  1. Nothing doing ppn-wise here, but cloud amounts are encouraging. Just saw itv regional forecast online... http://www.itvlocal.com/granada/weather/blackpool/ ... good for those in the east of the region but not too good IMBY.
  2. Right, I'm going to the window to see if I can spot some grains too! It's colder AND cloudier than I thought it would be at this stage. If the cloud is making it over the Pens already and the meto is expecting a n-w movement tomorrow it's looking good. I might suggest we go and visit my wife's dad who lives in Horwich, near Winter Hill, as it will surely live up to its name!
  3. Issued 10 mins ago on meto site folks. I'll take 60% this side of the Pennines, though the meto do often cover their backs and err on the side of caution, so we'll see... http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/nw/...t_warnings.html
  4. No offence taken pal - glad to have someone else from Lancs here tbh! Sorry if you thought I was having a go - I've been bemoaning the nw's lack of snow since 2003 when I joined the forum and probably should have borne the lack-of-snow factor in mind before we moved here! I totally agree with the need to stay light-hearted in these situations. Good luck for these week mate.
  5. Can't we wait until after whatever we get for such emotional words as 'gutted'. Personally I am positive but realistic. You may be right H*S - the odds are that other places will get more. When my team Plymouth played Arsenal in the cup it didn't stop 9000 Argyle fans going to the Emirates! Gutted now? No - just ready to lampost watch with a realistic head! Gutted if there is only 0.5cm or less? No, cos I'm used to that anyway! It's a win-win situation really if you approach it like that - an attitude I've learnt to develop over several years.
  6. Agreed ST - just to see flakes falling will be good here. The bonus would be if it stays and accumulates!! As an exiled Plymouth Argyle fan I will be seeing them against Preston at Deepdale Tues evening so will be interesting to see micro-regional variations. Of course, if I can't get out of St Annes because of snow I won't mind going to the match at a later date! Good luck to everyone in the NW!
  7. Thanks a lot for a very clearly explained sequence of charts. Even showed the possibility of some light ppn for my area! Btw, worked perfectly for me - IE 7.
  8. That map is strangely re-assuring for me. I'm in a 0-5 region like many (how ironic that these are white!), and to know that is a bit like buying a lottery ticket without any false expectation! Seeing it so graphically laid out is very sobering, but (and here we go again)... it doesn't say '0' - it actually says up to 5! A small, half full glass. How's that for positivity!
  9. Nope - no snow here either, despite the fact that at 6pm yesterday our local (ie coastal) radio station - Radio Wave forecast heavy snow for the Fylde Coast and difficult conditions till at least mid-morning. Result? Rain from midnight onwards! Still, has been the coldest start to winter here in these parts in the 7 years we've lived here.
  10. I like most extremes of weather except really hot conditions. If it's more than about 22c in the summer and there's no breeze then I'll sit in the shade rather than the sun, but if it's -2c and cloudy in the winter I'll be outside in case I miss a single flake of snow! I like heavy convective showers like TWS, with some hail and thunder mixed in ,and when we had it really windy here last Feb/March (can't quite remember), I was down on the sea front taking pics. I think I'm a frustrated storm chaser. But my favourite weather of all is snow, hoping for it, waiting for it watching it and being in it. I know it has it's dangers but to me it's just magical. Because of its rarity on our shores, it feels like it's more valuable! Here's to some this winter.
  11. Stephen, I've got icy rain here. Do you think DP's and temps will lower as the evening draws in and i might get snow? Will the heavier ppn continue heading N?
  12. Settling nicely now. This is great, as yesterday it looked like I'd be right on the fringe of things and later in the day. Out for a walk now I think. Temp 0c and DP of -2 so should be good for a while yet.
  13. Snowing nicely here now, trying hard to settle. Sooo good just to see it falling at last. Stephen, did you expect to get 5cm (and so soon in the day?)
  14. Hi there, Used to live in Malvern, which'll get a hammering tomorrow. Even thought of travelling down there tonight, but didn't think my wife would approve!
  15. I know I said on the last model thread that I didn't want things to go too north, but I'll take any snow that's going, and n-w ppn type charts from this run look good for my area from this.
  16. Hi TS. I'm about 100 miles south of you and I hope it DOESN'T get this far north. If you read many posts you'll spot that if it does it will mean that mild air will follow, reducing chances for a possible better snow event Saturday. A bit like refusing a mars bar today with the promise of a large box of chocolates later. What we do get won't be much anyway.
  17. I have to concur with that. Got a month's worth the other day and it is brilliant. Worth it for the radar alone, but all the GFS extra stuff is really useful too.
  18. I'll cling onto that one as a possibility. Would be better all round that it didn't reach this far to boost chances of something better later though, but if it is coming this far north, than I hope it'll squeeze as much snow as possible. Radar at the ready!
  19. Just looked at the n-w extra charts for tomorrow. Acc to those, I'm looking at 6-9 hours of snow tomorrow. So many people are saying it just won't get that far, so I don't know whether to get excited ot not. Guess it'll be a case of radar watching, as it will be for many. I'm just imagining the Malvern Hills (where I used to live) near Worcester. Some nice sledging for a while tomorrow there I would have thought.
  20. Kold, would you include NW England in that. Still worried about marginal temps here, though BBC does give heavy snow warning for Blackpool. Best chance for a long time though.
  21. Well I'm in that pink 'egg'. Can't see why there'll be an 'island' of snow round here, but good for a laugh.
  22. Take that back - this is better than the 06z but looks like a snow to rain affair. Just hope not too quickly.
  23. Temps just don't look good for NW England even for anything transiational (maybe I'm just thinking about my area) Not the Feb '96 this looked like a couple of days ago. Aah well...
  24. Temps so far about a degree HIGHER than the 06z. Not looking great atm.
