  1. We have a Met Office warning for snow and ice !

Brisk northerly winds will drive showers well inland across Northern Ireland on Monday, with these initially falling as snow over higher ground and sleet and rain elsewhere. However, as increasingly cold air spreads south, showers will fall as snow to all levels by late morning. Up to 5 cm of snow is likely over higher routes such as the Coleraine Mountain road and Glenshane Pass. At lower levels, a few cms can be expected, with northern counties expected to see the more frequent showers. Ice will be an additional hazard for all areas into the evening.

  2. Astonishing weather today - just incredible.

I am about half a mile from the sea here in Bangor and recorded my highest temperature ever today at 28.6C - so unusual for this location.

The sea breeze kicked in at 3.30pm and sent the temp right back to 21 degrees by 4.30pm.

Amazing to think that the highest temperature ever recorded here was just a few miles away!

If you watch the video Ronan posted above you can see why forecasting this week end is a nightmare. A difference of 100 or so miles east or west has a massive bearing on what we get at ground level. It could stay all snow which fizzles out - best case scenario or it could be 10 degrees and soaking - worst case scenario - and everything in between.

I know! That's why I was so surprised with the rain forecast for Saturday and no mention of the snow possibility !

UK met office have issued a yellow warning for all of NI on Saturday, looks pretty decent too, although they mention snow turning to rain in afternoon.

That is at complete odds with their forecast text for NI for the weekend! It doesn't even mention hill snow :

    Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Dry and bright on Friday, cold southeasterly wind. Windy on Saturday with a little showery rain. Persistent rain on Saturday night then mostly dry on Sunday.

It's been a crap Winter all round.

Compare and contrast this thread to the Scottish one.

I still have a hope of snow on Saturday before a quick melt.

Yeah it's definitely been rubbish for us model watchers as there has been so much promise (much more than a normal winter) but very little delivery!
For folk who don't study the weather models, it's probably been a fairly standard winter !
On the plus side, this week has been great for getting out of the house for walks - last week was dire with all that rain.

  6. So it begins .... first weather warning out for the eastern half of Norn Iron on Monday:

With the more persistent snow from Sunday in the south-east pulling away, the UK is expected to be affected by a cold, easterly wind, with snow showers. These will develop over sea areas and be blown inland, with some places possibly seeing quite frequent although mainly light showers. Some places however will miss these altogether. Where they do occur, 1-4 cm of additional snow is most probable for the majority of areas, perhaps 3-7 cm over higher ground exposed to the east.
