Currently under a graupel shower in hull. At least it’s something frozen.

Im not a sports fan as you'll tell from the following analogy but I imagine it's as addictive as following a team, hoping every year they will win whatever cup, reminiscing about a time years ago when they did, only to be disappointed yet again. Still will alway come back the next year to do it again. Well in a sense i'm hoping I've increased by chances of winning, just moved back from southwest London to Hull after 6 years. Some great memories of the snow last time I was here. That said we did have one spell of powder snow a few back and it was bone dry up here. Hopefully Hull can still do well out a decent northerly.

Anyone else feeling a little drained by this apparent cold spell? Not talking physiological effects of the cold itself but from the long drawn out waiting for something to happen.

Partly because the air doesn’t originate from Siberia as is usual for a proper BFTE. I heard theirs a warm layer aloft too, metoffice site mentioned freezing rain earlier which backs that up too.

What radar are you using? Precip type is based on model data rather than the radar itself. That’s why the other day all the stuff over West Yorks showed as rain/sleet when it was snowing.

Great autumnal convective skies today. Was woken up at 7am by a loud crack of thunder too. Well I wasn't expecting much from yesterday and I was all alone in the office at 5pm last night when i heard the all mightiest shot gun style thunder. Very heavy rain and interesting fast moving cloud bases. I did read a couple of reports of others hearing very loud shotgun thunder. I know the loudness of thunder is related to the distance of the strike obviously, but I wonder whether these storms has a prevalence of positive lightning strikes?

Compare this to blitzortung and take note of how a supercell doesn't have to contain impressive lightning rates.

What are the thoughts on today? Looking very similar to yesterday at the moment so I won’t be holding my breath for any storms.

Storm exploded In 10 mins towards Epsom. Can’t believe how muggy it feels again

In my head i has it that the stuff in the channel was to move up to the south coast and die out. Now I realise that it was always due to just stall. There’s no flow to bring anything into south east England

May be an outflow boundary. They do shoe up on radar. Don’t always mean further development. Edit: Kind of weird how the feature hogs back about 20 miles on the next radar frame. Probably some weird radar anomaly

Thought I would come here since were being moaned at in the storm thread. Was right on the edge of the storms west of London as they went up. Constant rolling thunder like I’ve never really heard before. Not much in the way of visible lightning. Cant see the storm over France reaching us intact. I’m not a fan of storms that are already that mature the other side of the channel. The models don’t support it either. Our best chance may be something popping up ahead of it however it seems the anvil shield is well ahead of them which may suppress anything

The west London storm went mad for a while. Interestingly non of it picked up by blitzortung

Forget radar. These cells go up well before any rainfall shows.

Wow the storms to the north west of London look amazing. Even saw managed to see a flash from here. Small radar return near Brighton right now. Fingers crossed

Looks like a patch of agitated cumulus will be moving onto the south coast soon. Wonder if anything will come of it.

Just got the odd towering cumulus bubbling up now and again here. Frustrating because you can see them growing in real time but they just flatten to nothing
