  1. May be a sign of how desperate we are for snow here but i'm delighted with the covering we have here. If we had not had the hr or so of rain/sleety mix first then there would have been a better covering. Its the first time we have had grass and roads covered here since christmas day 3 or 4 years ago. Oh and its still snowing.
  2. Don't want to get involved in a met office bashing debate, suffice to say we are covered by warnings for the next 3 days. Snow and ice today, snow tomorrow and snow on tuesday - it may not happen but i'll add again the threat must be there. Its still snowing here quite a decent covering now, roads covered as well.
  3. The threat must be there or there would not be the warnings on the Met office site ?
  4. If you look at the Met Office site we could be in for an interesting copule of days up here ..... warnings for us out till Tuesday.
  5. We now have the heaviest snow i've seen here for a few years. The back garden is totally covered and its starting to stick on the road and pevements. Large flakes of heavy snow still falling too.
  6. Well after giving up and throwing toys out of pram  its actually snowing here - and sticking. There is a slight covering on the grass and soil, and some of the trees look quite snowy too. Having to pinch myself but its snowing in Preston.
  7. I am afraid ive given up here to. Now we have heavy rain.
  8. Rain and sleet here in Preston - yet another non event in this part of the country. What do we need to get snow here ?
  9. Going to have a run out with the children shortly to find some snow, just think we might not be able to get home - tomorrow nights system does look nasty, i am sure there will be a fair bit of flooding and plenty more snow for some. Just give it a shove 75 miles further North. ADD : New SWW from the Met office for the NW tomorrow.
  10. I have a funny feeling we may get something out of tomorrow nights low pressure, it has been drifting further North on every run - you never know.
  11. Met office now updated sww for SW and Western Scotland in line with the BBC forecast.
  12. Just seen the 11am N24 forecast, not looking good. She mentioned the snow in N Ireland, and tomorrows low pressure for the South and Midlands. Looking at the graphics the rain arrives in the NW around 3 ish and stays as rain for areas around the coast. Snow further inland, the usual thing really snow East of the M6. The heavier stuff seems to be heading over N ire and into SW Scotland and the lakes. Too early to call it a non event but the forecasts certainly are not getting any better.
  13. Just seen the update from the GFS (06Z) has the 528 line further South on this run, can only be good news for us.
  14. Fingers crossed. We had a very cold night here last night there is frost on the grass and on the bushes and trees in the garden looks alomst as if there has been a light dusting. Still feels cold as the cloud is increasing from the West. All the forecasts point to snow - but i have not dared to tell the children yet, i have done that too many times already
  15. I too have seen the N24 forecast. It does look good, but having seen almost no snow all winter its one i find hard to believe. Until it is actually snowing and settling then i am not going to believe it is going to happen. Living in Preston for over 35 years has taught me to be very cautious when snow is forecast as 9 times out of 10 it never happens.
  16. Think that this is our best chance in this part of the UK to get something decent out of this cold spell, the optimist in me says we will get a covering, but then looking at the met office forecast for sleet then snow - and the blue rain areas hovering around on the BBC forecast - the realist in me kicks in and says it will be another rain event for us here. Re registered on here as its good to see others that are "suffering" in the snow desert of the NW and i am fed up of seeing photos of inches and inches of snow all over the UK.
