  1. OMG, Craigantlet is blasted lol.......damn, wish I still had the Motorbike, I'd be heading up for a nosey! grrr!

I couldn't resist - getting a bit annoyed not seeing any snow here!! There must be at least 6 inches of snow up there - to be honest, I don't think the road would be safe for motorbikes anyway :lazy:

  2. Just spent threee hours in the car for a return journey of 40 mins.

Balycalre was as clean as a whistle this morning and half a mile away was white.

Belfast was an absolute nightmare and i turned to come home. Driving a rear wheel drive car in snow is not fun at all.

Fairly heavy snow in Ballyclare now and it is starting to get a grip on the ground. Grass is already white.

Radar shows showers continuing on my direction. Lets hope so.

Belfast got it good. Loads of schools closed.

Got some good photo's on my phone so will upload later when I get the chance.

Fantastic - still no lying snow in Bangor, but it is trying to fall now!

Got some pics up in the Craigantlet hills - a different world up there :) :

  3. Just read the wrning on the met office site.

They really have left things to the wire here. Radar shows this as snow but warning is for sleet as well. Lets sit back and prepare for some lamp post watching!

    .........Again.........!

You are in a good position there - unfortunately the warning doesn't cover County Down :(

  4. Weather warning from the UKMO:

    Northern Ireland:

    Co Antrim

    Co Derry

    Co Tyrone

    Heavy Snow 1700 Wed 4 1000 Thu 5

Sleet and snow will continue to edge south this evening and will persist overnight. Accumulations of 2 to 5cm are expected with up to 10cm possible, mainly on higher ground.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to Traffic Watch (NI) for further advice on road conditions.

Issued at: 1509 Wed 4 Feb

  5. Yes - the amount of snow has definitely been downgraded in the latest forecasts - Cecilia on the local BBC1 forecast said there would be snow tonight - as much as 5-10cm, but mainly in the Northern half of the province. The front looked like it fragmented as it moved down from the North Coast with no precipitation shown for here at all

She also said there would be more snow at the weekend - the 5 day graphic showed heavy snow on Sunday with a temperature of 6C

  6. The 6z GFS intensified the precipitation though? A guess another let down on the cards then.

Maybe get some frontal snow from the atlantic at the weekend.

I just don't know any more! It's going to be a case of waiting to see what actually falls from the sky when the time comes.....

I'll be keeping a close eye on the forecasts at 1.30 anyway just to see what their latest thoughts are

  7. Still bemused by the lack of warning for snow in NI for tonight. The west coast of scotland has a warning out yet we seem to be getting just as much snow, if not more than them.

Indeed, it looks a very snowy affair for NI throughout the next 6/7 days.

I was thinking the same thing until I saw the graphics on the BBC news channel at 11.55 which showed the front fragmenting before it reached us with just some patchy snow on the North Coast - I hope this is just a snag with the graphics rather than anything else, but it would tie in with the lack of warnings

This whole week has kind of dented my confidence in seeing anything wintry over the next few days I must say - the setups have always looked terrific but nothing has yet materialized, at least not here in Bangor anyway.

Still, I am going to keep optimistic :cray:

  8. wow that is good......though they do go a bit extremem with snow at a max of 6c on Sunday lol, unless of course its a morning event with milder air moving in during afternoon. Also I don't see tonights event on there.....it will arrive here before 6am as they state but probably around Midnight or just before.

Yes it'll definitely be before 6am - the local weather on BBC1 this morning said it might start off as rain before turning to sleet and snow.

  9. I wouldn't worry, warnings from them lot will only appear once it starts to snow or during the day. My current temp is 1.4c, its still early though, I'd probably be looking at a max of around 3c today before dropping to around 1.5c> during dusk.

Hey Watcher - just for a bit of fun, enjoy looking at these 5-day forecasts for Bangor - they will change during today but just at the moment, it's one of the snowiest outlooks I can remember for here :) :

  10. Hi there.another Bangor folk........

Certainly keeping an eye on that band pushing south wednesday Night, as its moving down from the North there will be less of an impact from our coastal waters, it should be more marginal for Northern coasts than Eastern.

Yes - its great to have someone from the same town on here

Something else that looks rather promising is the latest forecast from the Irish Met Office, just updated at lunchtime:

    Ulster

    03 February 2009- updated at 13:00

    Today

Very cold and windy with heavy wintry showers.

    Tonight

Very cold tonight with icy patches and heavy wintry showers.

    Tomorrow

Rather cold with outbreaks of rain turning to snow later.

  11. Well I got nought last night, wet snow and sleet meaning the ground is saturated today...although in saying that its now colder than it was last night and certainly some convection going up as we head to mid day. If you look at the radar the heavy snow showers over Wales are turning and heading towards the East coast of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Maybe something in the offing late afternoon, in fact cloud here is getting darker and cumulonimbus like with some anvils sprouting, maybe an out of the blue streamer setting up for Northern and Southern areas of the East coast.

Yes its certainly a lot cloudier at the moment but I can't see any precipitation at all - the radar doesn't look too promising either.

We may see some snow tonight according to Cecilia on the local BBC1 forecast and they are keeping an eye on the front moving South on Wednesday night - possibility of heavy snow from that

  12. Cold air has seemingly come back in with snow reports coming back.

Another few inches reported in Blanch.

Meanwhile by the sea, its wet and sunny!

Yes - the dew point has fallen markedly here in the last hour from +1.8C to -3.5C at the moment (still falling)

Annoyingly, the fall has also come at the same time as the clearance so just as the rain was stopping here, it turned to snow for a few minutes

  13. Hello - I dont post here often but I feel my posts are going to get lost over on TWO,so in case anyone has missed this - Met Eirann have a new warning out - looks good for all of Ireland :) :
