I wouldn't pay any attention to the daffs, so many varieties have been bred, it's now possible to have them flowering from December all the way through to April. Nothing to do with weather, depends upon the variety.

FB reminding me we had a lot of snow on this day in 2013. Rather poignant reminder for me, we lost one of our boys just before Christmas, the black and white one with his bum to the camera is hopefully playing in the sunshine on another plain, he was never a fan of cold and snow.

Just had quite a downpour and can confirm it was sleet and very wet snow, mostly blowing over now. Dilemma of the day.....go to work, go up and down a ladder all day, squeezing between pergola rails to prune the wisteria. Rails too close together to wear work coat, so only fleece to keep out the cold and wet. Or, stay home, finish curtains. Cold and wet but earning money, or skint and warm and dry? Think curtains may win

Morning all, woke to a clear, crisp, frosty morning with a beautiful sunrise, within half an hour the clouds have rolled in and I can confirm it's all rain. Not a trace of sleet or snow, just more soggy. It may be a different story on the hill tops, I'll find out when I go to work.

Ditto. Not a hope of going up and over the hills this morning, they're never gritted and with at least a 1:4 gradient, not going to even try. Was planning on going the long way through Wells but apparently even the main Bristol road through Chewton Mendip is lethal. Really not looking forward to it. Avon & Somerset police are saying only drive if essential.

Same here. The roads this morning resemble rivers, it's unbelievable soggy down here. Warm or cold, don't care, just want dry.

I'd take a month of cold, DRY weather please. Everything down here is saturated, the rain has been relentless. There's so much standing water on the fields, if we get any cold weather there would be enough ice rinks for half the population to skate on.

Dear weather gods, -2c is more than enough to have a pretty sparkly frost, this -10 malarkey is good for neither man nor beast unless it includes snow. Interesting day at work, I'd prepped the oasis blocks by soaking them in water yesterday, leave them to drain overnight ready for this morning. What I ended up with was green bricks, frozen solid. Defrosted them with a kettle of boiling water, started the enormous fireplace decoration only for the oasis to freeze solid again a couple of hours later. I've worked there for 16 years, not even 2010 froze the tank of water in the greenhouse like last night, more than an inch of ice. Ditto the windows, yes they get a bit frosty but not thick ice like I found this morning. On the plus side, the hare sculpture in the garden looked stunning, hoary old hares.

In warmer weather up there you can hear Nightingales and see Skylarks. And lots of Red Kites.

Thanks. Yes, I took them on the way home from work, it's been like it for a few days, getting thicker by the day as the low cloud/fog has frozen. Check out google maps for the area around 'Stockhill Woods' near Priddy, that's where I took them, it's forestry commission, loads of sign posted walks and parking (free).

I know, son sent me some pics. Just a dusting here, sneezed into a bag of icing sugar type of covering. I knew moving to barely above sea level meant snow was a rarity but you can't have everything, an old 16thc longhouse in an amazingly friendly village, surrounded by stunning views won against the 'love snow' battle.

Afternoon all, it got to the dizzying height of -1c here today so another ice day. It's a winter wonderland on top of the Mendips, everything's coated in a thick layer of frost and it's been like it for days now, it looks stunning, albeit a rather gloomy grey sky. After spending the day virtually stationary in an unheated, stately home sized greenhouse (making xmas garlands) I'd be more than happy to fast forward to spring. I know that's heresay but so blinking cold with nothing to show for it, doesn't float my boat. A foot of snow please so I can stay home in the warm, or clear off cold, give me spring warmth.

Morning all, beautiful winter wonderland drive to work this morning. Top of the hills there's still snow on the ground, all the trees were covered in thick hoare frost and frozen snow, very Christmassy. Work near Keynsham, still has snow on the ground.

I think you could be right, just back in from dog walking, still blinking cold out there.

Morning all, our cold snap seems to have ended here, not even a frost this morning.

Morning, a slight dusting here, son reports there's a couple of inches on top of the hills. Anything else that comes this way today will likely be rain, the frost has disappeared and it's feeling a lot warmer.

Evening all, despite thickening cloud here this morning we didn't get any snow (or rain). I went down to the Somerset levels mid morning to pick up a Christmas tree and there was a fair covering of graupel there. Also saw quite a few Little Egrets on the way, beautiful, elegant, snowy birds, stunning to see wading around the white frosty fields.

And I have to suffer that drive every day home from work, poor old me eh. Sometimes it's the longest bit of the journey, dawdling along looking, thankfully there's lots of pull ins on the single track bits. A while back I nearly died of fright driving past the old quarry, it's now a bomb test site, forgot that until it went BOOM! Blimey was that loud. Back on topic....drove that way about an hour ago, already down to -2.5c, at 1.30 it was -0.5c so an ice day up on top of the hills.

No, road to home. If you take the Cheddar road past Priddy, take first left that takes you over the top to Rodney Stoke, it's on the top up there. Stunning views all the way home, whether it's this all the way across to Wales, or the rocky outcrops and swallet holes or the deep wooded valleys, it's a beautiful drive. If you're out that way, there's lots of stunning walks all along the escarpment, either from that road or the next left that takes you up to the gliding club.

What a glorious day it's been, thick frost, clear blue sky, sunshine and no wind, love it. Couldn't help but stop and take another pic on the way home tonight, another stunning sunset here.

Stopped on the way home from work to take a few pics (quality not great using a phone) This is on top of the Mendips, from here on a clear day you can see across the levels and the Severn, to Wales on the other side. Glastonbury Tor looked stunning silhouetted against the red sky, bit too far away to get a good pic with my phone, really must remember to keep a camera in the car.
