  1. Ive been watching this incredible little feature ;- http://www.sat24.com/homepage.aspx?html=zoom&xas=200&yas=200 its a vortex spinning away off the southern irish coast heading roughly east. Ive been watching it for well over 24 hours. Yesterday morning it was a singular feature I can only describe that looked like a minature hurricane eye included. At around 11.00Am on 5/10/09 it was poisitoned roughly 400 miles WSW of Normandy and has drifted NNE to join the tail end of the slow moving front over SW Ireland. I cannot ever remember seeing a feature like this for its longetivity. It resembled a "Super" supercell yesterday morning, and began to take on the form of a "minature hurricane" by lunchtime yesterday. and by jove, its still there going strong. Looks like an abnormality in the troposphere causing a long lived vortex. Anyone know where we can find Visable light sat pictures for the last 24 hours ( daylight ) to verify this... All very odd indeed. Surely Im not the only one who has noticed this, and there is another post somewhere else where this is already being discussed. Here you go.. run these for the last 24 hours and take a look http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_ir.html http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_uk_vis.html http://www.sat24.com/image.ashx?type=meteox&sat=ir&tijdid=20091061857 Its even changed course in the last 6-7 hours and could now track east even over London !!
  2. Yeah News24 has shifted the snow about 40 miles or so NW, with London, Surrey, and W Berks in the rain now. Risk of back edge snow as it clears south east around 5PM.
  3. You're on the border, the snow line is almost certainly gonna lie somwhere from Weymouth up to Basingstoke, Fleet, Windsor, Watford, West and north snow, Surrey mostly rain, but with some good amounts of sleet thrown in especially around the commute tomorrow morning.
  4. Its actually raining now in the Langton, Yorks Wolds. Why does the MO have a red alert out for snow here ???
  5. I am with friends in Forest Green, in the Surrey Hills north of Ewhurst. Ive measured 13 inches of snow inplaces with some deeper spots where the snow has drifted. Looks like here has taken the direct hit from the overnight snowstreamer.
  6. http://www.sat24.com/homepage.aspx?html=zo...257&yas=193 Looks like after these few showers, the NOrth Sea is clear down wind. I smell the MO overcooking the severe warning for tonight. Jay Wyne's forecast is already looking wrong, he had snow flurries over half the country by 2PM.. In about an hour from now.
  7. Darren Bett needs shooting GRRRR... He just showed Rain come tuesday morning in an arc south of S Yorks across to Manchester South to Cardiff and Plymouth with all areas SE of the lin with Rain and not even Sleet. Wonder how it would have looked had Mr MacElwie been on the 21:57 forecast???
  8. Alas, the kiss of death for a white christmas http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/monthly_outlook.shtml
  9. Afternoon all, we had a couple of claps of thunder during a sharp shower this morning here in Southend the storm seemed to move away towards the north east. Didnt last long and certainly wasn't forecast !
  10. Snow is stalling now, certainly on the back edge, a huge echo over S Wales is now moving due east along the M4 and should reach London in a couple of hours. Heavy snow now falling again in the Heathrow area, a good3-4 inches on the ground at present.
  11. Steve, would you say that the front has more of a northerly drive at present, and the precip progged to move slowly eastwards along the line appears to be narrowing markedly since say 5.30PM. Could the front even fragment to a point where no snow falls in parts of the south east bar a flurry here and there ?
  12. Whats your current temp we have risen almost 2 degrees in 2-3 hours here in Woking.
  13. Hmmm.. I am have a feeling things are starting to downgrade in the south. I was recording -2oC in Woking in Surrey an hour or go, temps are climbing now and the current temp is -0.6oC. Also having seen Peter Gibbs latest forecast, he does appear to have overdone the ramping this afternoon. His charts are showing the main thrust of the prep across central and western areas. Its now almost entirely rain west of a line Swindon to Southampton where as earlier he was showing a lot more in the way of white (snow ) precip. At this rate temps could well be above freezing by midnight in say Surrey, Hants, and Sussex. One to keep an eye on .
  14. Well there is a contact number and fax number at his website if anyone has any questions surrounding the pending big freeze http://www.weatheraction.com I may just give em a call in the morning and ask about the blizzards for the midlands
