  1. Sleet here in Bradfield, with occasional feathers of snow. Temp is steady on 1°C.
  2. According to NW radar the rain is already turning to sleet north east of Stoke as it gets into the peak district.
  3. In spite of our altitude we got barely an inch of snow last night....but we already had about 3 inches of lying snow from earlier last week. Moving on. Lisa Gallagher, on the Look North forecast just now, was warning of further snow over high ground for a while tonight in the small hours, - around 3- 4 am, and included Sheffield in the affected area. We currently have a slight thaw with temp at 1.0°C.
  4. Next question is how far north the BBC's 'Winter Storm' will extend tomorrow night. The graphics suggest Derbyshire and Lincs. will be affected but South Yorks will be very marginal.
  5. The snow pepped up quite a bit here, about an inch over the last hour. Radar looks promising.
  6. Little more than a dusting here so far, but another band of ppn approaches from the west.
  7. Just started snowing here, very light for the moment, temp is minus one.
  8. Probably a couple of inches if you're lucky. Here in Bradfield we have still a good 3 inches lying from last week's snowfall. According to the NW radar the snow is almost upon us.
  9. That splodge of ppn extending from North Wales to Staffordshire seems to be creeping north east. Possibly more snow for Sheffield area ?
  10. About the same here in High Bradfield. The wind has picked quite a bit and there will be some good drifts on the lanes around here. When this band stalls and starts heading south we should get a good second helping
  11. Hi Gumbo - where are you ? We are in High Bradfield and have had about the same as you. Temp here is -3 up from -5 some time in the night. Radar doesn't show any heavy snow heading our way but a decent covering is likely f we get several hours of the light stuff.
  12. Just watched the forecast on News24 and the forecaster had a big blob of white stuff hanging around over S. Yorks for just about all day, perhaps easing back south eastwards in the late evening. I'd be happy with 8 to 10 hours of snow except that it will keep SWMBO indoors all day
  13. Netweather radar is showing light and scattered snow approaching Sheffield from the south west. Can't see anything - is this that kind of snow that falls upwards ?
  14. Interesting night here. Went to bed at midnight and it was still snowing with temp just below zero. At seven this morning temp was back down to minus four and we had a good nine inches of lying snow. Slight thaw today where the sun has got to but temp hasn't managed to get above minus one. Looking at the Netweather radar replay, the snow seems to have died out at about 3 am. I can see a lot of this snow will be lying around until Sunday, but at least it protects the garden from the frost.
  15. The clearance moving in from the south east should crisp things up a bit. I wouldn't be surprised to see minus 4 here in the morning. - still snowing up here in the sticks.
  16. From what I recall of the forecasts this evening - both national and local, the stress was on the heavy snowfall being over the Pennines. My nearest weather station in terms of altitude is Buxton where the temp is currently -1.1°C, dewpoint -3.3°C. The Netweather radar seems a little confused about the extent of the warm sector at the moment, we are apparently getting sleet, but outside it is driving snow in a stiff breeze.
  17. We're about 600 feet higher than you out Bradfield way and have had approx 4ins of snow since midnight and it's coming down quite moderately again now (like goose feathers). Wondering how much more we'll get overnight
  18. Yeah, - my wife's just taken the grandkids home.....don't want to be stuck with them another night
  19. Steady drizzle of snow here in NW Sheffield for the past 30 minutes. It would be nice to have some big fluffy flakes for a change. Yesterday's snow is still intact so we should have a good accumulation by Saturday morning
  20. Sunday too has possibilities for the higher ground from the Peak District northwards...what we don't want is Saturday's snow turning to rain. Just have to hope the cold holds through the weekend.
  21. Snow finally fizzled out about 30 minutes ago here. We've a good 3 to 4cm and it looks from the forecast to be staying with us at least until late morning tomorrow. There might even be some of it left as a primer for Saturday's snow - already showing on the radar. Anyone any idea what time on Saturday that next front will hit South Yorks ??
  22. Has been quite a good snow event for us, - first fall on Sunday evening left us with about 8cm. In spite of all the sunshine we've had much of this remained and was added to by further snow showers yesterday. Today has again be very suuny but much of the snow is hanging on. The picture below is of Bradfield Moor taken from a little way down the lane we live on at about noon today. I wonder what reponse we migh get from the commuters in the London area to the 'how was it for you' question ? [T.M. - my deepest sympathy ]
  23. Thanks Robbie, - Ill try not to query it again !
  24. I don't remember seeing the zig-zag lines shown on the following fax chart before, - (down the Irish Sea and English Channel), can someone explain them please ?
