  1. This just kind of happened really... I didn't plan it from the start but once it started looking robot like I decided to go with it. I then decided to explode some gas filled ballons (don't try this unless you know what you're doing) near/on it for extra effect!
  2. I don't like to winge but yet again I'm finding myself watching significant snow miss Norwich. That said I'm not totally sure why I want any more - Went sledging today and in places the snow was too deep anyway!
  3. Finally about to get a shower here in Norwich by the looks of radar. Been watching them skim East and West all day which was getting seriously fruastrating! Nice thread too by the way!
  4. It's amazing what difference a few miles makes. In Trowse (3 miles South of Norwich city centre) we have 2 - 3cm easily.
  5. Yes snowing nicely in Norwich again now. Might get a few showers coming through if the radar is anything to go by.
  6. Bit of convective rain and a strike in Norwich earlier. I'd literally just gone outside for a meeting with my boss when there was a flash which I wasn't really expecting. He's seriously scared of lightning so had a small freak out before legging it inside.
  7. Is anyone aware of any mobile phones that can handle NW radar in full? It's phone upgrade time and it would be handy to get something that I can view the radar on and allow some animation etc. Currently on my phone I'm limited to just viewing the latest radar grab which isn't massively useful when chasing... Thanks!
  8. Thanks for the comments guys! I have actually 'semi-waterproofed' the camera by sealing a large plastic bag to a lense hood. When the rain starts I can pop the hood on in seconds and the bag fits nicely over the camera. (I made it with copious amounts of duct tape and hot glue so it's properly waterproof!) I then sit in the car in the dry and take shots using a remote shutter release. It's a weird feeling leaving a few hundred £s worth of camera out in the rain though! Unfortunately it doesn't solve the issue of rain on the lense though which is what usually ultimately ruins the evenings fun!
  9. This was probably the most electrically active night time storm I've seen in a few years but unfortunately there was just a bit too much rain to get any really decent shots. I got the 2 below before the rain arrived and then spent the next 3 hours driving about getting very wet trying to find a gap in the rain without any luck. I did meet Greenday and his brother though which was cool. Always nice to see other chasers out and about!
  10. I think it's the shift from 20mm to 10mm that's made it look like it was moving away. It was actually going right to left reasonably slowly in the photos. It does look a bit like inflow but it was actually a separate updraft which grew on the flank of the main storm. It did develop a bit of a precip core but never got that heavy.
  11. This was the storm that the funnel cloud formed on the flank of. Greenday got some cool footage of this same storm from a bit closer.... http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?showtopic=55857
  12. Great footage! That last vid is quality. Always nice seeing places you know on video too! I'm just processing my pics of that storm which I'll get posted up ASAP. At the time I remember thinking the gust front on it must be pretty impressive, never thought I'd actually get to see it though!
  13. Nice video, that gust front looked familiar!
  14. Thanks for the comments guys! The main road (under the road I'm on) that you can see on pic 1 is the A47. Go about 1-2 miles along at and turn left you're on the A140 heading south. The was funnel is about 4-5 miles to the East of it I'd say, so notch up another one for the Tornado Alley road! I've got some alright looking shots of the actual storm I was watching before the funnel dropped which I'll post up later.
  15. Not the best pics as it was moving away from me and there was no way I was going to catch up. Also didn't have anything but 10-20mm lense with me so didn't have a lot of zoom to play with! I'm pleased though, first funnel pic in 3/4 years of weather watching/chasing!
  16. After sitting at work all day getting annoyed at watching storms go by I finally got a chance to go after one when this nice gust front turned up just as I was leaving!
  17. Yes radar's wrong here too; EA cell is about 20 miles further North than radar suggests.
  18. Torrential rain and frequent thunder here in South Norfolk right now. Cell is easy to see on NW radar!
  19. Seriously impressive shots! Annoyed I decided to chase further north in Norfolk, Cambs was the place to be on Monday. Good appearance on Look East too!
  20. Here's a selection of my photos from chasing yesterday!
  21. Couple of showers have kicked off just North of Norwich. The convection is pretty solid and actually surprisingly strong by the looks of it!
  22. Thanks for the comments guys. Camera used was a Canon EOS 400D with Sigma 10 - 20mm lense. Basic RAW editing was done with Canon software and final shots were finished in Photoshop. Apart from bringing out extra foreground detail with a brighter partially masked layer, enhancements were pretty minimal. Just an awsome sky!
