  1. Quick update from here. Very warm, few clouds, no rain. Just had a bbq ready for the football.
  2. Anyone travelling about this morning .... M6 closed N bound before Leyland, wind blew a truck into a bridge set on fire they are currently assessing the carriageway and the bridge. A59 running through Preston trees down near the old rock FM church building. Road currently closed. M61 also busy both ways near Clayton Green. Trees down in numerous other spots locally. Been a windy night here.
  3. I'll give them a buy one get one free, they can have todays snow and I'll chuck the wind in for nothing
  4. I certainly don't want to be in that sweet spot come Monday. Looks a bit nasty at the moment.
  5. Plain old cold (ish) rain here. Walk to the football may be a little damp this afternoon.
  6. Looking at those charts for tomorrow we seem to be in the sweet spot here. Will have to wait and see. Not expecting anything looking at the met forecast, sleet at the moment. Preston Station shut due to damage to the station roof caused by 80mph gusts according to network rail.
  7. I'd say this is as windy as its been here all winter. Arwen caused more damage locally not because of the strength of the winds but the direction, was unusual for wind to be that strong from an almost straight northerly. Today's wind although stronger has been from a more normal direction.
  8. Must have been snow further North and East if we had sleet and hail here. Love the cam of the Settle Carlisle line, a real winter wonderland.
  9. Look at the forecast. Strongest winds have always been shown to hit the NW early afternoon when the storm moves out into the North Sea.
  10. Chucking it down here. Simon King just confirmed on the BBC new record gust of 122mph recorded . Think he said it was the needles.
  11. Maximum predicted gusts UK wide from the UKmet. Shows the risk for the coastal strip in the NW.
  12. Risk still there of some stronger winds for our part of the country this afternoon. Mainly coastal strip lancs into Merseyside but not exclusively. Hail shower here at the moment.
  13. Agree with you. I had been looking at the dedicated storm thread last night, there were some pretty informative and interesting posts in there. Unfortunately as is quite often the case theres now the usual "who has got the biggest sausage" arguements, upgrade here downgrade there and general squabbling and point scoring, which i really can't be bothered with.
  14. FWIW latest icon brings the NW right into the firing line of some of the strongest winds, as it has the low further N. Also worth looking at the period early tomorrow afternoon, there has been fairly consistent modelling of a 2 hr period of much stronger winds for the fylde coastal strip down towards the mersey estuary. This seems to be happening as the low exits into the north sea. Worth keeping an eye on.
  15. Met office warinings updated. Southern half of the UK amber warning for wind on friday, alongside a stretch of the NW coast a little further north. Yellow warnings for snow further north.
  16. Aah the good old green crayon .... just love that green crayon. Still alot of chopping and changing for Friday. Went S now we seem to be seeing movement further N again. Don't expect any snow here its the wind that remains more of a concern.
  17. This mornings heavy rain has cleared through and now the sun's out. Weds, Thurs and Friday all look a bit rough Not sure about snow on Friday but the wind could cause a few problems, also looking at how wet the ground is around here flooding may be in the offing as well. Some interesting weather to come this week.
  18. Not a great day here either. This mornings showers gave us around an hour or so of rain, so much for the dry day that was forecast. Cloudy for the rest of the day. That was after a frost this morning. Weekend looks a bit mixed not.
  19. After a frosty start weather reverted to type here. Dull and damp with rain for most of the day.
  20. Bit of rain overnight, cleared, then we finally see the sun again breaking the run of cloudy dull days here.
