  1. First proper snow shower here 10 minutes ago. Only lasted briefly. Seems very patchy, and the radar would agree. Seem to be getting a feed of light showers now pushing down on a NE'ly wind from the Wash. Not enough to cause any problems yet.

Good to see the showers pushing inland as far as Aycliffe and Darlington. Sometimes they rarely make it further than Stockton, if it's just a bog-standard northerly.

  2. The snow in Bedford this afternoon settled a bit, giving a covering on cars, roofs, grass and slush on the road. On the drive home up the A6 it was quite thick on the outskirts of Rushden on the laybys and side roads, about 2-3 inches. It's thawed quite abit, but stopped thawing now as the skys clear. Still about an inch on the grass and pavements in places.

Just goes to show even small differences in altitude/urban heat make the difference between snow settling or not - Bedford (25m) trace of snow settling, OS spot height on A6 2 miles south of Rushden (103m), upto 3 inches.

Nice snowy pictures on local news from Northampton Town's Sixfields stadium tonight.

Can't recall the met office forecasting snow for Bristol?

  4. After several hours of occassional snow and sleet i'm reassured that the thermometer has dropped below 1 degree celcius. But for the past two hours it's just been frozen rain, it makes a racket on my patio and windows. The radar suggests that this precipitation is now a bit stuck over eastern england, probably end up as drizzley bits, before giving our lucky contential neighbours a decent dump.

  5. We've got light snow here now. 90m asl. Don't think there's much chance of it settling, but you've got to keep the dream alive. Don't believe for one minute it's going to get upto 5 degrees here tomorrow. Hopefully the oclusion will get stuck and be fed by cold air off the continent as it attempts to dive into central Europe. Surely some NE's have to come into the equation at some point, even for a 12 hr spell.

    Forever an optimist for 2004

  6. Would have gone to bed - but I was watching the weather radar precipitation moving into the Northamptonshire area - and it's just arrived 3am. Been monitoring the wind direction and temperture too. Now blowing NNW here with a temp of 1.8 on my outside thermometer, and now snowing (approx 90m ASL - new house not yet on OS maps). Will try to submit some pics to show if it gets heavy enough.

Worth staying awake for, because i'm not sure that the snow showers tomorrow will make it this far inland (it's approx 45-50 miles due NE to the Wash).
