Currently sunshine, visibility clear with a temp of 8. Beautiful day.

Oh my God. The Daily Express without a picture of Princess Diana on the front page. Life as we know it must be coming to an end.
Instead an Arctic Winter. Excuse me while I vomit.
And people get paid to come out with this unsubstantiated drivel?

I rather like the NOGAPS model. I'm in Scotland on my own from Saturday for a week walking & R&R. The only problem is I won't have access to a computer to be able to track Helene. How frustrating; the one time I get out of the non-weather event capital of the UK.

Haven't been able to take any photos but the eclipse has been very clear. The moon, thanks to the perigee, is much larger and brighter than usual. The surrounding countryside, unpolluted by artificial light, is silver lit with greatly defined black shadows. I've even been able to see rabbit holes and avoid turning an ankle on them as I walk through our fields. Stunningly beautiful.

The notes from my diary for Friday 30th December 2005:
The cold from the previous days continues. It is bitter and the ground frozen solid. Mucking out the stables and turning the horse out this morning was difficult because of numb fingers and toes and the freezing air burnt my nose and chest as I slipped and slid around on the icy ground. It has snowed again all day today. Although beautiful to look at, H & W had to postpone driving to Southampton. This is the second day of cancelled plans this week due to snow. Went to the village shop in the afternoon and found the road very snowy and slippery. The very gentle slope of the road from the church and shop towards our end of the village was difficult to negotiate. Although the temperature has been noticeably colder this December than in the last 4 years, there is still less lying snow in this part of north Suffolk than in previous years - much less precipitation this winter thus far.

Amazing photos of the lightening strikes Iztok. Keep sending the information - its facinating. Also, the scenery is so beautiful I'd love to see more.

After a glorious start to the day it clouded over just in time for the eclipse! However in the last 20 minutes it thinned enough for two brief glimpses, luckily. Interestingly, my horse has been going ballistic out there for the duration of the eclipse. Coincidence?

Can remember sitting in the garden after lunch with cup of tea and a ciggie (now given up that pleasure) watching baby thrushes being fed by their mothers.

Snow showers started at 7am and maintained all day, increasing in intensity. Last one around 6.30pm and settled on cars, grass around house, paddocks (colouring the mud!), roofs of barn, stables etc. Now clear sky and freezing rapidly.

Current temp -1.0. Heavy snow showers all day, now stopped. Clear sky. Cars already iced up.

Very impressive photos everyone and a much needed reminder of the beauty around the country (as I slowly sink into the depressing, hateful winter mud this week). Difficult decision but here goes :-

Frequent and heavy snow showers all day. Settles but then melts in sun. However just had blizzard conditions which settled immediately and show no signs of melting, if only, if only it could keep up like this for a few hours! Temperature and pressure are both dropping rapidly.

The moon's out and its a stunningly beautiful day; able to see for miles across the beautiful Suffolk countryside awash with autumnal colours (wind picking up in excess of 11mph now though).
