Its the very low Dew points and strong winds drying out the snow so it's compacting and evaporating it at same time. That's why there is no slush
Sounds like sublimation to me

Solid ice here this morning. Take care everyone

Amber warning is the kiss of death. We haven't had a flake since it was issued

We have had constant moderate snow since before I got up this morning at 5.30. 8" lying snow, don't know about drifts.

#Generation Snowflake
Get your umbrella and some wellies/walking boots. Not a problem.
God, you sound like my wife!

It's days like this that I regret being a home worker, no 'snow days'
SNAP - gutted

This is silly. I've got an appointment in Guiseley tomorrow - 2 miles down the road and I'm not sure if I can get there!

Personally i'm most interested in the mass of cloud after the base of the trough.
It's either lower cloud and more stable air or a more solid period of snow.
Yes, I see what you mean. Interesting

We will get some within the hour then a dry slot. After that is anyone's guess!
Not sure about that there's another blob in the Humber that could head our way

Don't know if this has copied correctly but there's a line of showers over Hull that should hit North Leeds in the next hour

Another good dumping over night here in Ilkley. Bitterly cold. Says -4 on the thermometer but that wind chill is bitterly cold. Snowing again now. Looks like we could get some nice heavy showers this morning. After that I'm just going to enjoy it. It doesn't look like we'll get a lot more between now and the thaw at the weekend. (maybe a bit more overnight tonight). It's been a loooong time since we've had more than a day (maybe even a few hours) of lying snow.
The difference with today from yesterday is it's a lot colder. I don't think that snow is gonna melt like it did yesterday.
Have a fun day everyone!
Really good here as well. I'm just up the road from you and it's coming down like there's no tomorrow

Just to compound today’s misery the gfs12z stalls the low on Friday over midlands and south Wales’s giving them a huge dumping. You couldn’t make it up if we tried. Looking at shower activity aswell looks poor for inland areas this evening. At least it warms up next week
I don't feel the GFS is a fine enough tool to determine exact positioning over a very short time frame
