  1. Had a brief snow shower here too even though precip is showing as rain on the NW radar. I think Croydon council will feel a bit silly now, the barely 1 mm covering we had is not going to be troubling anyone me thinks this morning. The radar shows clear skies behind us and precip heading North so gonna be a quiet morning. This afternoon, we will have to wait and see how that pans out.
  2. Not Yamkins optimism in this case but Croydon council reacting too early to a marginal situation. They sent out a general email this afternoon based on the METO forecast warning of severe weather tonight. We've had reports of schools already saying they are going to be closed tomorrow and now it looks like that will be pointless. I guess in Croydon's defence they were caught short on Monday and have had a lot of complaints about how long it has taken to clear the roads and paths, most roads are now clear (except side roads) yet nearly all paths are still covered in ice. It's a case of your damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to reacting to adverse weather.
  3. Man this is madness. My local council has emailed everyone saying that there is a chance of severe weather and already schools are saying they are closed tomorrow before anything has happened. Much of the snow has gone from around here now and it's currently raining and as far as I can tell we are (South London) on the wrong side for snow tonight and maybe lucky to get some tomorrow afternoon. I'd love to get some more snow but all the evidnece appears to suggest it's not gonna happen until at least late tomorrow afternoon / evening.
  4. I have access to the NW radar and that is what I am using currently. When I got home around 8 hours ago percipitation around the SE was showing as snow, a couple of hours later and it was showing as sleet with snow further NW and now it's rain in the SE corner, sleet across IOW, London, South Essex and snow to the NW of that. The rain has slowly been moving NW from te SE over the last few hours even as the evening has worn on which would mean temperatures high up must be on the rise and these higher temperatures moving NW. I don't ant the snow to go either but I think we have to be realists here and accept the fact that it's not looking good for us at this point. Maybe when it all heads SE again we might be in luck but I fear the worst.
  5. Unfortunatly that is currently rain in France, the warmer air is moving North and even now percipitation over London is showing as sleet and the rain is on the South coast moving slowly North. I have had 2 great days with the kids in the snow but am expecting 3 days of rain now and all bar the odd giant snowman all the snow to be gone by the weekend. What the future holds though is up to mother nature. Update, rain currently showing as falling at Gatwick.
  6. If it does rain Thursday is that likely to thaw all the laying snow in the SE? I was one of the areas that had a foot Sunday / Monday and although a slow that has set in, the parks are still great for sledging and other snowy related things.
  7. I think there are 3 issues, 1) The main event started earlier, around lunchtime instead of late afternoon. 2) The main event didn't give as much precipitation as espected. 3) The mild sector had a bigger effect on the midlands then forecast. Also I believe as the cold air swings round the low that there is a chance of more snow coming to the South tonight but not sure how much or where.
  8. Better bring a big one, there is a lot of snow around here
  9. I guess if we live for another 100 years, the planet gets warmer and we have snow events in 30 years and then again in 50 years then we can all come back here and say he was right. Well, maybe bookmark this thread and ask our grand kids to do it.
  10. It was forecast yesterday to snow today and tonight but I think it hasn't come to light and nobody has told the papers. Looks like we will be hanging on to the snow here tonight by the skin of our teeth before it dies out and then freezes the roads over. Not sure about the work / school situation tomorrow, may go to work if the roads are cleared but keep the kids off another day as they somehow wrangled a sleepover tonight.
  11. So does that mean a) it won't turn to sleet in London and there will be no more snow tonight here?
  12. Not far from that here, was about 10" this morning but it has been snowing all day.
  13. I can see the sleet marching West on the NW radar, do we know how far it's going to go and this discussion about it pivoting round and colder air coming back, how is that going to work?
  14. Is what we are getting now the main band initially forecast for 3pm - 12 tonight and is that still the case?
  15. Seeing as there are no serious entries....
  16. I'm directly to the West of you so am expecting what you have shortly, yay.
  17. Similar scenes in my garden....well untill the kids mullered it
  18. Congratulations Paul, it's been a long wait! Just measured various parts of my garden and it's between 20-25 cm / 8-10 Inches. It hasn't really stopped snowing since 6pm yesterday and it's about to get heavier as I type. I have waited for this though since the 80's so I don't feel bad whatsoever telling people about it
  19. Couple more pics from me, something I haven't seen since the 80's......ICICLES!
  20. Is it a Croydon school and if so any idea where I can find out about mine?
  21. All, that is ALL London buses have been cancelled. http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/r...es/default.html
