I live in the highest part of Gateshead near the QE hospital and it has been lying here all day but I went down to the Team Valley at 1pm and there was no lying snow there.

Just shows what a difference even a small amount of height can make.

Here is a picture of my location now.

I was up there the other day to see the snow, its just under 500 feet asl around there

    Morning all!

I've been a lurker on here for years, and eventually got around to registering back in 2018 - still didn’t post anything

Anyway, back to today - I’ve been up since 5am (went to bed at 1am) and I’ve been watching the radar since with fingers crossed something would start heading over, but all seems to disappear before it gets here

Hoping for a much better day than the dross that was yesterday. Walking the dogs at 10pm last night wasn’t a pleasant experience!!

Welcome to the sometimes crazy world of these forums mate.

I feel like a giddy excited schoolgirl

Taking advice from here I’m ignoring the weather apps, trying to make sense of the radars and getting ready to watch the lamppost

I find  the Netweather radar quite good.

  4. GEM and ECM are definitely ones to watch with regards to a Scandi high forming into next weekend. If correct there is some extreme cold waiting out east if the alignment of that high is in our favour.Long way to go yet though.

Onto this weekend, anyone else a bit disappointed about the lack of shower activity being forecast for Sunday up here?Monday is looking better though.

Ha glad it’s not just me. Considering swapping bedrooms with my 6 year old as his window has a direct view of the lamppost.

Just going to try and ignore the MO app, and try and figure the radars out over the next few days. Quite new to all this (not the love for weather), so steep learning curve!

    Hope you get plenty.

I'm confident we will see plenty come Sunday and Monday.

I have learnt so much from the forums in here, there some really knowledgeable people posting.

Enjoy the lampost watching a fingers crossed for a good covering for us all.

So unreliable, I'm not that far from you and mine is snow throughout

    The difference is ridiculous.

I know altitude is a big help but that suggests that the cloud off the North Sea will pass over here dropping nowt before dumping it all over Consett.

Edit Things are really ramping up now on the MO app for Jarrow.

Yep, MO forecast pretty much the same for me about 3 miles from you. I’m trying to take on board what was said on here about disregarding it, but it is a bit disheartening.
especially when we always see rain & sleep near the coast.

Is it normal to spend all week getting excited, then as it gets closer start to panic it’s going to go wrong feel about 11 rather than 31 today!

Ha ha,nothing wrong with that at all,I've been obsessed with snow for as long as I can remember and that's getting on for 50 years now.

I think it will be a case of radar watching from tomorrow PM onwards as things start to turn colder and then over to lampost watching as night falls....exciting times even for a 50 odd year old lol!
