  1. Well I was out in the little bit of sunshine that the North east saw today and you could actually feel the warmth on your face not much but it was definitely there and with it not getting dark until after 5pm spring was very discernable. It goes to show that weather wise there is life after cold and snow and I for one now cant wait for spring and summer and plenty of beer garden weather. Bring it on!!!
  2. That is quite an impressive map and shows just how much this cold spell has been a southeastern phenomenon. The south east has really got in on the act there unlike my region which is tropical by comparison
  3. Hello guys in the south east i must say i didnt realise the extent of the cold and snow you guys were having down there!! A week of lying snow and minus 10 sound like heaven when compared to the snow free and tropical northeast, lol ENJOY!!!
  4. Both of them sound pretty good to me but they are not being shown in the reasonable time frame all FI i think. Please dont say that current teleconnections favour one of these set ups as I have had about enough of that word for the time being
  5. I agree it has felt very dark and bleak the last few days with not much crisp winters sun but hardly any snow either. At least feb has felt a bit more wintry than dec or jan and for that i suppose we should be thankful. Personally i am now in full spring mode and have accepted we will get no more snow this winter im a bit fed up of chasing the models for it to be honest. We were close this year to something special and rare this being a true easterly blast with upper temps of -15 or lower lol literally france about a hundred miles away got these temps we were so close. God i hope we get a good summer this year, in fact what i want this year is proper defined seasons none of this 21oc in April B******S can we please have 21oC in june and not October, Lol.
  6. I just want to say that this has been a fantastic thread that I have read daily especially through the dark days of Dec and Jan and I imagine it has kept a lot of people's spirits up as well. I do expect this thread to become a lot quieter now as we head into mid feb. As i mentioned in another thread all it would have took is for the siberian high to be 300-400 miles further west and bingo. In terms of the NH as a whole that is a tiny distance, but alas it was not meant to be and the really deep cold stayed just over the channel. Oh well better luck next year
  7. Well the north east snow shield is back in full working order after malfunctioning over the last couple of years. I t really has been poor and i thought winter would have a sting in its tail based on last nites UKMO, shows how wrong i was we will be lucky with an 18hr toppler at this rate. The MO thread is filled with the usual predictions of how things look good in ten days time but I'm not really buying that anymore. Looks like the south east contingent have done reasonably well and good luck to them, what makes it all the more frustrating is that if the siberian high had got 400 miles further north west then bingo and the UK would have had a truly legendary couple of weeks but as it stands very nondescript really.
  8. One more thing to add, I have just noticed that our regional thread is by far the shortest in the entire UK apart from that is......scotland that has faired equally as bad in the last few days. Poor!! Hi Nick thanks for the reply and fingers crossed we get our much needed snow
  9. well i must say another poor day for us north easterners, a little bit of freezing rain this morning and then nowt but drizzle although i suppose we were never forecast to get snow from this anyway so its not like we were cheated i suppose. I hope this northerly comes off and then the noreaster for afters as i dearly want some good positive radar watching with beefy showers coming in off the north sea and then some nice walks in the park or along the river, Durham comes alive with a bit of snow.
  10. I wasnt aware that we were forecast snow in durham, i will be surprised to see it
  11. Yeah alza lets hope for a proper sustained greenie high as it was this pattern that brought the north east its great winters of the last two years!! I preferred 09-10 winter to 10-11 as we got some decent cold in January 09-10 and cold in Jan had been almost non existant in the winters prior to 2008. I just hope the height rises to the NW dont fizzle out or topple because if they do then i believe its over until next winter. IMO this is our last opportunity for prolonged deep winter cold and snow
  12. Did anyone catch the ITV weather tonite? What a load of rubbish it said our region was going to be down as low as -15 with the forecaster droning on about the coldest night of the year so far!! LOL we were even colder than the scottish highlands and a good 6-7C colder than surrounding regions
