It seems like only yesterday we were discussing another non-event winter and before you know it the fun season is fast approaching again.

Now that I’ve come out of my hibernation I look forward to sharing all the inevitable drama in here over the next few months, not sure what my obsession will be this winter . For regulars not sure if I’m quite ready to drop my MJO fixation!

In terms of today’s outputs the first signs of our nemesis setting up in its favourite place over Greenland but it could stay far enough to the west to allow some build of pressure to the east ne.

Some brief interest develops around day 6 with a toppling ridge , the UKMO looks the coldest set up as it holds back the PV, the ECM pulls in a ne as the ridge topples.

That timeframe could get a bit more interesting if a stronger ridge develops to the west nw but it’s almost certain that it will topple, so just depends how far north this can get into Scandi.

Anyway nice to be back , fingers crossed that this winter can deliver something interesting.

Welcome back Nick.  I'm similar, I wait for the hour to go back then I know the winter season is starting :D.  Looking forward to another roller coaster of a season.

Anyway it's too high for the 30cm ruler, about 45cm if not more. I wish that was the level snow everywhere but it's definitely not. The wind keeps whipping up the snow so in the thinnest parts it's only 16-18cm, in the deepest parts (not drifts) it's 30cm+.

Current temp: -2.c, wind chill: -9.4c

Really good pics there Cheese Rice. I was joking last night when I asked Harsh Climate if we could get 30cm but you've outdone that!W have done well as well but can't post piccies as the ones my wife sent me are too large to uploadsad.png

  3. Suprised at that HC. 5" level snow here in Bingley n been out with me tape measure at the biggest drift in garden with 18" against shed lol.Just seen bbc graphics which now suggest light snow till at least 3pm.Best snow of winter by far and summer time begins next weekend lol.

You both want to get just up the road to where I live - only a couple of miles and we have at least 8" old + new snow with drifts of 1 - 2' near the village and 2-3' outside. Bleeding typical that I'm not there. I'm my own snow shield, I'm in Canada at the moment and although there's been snow it's only been fractions of an inch cray.gif

  4. Yep my thoughts are exactly the same as earlier, main band should arrive at around 6pm, but it's looking like we are seeing something develop ahead of this so before then there may be some slight accumulations before the big shabang.

    I'm expecting totals of:

South Yorkshire - low ground 7-15cm

West Yorkshire - low ground 5-15cm

Rest of yorkshire 0-7cm, the less further east you go.

High ground over the pennines a further 15-30cm.

So as you're a bit lower than we are, does this mean the extra 15 - 30 cm biggrin.png
