  1. No, I'm also trying an all nighter for this but im not letting my hopes get to much. As enticing as meto radar is becoming from the SE, i keep refering back to the netweather strikestar and it soooo looks like its moving off SW to my location.

I hear light rain and thats the most activity its been tonight

Biddie, which radar are you using?

was just checking those reds on the meteox rader seem to be moving further to the east wheras bout an hour ago seemed to be traking more north east

  2. Yes Disco-Brarry... Noise can indeed hurt you if the frequency is high enough, it can burst your ear drums... very painful i should imagine.

Noises like thunder and loud jets, despite them being very loud, they are not loud enough to do you any damage. Take the noise levels in the average factory, i have worked in several, and before the rules about health and safety came into force, i used to come home with my ears ringing due to the long time i spent in a noisy enviroment. Now my hearing is not as good as it used to be because of it.

I agree Biddie... i plan my whole life around thunder, I look forward to late autumn/winter because there is less chance of a storm (though i have known it to thunder on xmas day). Each spring i start wondering what the summer has in store for me, i do that every year. I have noticed that not just in summer but all year round now i find myself thinking about thunder, weather its going to happen or not, can i risk going out for a drink? but what if there comes a storm?

I cannot plan anything a few days ahead, just incase there is a storm. I planned to join the army at 18... i thought that by then i would be rid of my phobia but sadly no, cant have a soldier on the battlefield suddenly stop and put his fingers in his ears because of a sudden storm.

sadly i have spent most of my life very similar to you 42 now im i am embarrased to admit- but if it helps there are so many organisations that can help now although thunderstorm phobia notoriously hard to deal with but with modern tecniques and medication you can be de sentisied somewhat. i personally am terrified of lightning yet fasinated and very scared of being either outside or on my own during them I wish you luck

  3. what has surprised me on this thread, bearing in mind most of us are weather nuts of one sort or another, is the number that are shall we say 'not happy' either when storms are forecast or are near to them.

Nothing to be ashamed off, we all have phobias about one thing or another, mine is heights, well exposure on hikes into hills and mountains.

When I was forecasting at Manchester WC we had a number of what we rather unkindly called 'our thunder ladies' who were all terrified of thunder, some even hearing the word on radio or TV. One or two became quite well known, oddly enough one from near to where I live now, Thorne near Doncaster. All of us always spent time trying to reassure them and what was a sensible behavior to adopt if they actually got a storm.

To those of you who delight in being out in storms, taking photographs or whatever, do remember that OUTSIDE, in the open, and near trees or other objects sticking up above the general landscape, the lightning will look for an easy way to get to the ground.

To those of you afraid of it, thunder cannot hurt you apart from you not liking the noise, lightning can, if you do silly things, like standing near windows, metal, telephones or electrical appliances. If you have time disconnect your tv/radio, telephone, and of course the aerial from your tv. Sit away from a window and your chances of being hurt by lightning are so remote as to be able to forget about that happening. Yes, the house/chimney or whatever may be struck but you will not be.

    Hope some of that helps

yes thanks for understanding did you know brontophobia as it is better known is one of the hardest phobias to treat by therapists i also thought a window needed to be open in order for it to get into a dwelling

  4. Nick and Others are you listening to the Realplayer Link, this is giving Live updates of Warnings coming through as they happen, click the link and click on Lubbock! A Tornado has now been confirmed on this storm.

Nick that area is a prolific producer of storms, the dryline seems to set up just west of Lubbock or Plainview/Amarillo and they move North east and back build.

Once again that link on page 9 is awesome, it is the actual weather radio we listen too whilst chasing.

    Paul S

aww jus says done when i click on it wont let me get to the link !
