  1. PPN has now turned to very fine freezing rain - accumulation is about 3cm. Per the radar we're now on the back edge of it.
  2. According to Google Maps Creswell village is 80m (262.5ft) ASL. NW radar has been showing rain for the past two hours at my postcode but it has been snowing continuously for all that time. Snow has just appeared on the radar about twenty miles to the west of us. Gritters are out in force - 3 have passed the house in the last half hour.
  3. Been snowing here for about twenty minutes, very fine stuff but settling well on the covering (~1cm) we had last night. Temp is -0.5°C. Dewpoint at Buxton is -3.7°C.
  4. Snowing here too although NW radar showing only rain. Temp is just under 1°C
  5. Some interesting NW radar echoes approaching South Yorkshire from the west - where are all the snow watchers ? Never mind....it's turning to rain as it gets over the tops. Perhaps tomorrow afternoon ?
  6. We've had almost everything in the book over the last half-hour - rain, sleet, freezing rain and heavy snow. Last night it was heavy rain and gusty wind and the deep snow cover has almost gone. Looking forward to a nice sunny day tomorrow.
  7. Nice warm ordinary rain here, temp is just on 1°C. BBC seem firm that tomorrow's ppn will be snow on high ground and we still have a lot of the stuff to melt away yet. Hope you didn't venture out on the black ice TM - I was dreading it being black ice here.
  8. That's reassuring, thanks. I tend to use the Buxton station as an indicator of my local conditions rather than yours - he's at the same altitude and in similar surroundings. Temp there is stating to climb. Yes...black ice, - a nightmare. Helen Willets may have been talking about Wales when she mentioned it. Hopefully there will be a little more precision in the 2250 forecast on News24.
  9. Prognosis for tomorrow ? Today we've lost perhaps an inch of the ten inches or so lying in the fields and moors around our location. GFS has ppn arriving around 0600 tomorrow but what will it be ? I would expect snow at this height ASL (~1100ft) but Helen Willets was rather vague and did mention freezing rain which would put the kybosh on an early travel start.
  10. The GFS ppn chart for Saturday is certainly interesting, hopefully it will be rain - I need some respite !! I also need to get into town, = no chance if that falls as snow.
  11. It's frizzling here - 5 or 6 hours of this is going to be very boring We have a squirrel in the garden digging holes in the snow for buried bird food - he's making a right mess of my still pristine snow cover !!
  12. I've been watching the progress of this ppn on NW radar for the last half hour and it seems to have stalled completely about five miles to the SW of us. I was hoping it might warm things up a little and dissolve the solid covering of ice we now have everywhere.
  13. BBC suggesting moderate snowfall here in south Pennines tomorrow PM. We currently seem to have a little streamer over Sheffield but not much coming out of it. Query: how do I edit my location in the sidebar - can't see a way to do it in the profile page.
  14. Just started snowing here in S6 - there is only a very faint smudge on the radar, and I was hoping we'd have a couple of snow free days No sign of a thaw, temp is currently -1.0°C and I doubt it will get above freezing again today. Lying snow remains at between ten and twelve inches.
  15. Temp here has stayed at -0.5°C since yesterday evening. It's been snowing steadily for about eighteen hours - thankfully very fine stuff so accumulation overnight is only about 5cm. I haven't been keeping an account of the snowfall over the past few days but estimate it will be now close to a couple of feet overall. The streamer over Sheffield looks set to continue for the rest of the morning
  16. Re-running the NW radar images I would say slightly north of due west. Chesterfield seems directly in line and the heaviest stuff will slip by just to the south of us.
  17. Snow much heavier now in S6 and some beefy echoes over Lincs headed our way. Looks like tonight's BBC forecast will be spot on.
  18. It seems to be holding steady but seems to be heading for N Derbs/S Yorks rather than Halifax.
  19. Temp down to -0.5°C here and we've had about 2cm fresh snow settled since 1630 when the patio was clear. Mostly light snow I think but haven't been paying much attention since it got dark. Possibility of more overnight from a steady drizzle of light snow - judging from NW radar.
  20. Very slight thaw here over the last two hours or so - now snowing but very light and quite wet. Temp is just on 0°C. I'm expecting the ppn will stay as snow at this altitude. It doesn't seem as bitter in the wind as was forecast by the BBC.
  21. I imagine the ppn now over northern Germany is what will be arriving here sometime tomorrow ? http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-app/radar?CONT=euro&LANG=en&STRUCTUR=_
  22. Thankfully this current crop of snow showers will slide by to the west of us. we already have a foot of the stuff lying around and I'm fed up of shovelling it and running out of space to shovel it to.
  23. Looking at the latest Bracknell charts the strength of the easterlies over the weekend for Yorkshire seems much diminished compared to suggestions a day or so ago. I'll be surprised to see any showers penetrate as far inland as the Pennines.
