Looking on the radar, it appears that there is a shower heading directly for the Leeds area - currently just to the north of York.
They have been dieing away above me, but I guess some will push further inland.

Well after this morning almost blizzard type conditions this afternoon has been a bit of a let down. The snow generally has stood firm to the 2 degree temperature we have had here, only really melting where the sun has got to work, mainly roofs. Hope to get a bit more tonight and tomorrow, just hope we get below freezing again this evening, its been quite a challenge at times. Could someone explain to me how during the december cold spell we managed ice days here, but now we are hovering around 2/3 degrees. Would love to know why.
North Sea Modification under different flows and wind speeds.

Catching the showers here, quite heavy at times. Cold at -3 .
-
-12 near here at Linton on Ouse. Further snow showers pushing inland over the next few hours.
-
Very cold this evening -6.4 already and dropping fast !
-
going to be very cold tonight. Already -5.1 here in the Vale of York.
-
Heavy showers from the east dieing away for now, forecast to pick up again tonight.

Looks like I'm going to hit that gap and It will be over soon; However, with more snow forecast for tomorrow, it could become quite difficult to get about around here.
Just got another inch or so in 25min and still very heavy.
-
Showers now reaching here. New covering on cleared roads now. Moderate to heavy and large flakes at the moment.

Interesting stuff seems to be happening in the North Sea. That first band thats about to hit Harrogate looks like the start of a streamer, guess some places in land are going to have a fun night as well, and not just the east coast.
Snow streamers have been hitting here for a few hours now and more to come.

The showers from the north sea producing moderate snow.. new covering where I just cleared a path ! Some very large flakes at times.
-
Showers now coming into North Yorkshire from the North Sea. Snowing here from showers. Getting further in land than forecast.
-
The band of snow has cleared here and left about 3-4 inches. Extremely slow traffic, took 2 hours to drive to York when it normally takes 15min -> 20min. Nice result

Morning everyone, Been snowing here, on and off, since around 5.30 - nothing substantial here, but some places to the west
of me have been badly affected.
Taking a look out of the window, I'd estimate that there's been around 2cms of fresh snow - so far
We have a few inches here at least and still falling. Extremely pleased.
Its going to get very server south of our region.
-
well looks like there are some beefy showers just 20 miles northwest of me here. none of the current charts or forecasts showed it this far south of lincs so early. is it progressing quicker than expected?
These are showers from the Irish sea, they where not expected to push so far inland at this stage.

The band is forecast to be week in places before it strengthens south of our region, or maybe in the south west of our region. North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire would not get that much snow if the forecast is right. Better chance for West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire. But I have a feeling there will be a few more changes before the night is over.

Thats why i hardly ever watch the forecasts, as they are very inconsistant
They change because he keeps an eye on the latest charts. He often forecasts late chances in forecasts before other forecasters. I would say hes more up to date.. but still it can still change.

Paul Hudson saying only light snow (1cm or so be for it clears) for North Yorkshire tomorrow morning. This backs up the bbc forecast and latest charts with the heavy stuff in the west until it reaches the midlands.
There seems to be a dry sector in central Scotland, maybe thats the area heading to North Yorkshire.
-
it should still stick though shouldn't it ?
If i'm right, the closer the dews and temp, the better the saturation. So they could be some fairly heavy falls. Also if history serves me right, you get better falls when its big fat wettish flakes. As long as the surface is at 0c or below (which it will be)
Lewis
It would stick and would be deeper compared to dry snow. Between York and Malton about 5 inches fell in 1 hour new years day, the impressive depth was partly due to the massive flakes that where falling.

I wouldnt worry about warm sectors tonight. Bear in mind this front is coming up against bitterly cold air entrenched at the surface, which will be further enhanced by clear skies for some time before the cloud arrives. Temperatures at 850hPa level look pretty favourable too, never rising above -6C. The thickness at 850-1000hPa level is a more important pointer (essentially the distance between the ground and 850hPa level), which over this area rises to a maximum of 1290-1292 (under 1290 is preferred and indicates 70% chance of snow I believe) so also pretty good. The zero degree level is also around 100-200 metres or so, which pretty much guarantees no melting will occur on the trip to the ground.
It suggests to me big wet snow flakes rather than finer dry snow. Rain away from the beach would be very unlikely.
