If i was in the midlands i'd be warning family members etc of whats coming.
Some places could see silly ammounts of snow,Birmingham etc.
:blush:
I just looked at the snow risk maps and can't see this. Can you tell me where it shows we in brum might at last get some decent snow
-
well the weather outside is frightful
but the fire is so delightful
but since there's no where to go
let it snow
let it snow
let it snow
i think those are the words
snowing in the black country

Meteox predictive radar shows the rain/sleet/snow will hit Brum at about 10 O'Clock and last about 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
-
I think that the fragmenting may only be temporary,if you look at the 1600 and the 1630 frames on the meto radar it seems to join up again and get a bit thicker or am i just hoping it has?

Just went out with me ruler to measure snow depth at 2000hrs and it turns out my estimate was bang on. 5cm in Northampton, up to about 8cm in drifts, making it the snowiest December event in this town in 4 years. (Dec 27/28th 2005)
i know i'm a bit jealous because at least you've had some snow, but is the difference between 5 and 8 cm really a drift?

If you look on the radars i think you'll see that we will get something tonight ..... just not a lot!

Hi guys
We had a heavy snow shower this afternoon and it has left a dusting. Just been outside and we had another very light shower. The lying snow has already frozen over.
Where was that then? Brum?
-
I don't want to put a dampener on things, and there is no-one that loves cold and snow as much as I do, but, I remember this time last year we were in for something special and it came to nothing.
I hope we're not building outselves up for another fall.

Is it me or are the people that are writing off Summer using FI charts, the same ones that constantly say that you can't trust anything past T96 when snow is shown in winter?
-
im reckon the 'green shoots' may well be flooded out, this week is shaping up (here) to be worse then anything 07 threw at us. and the current output doesnt suggest it will improve. with a prediction of 50/50 for something more settled early august, that means its 50/50 that it WONT improve.... guess which 50% im backing B)
So you're saying we're going to get widespread floods with whole towns cut off?

Go on the internet, find a decent weather site ( something like this one!), copy the forecast. Go onto google and search for a translation site then paste the forecast and Blodwyn's your uncle!
-
Give the Welsh and Scots and Irish what they want and while we're at it can we have a forecast just for the north of Watford because I don't like the South East bias on TV.
Better still let's have a midlands forecast and met office in case the notherners take too much tv time up. No! make it a west mids forecast because the east mids always get more snow than us!
Wait a minute! Don't like wolverhampton or Brum so make it a Black Country Met Office or how about a met office for each street or even each family, 'cept for the mother in law!
Full employment at last ... everyone is a forecaster!

I thought I was going mad....it's totally white outside! Where did this come from ?
Did anyone forecast it?
-

Are you serious?
Its not snowing in Dingletown?

Is this rain moving in too quick?
It's been raining here for most of the morning.

www.meteox.co.uk ?
www.raintoday.co.uk ?
Im awaiting the 18z GFS Run now...probably a downgrade for us while everywhere can expect 10 foot drifts.
Thanks Blizzards, Meteox was the one!

Good evening people, I wonder if I could ask a favour?
The other night someone posted a link for a site showing radar images of the advancing precipitation which was fantastic and I spent half the night watching the snow pass by.
Does anyone remember the link and if so could you let me know what the address was?
-
Thats got my head whirring a bit, but thanks for the help and the links. Time to do a lot more reading I think!

When looking at the 18Z run yesterday I tracked a high pressure system that I think is called the azures high cross the atlantic and end up over the British Isles at the end of the run.
Looking at the 00z run this morning, the high pressure is at least 500 miles further south at the end of the run.
Why is there so much difference in the two runs and is the data used from a different source?

Ground covered in the precious whitestuff here in Rowley Regis, just outside Birmingham.

Have you any idea when the summer long forecast will be updated? Last update 17/05/07, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Yesterday whilst watching the lightening I saw what looked like dark ribbons of cloud hanging below a big black cloud. As the cloud got closer the ribbons seemed to be sucked upwards into the main cloud mass.
Have you any idea what caused it and is this a common occurence?

just saw the local bbc weather and the graphic showed rain on the northern edge and snow to the south. Is this right ... I thought it would be the opposite.
