  1. Can you post the charts to show us what you mean?

I have noticed that GFS 850's are always modelled a good deal colder over the Arctic than its European counterparts but I think it is because the starting data is very limited for that region so it is estimated to some degree rather than measured but I don't think that is relevant to what you are asking.

I've tried to explain in pictures but i'm no Tony HartPosted Image

  2. Evening folks..

I last logged on a few days ago and it all seemed doom and gloom with milder conditions for the medium range.

Just watched the East Midlands BBC weather and they advised that after the weekend it will be turning much colder with an extended cold spell.

Sticking their necks out there aren't they?

    **sorry just seen previous post..

  3. Notts should do very well from this! It seems to be bang in line with that stream of showers coming from Skeggy area :) Leicester at the moment is catching a few smaller moderate intensity showers which is nice. Had a heavy shower about 40 minutes ago that lasted about 5 minutes but had big flakes.

Notts and Derby deserve this though, they have been so unlucky so far so this is their turn.

Ill drink to that Andy :)

  4. GMTV just mentioned snow spreading across the Midlands later and perhaps reaching East Wales! :(

I dont remember this being forecast yesterday!

BBC said that there would be snow showers effecting parts of the east midlands but did look like that they would struggle to get to Nottingham. The Radar however show a more organised band working its way inland :(

Unless that's just what I am wanting to see

  5. Could do with the PPN shifting a bit more northwards, but its a struggle. Still have barely 1cm on the ground. Snizzle not helping.

I think so. If you you look at the GFS sea level pressure charts the centre of the low is moving north by a 10-15 miles from 21:00 until 03:00.

Not much admittedly but if your in that 15 miles it makes all the difference...

  6. lol!!! well I used to work in Beeston and that would be far easier to get to, but I work over in Leicestershire now, and refuse to risk the roads!!!! as for the bus, well, it would take forever, !!!!!!!!

Permission taken, and therefore I think stay at home with the dog is a great idea!!! lol!!!!!

Still snowing here, quite fast but small flakes,

    But I want more lol!!!!!!!!pardon.gif

Well fingers crossed this should last for some time so we should get some snow from the east :wallbash:

Sounds bad but can't wait for the Atlantic breakdown in a way (when it arrives). That could be a corker

  7. Yeah, we are about the same, I'm over the other side in Long Eaton, small, lots and persistant flakes!!!! It's great, definatley not driving tomorrow, and doubt I will bother with the bus, last time it snowed earlier in the year ot took hours on the bus to get to work, so think I will probably go for a snow day!!! Really hoping that it has set in for the night now lol!!!!clap.gif

I work in Beeston. I didn't drive in today, far to dangerous. We had a car smash through the wall over the road today!

You have my permision to stay at home :whistling:

  8. Anyway, judging by Radar, the south east Midlands looks like it's going to see some severe snowfall over the next few hours!

    Winter is truly here now!

    Hi weather09

Do you think the falls over London at the mo would wrap around the low and head up to East mids?

Nottingham may be a little to much north :whistling:

  9. Well after having pretty much nothing all day :) and thinking that we will probably miss out tonight as well :) I spent an hour clearing a 12ft section of the road to stop cars sliding into my car currently stranded on the road.

You may think this was a little over the top but after watching a car slide down the hill into the wall opposite you would understand.

I look outside to see if the table salt has taken effect and low and behold it snowed and all my handy work has gone :)

  10. And just as you say that - it's now started to snow in NG7! :) Looks very fine flakes.

If you think Nottingham's bad for snow, bear in mind where I live when not at uni - just outside of Bournemouth, must be one of the most snowless places...

I'm in NG5 so not that far away.

I'll let you know when it stops :)
