  1. A long way to go before this years shows start but this one is going to be pretty awsome, the largest formation of ww2 fighters to take to the skies on Kent on August 18th to celebrate the 75th anniv of the Battle of Britain: http://www.sevenoakschronicle.co.uk/Legendary-Spitfires-Hurricanes-set-Biggin-Hill/story-25884642-detail/story.html
  2. Sevenoaks NW Kent, started snowing very lightly here, but it is snow not sleet at 150mts ASL.
  3. I am now waiting for the Davis Vue to arrive with Data logger, I think it came in at £395 just a little over budget.
  4. I have decided to send the Nexus back, it measured a top wind speed of 7mph last night, we took it in and spun it at hundreds of rpm and could only manage 19mph so clearly something is wrong with it. I have got a budget up to @£300 for a slighly better one if anyone has any suggestions?
  5. Set on Gusts, showing 6mph with gust of 10mph which just doesn't seem right some how??
  6. Not a software issue, but I had a Nexus delivered today, its all setup and appears to be functioning, but the wind speed is completely wrong. It is only showing a speed of @4-5 miles PH. yet it is clearly around 3 times that and it is spinning properly? Do I have a faulty unit or am I missing something? Cheers
  7. The whole sky is cracking from East to West, some incredible forks, a lot of activity to my North East @Medway towns - ish.
  8. Sitting in my conservatory in north Kent on the downs, its awsome but quite scary really, surrounded by flashes bangs rumbles and folk lightening...
  9. A little video my son did for practice at Duxford last weekend:
  10. The IPCC said this: "The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says methane is 86 times more damaging than CO2 over a 20-year period, and risks triggering a dangerous “feedback loop†for global warming." In the short term the process of 'Fracking' has much higher methane omissions than other forms of fossil fuels. I believe the IPCC were saying that although in the longer term CH4 omissions would drop significantly, the initial rise could trigger a runaway effect. I am sure there is a report somewhere on that?
  11. This wouldn't by any chance be the same IPCC that warns on the process of 'Fracking' and reports that methane is far more potent a greenhouse gas than we had previously realised.? If so then clearly they don't know what they are talking about as our government has already told us ???
  12. Very unlikely although some very bad storms have changed the routes of rivers. Many areas which are flooded are natural flood plains doing their job and the areas will return to predominately dry. We must not forget the role of Transpiration in the water cycle. To test if evaporation is happening find a dry patch of concrete pour a glass of water on it and see how long it takes to dry. In the winter you will note that the ground stays wet for long periods after rainfall whereas in the summer it can be gone in minutes.
  13. Water which cannot be soaked into the ground will find its way to the nearest river. In summer rain water evaporates but very of that happens in the winter. This why major rivers such as the Thames feel the effects 2 or 3 days after major rainfall.
  14. The situation to the west and south of London is the worst I have known it. There is water appearing in areas for which there are no flood warnings in place. The A22 at Kenley just outside Purley is shut due to severe flooding around the water treatment works, they are currently pumping water into a pedestrian underpass. The river Wandle in south London burst its banks this afternoon leading to flooding in Carshalton near Sutton: http://www.suttonguardian.co.uk/news/10999319.PICTURES__Floods_hit_Sutton_as_Environment_Agency_issues_warning/?ref=var_0 Little has been said but most of the capitals water supplies come from the risk areas above Hampton Court lock. This is the situation near Hampton treatment works: http://teddingtontown.co.uk/2014/02/10/river-thames-level-expected-to-rise/#comments The key to flood risk to the West of Teddington is this figure here: http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/riverlevels/riverstation.aspx?StationId=7268&Sensor=U&RegionId=9&AreaId=24&CatchmentId=148
  15. Is it ever going to stop bloody raining? Sitting in my conservatory its like being under a bowl of never ending Rice Crispies, I think I may have permanent damage to my hearing...... MAKE IT STOP SOMEONE PLS!!!
  16. Its the river Dareth which comes from Westerham through Sundridge and feeds into Bradboune Lakes then off through Otford. The main problem has been the A25 which runs alongside the river.
  17. Here are some photos from my area taken earlier today: http://www.sevenoakschronicle.co.uk/pictures/GALLERY-Flooding-Sevenoaks-today/pictures-20458631-detail/pictures.html Lucky I live on the downs over looking the river, but if anyone has a boat for sale let me know
  18. Just back from visiting my parents in Peacehaven on the south coast, the sea is something to behold as wild as I have ever seen it. The wind takes your breath away and the south coast road pretty treacherous. Sad to look at the end of Newhaven pier where the young lad was swept away in similar but in truth not as bad conditions. That was a few hours ago if the storm continues to intensify I do worry about those down there.
  19. I am not a models man but the general pattern over the last few years is for a change to colder conditions a week or so after the xmas period. From what is being written here we appear to be heading for just that scenario?
  20. I am on jnc 5 and we have a light show to our north and hail to our west but it is calm and dry here.
  21. I know Newhaven well and unfortunately the kids play chicken etc on the breakwater there. It is actually closed to the public but a little too easy for get on. You can't see the waves coming and it is a very dangerous place to be.
  22. Here is a video shot by my brother last Saturday over the East Sussex coast near Eastbourne, the objects were not moving in the sky and were seen to hover for around 10mins: http://youtu.be/BWWp0ixqZZI My brother is convinced they are UFO's but I think they maybe Lockheed Martin F-35B jets, but what were they doing there?? I would be interested in your views?
