out of this.

Derbys (North) should also do ok, and showers look like they are starting to fill in, however, South Derbys are unlikely to do as well, with still some risk.

Staffs might do ok, but may be a little to far west, whilst Warks may do ok again if ppn continutes, but the further east the better.

Worcs are perhaps in a less favourable position, and whilst Northants too may also be in a similar position, the potential is slightly better.

So in terms of risk, I would say, with the highest risk of snowfall, as follows:

    1. Notts - 50%

    2. North Derbs -45%

    3. North Staffs - 40%

    4. North Leics - 35%

    4. South Derbs - 35%

    6. South Staffs - 30%

    6. South Leics - 30%

    6. North Warks - 30%

    8. North Northants - 25%

    9. South Northants - 20%

    9. South Warks - 20%

    11. Gloucs/Worcs - 15%

Radar as I say, is looking ok...well...at least holding up to some degree.

TV Forecasts are showing a brief spell for the northern parts of the region, but not so for the southern half.

METO Warnings are now downgraded to Icy Patches, so if any snow, expect it to be light.

But, as we saw today, we really just do not know what is going to happen.

Nothing for the West Midlands then?
