Awesome!!! I'm glad I stayed up now. The snow is the heaviest it's been so far - it really is coming
thick and fast.
And allot more to come.. the streams of showers have moved slightly meaning a direct hit for us.
I have to be in York @ 6.30am umm, hope the snow plow pays a visit in the morning. The gritter has failed !

Sounds fantastic I can't decide whether to go to bed or wait a bit longer.
Since it's not very often we get to do this, it's a hard decision.
we have gone from 1/2 inch to about 2 inches in 15min and still going!

OMG we have just had the worst snow I have ever seen! 2cm in about 5min !
-
I'm using meteox.co.uk as it updates quicker
-
Blizzard conditions here once again. The salt on the road has no chance!

Don't want to sound greedy, but I wish these showers were longer lasting. When a shower does arrive, the snow lays very
quicky.
I can't complain though
Same here, but very nice covering even from the short showers... I little further north must be really bad now, shower feeding through the same locations for a few hours!
-
Nice covering here now (Vale of York, 8 miles North of York). Gritted roads where starting to cover in the heavy stuff and had to drive very slowly even on main roads.
-
Temperatures have just noise dived here and further north through the vale of york 3C to 0C in an hour!. Most of the snow will now settle, light covering on some surfaces already.
Ice is going to be a big issue!

I am indeed
It's beginning to look very Christmas card like here
The guy from nextdoor has been chopping down xmas trees
with his chain saw. He's permitted to,though, since
he's one of the estate gardeners
It's actually getting heavier as I type
Just starting again here hopefully some of these showers will band together to give more prolonged spells of snow.
Routes on the north york moors must be starting to get bad! no reports of problems so far though.

Are you near york or closer to the pennines?
He is in the Howardian hills between York and Malton
-
Light patchy covering on the grass now, but the snow has stopped, plenty more to come. Forecasters where expecting an increase in shower activity from 6pm but picking up nicely already
-
Snowing heavy and very windy here ! visibility very low.
-
Well so far today I'd say the Dales has had the heaviest most prolonged snow, a shame no-one's posting from that area as I'd be intrigued to know what it's like around Malham and up towards Hawes at the moment
-
Snow showers due to pick up from 6pm and temps widely at or below freezing so looking good for a covering at least.
-
Temperature dropping here again, currently 1.8C, we just need the heavy showers further south. All showers have been of snow so far, so the only issue is the amount precipitation. North East parts of the Dales and county Durham seem to be getting most of the convention.
-
Heavy snow showers here, large wet flakes. Was also snowing in York and settled briefly in Haxby.
-
Widespread 5 - 10cm for the east of our region on Thursday looking less likely now, but still allot of potential with those charts. Hopefully many of use will be nicely surprised. BBC & Met going for heavy to moderate snow south of our region with the latest gfs supporting this, however that does not rule out convention showers further north. We will have to wait and see.

Could there be Lake Effect Snow generated by the North Sea in this Easterly?
Yes there will be convection showers with an easterly and north easterly over a warm north sea.
-
Then consider this, Here in barnsley I'm 113 miles from the coast and in the last 48 hours we've had 17mm of rain here dispite paul hudson constantly saying patchy light rain and dreary drizzle!
And the current ppn doesn't need to move 150 miles north, It's aligned with us currently.
I think this is the problem and the reason BBC now show no heavy snow for North Yorks for Thursday:
Heavy snow shown further south.. but it could easily end up further north or south.
The band of showers slowly sinks south after arriving south of our region from the west, leaving Yorkshire with less snow then previous runs.. In reality we will not know until the event for exact positioning.

Will West Yorkshire miss out on the snow?
Saturday afternoon into Sunday Morning should be good for everyone based on that run as the northerly sets in.
