  1. That's insane! Surely the icicles couldn't possibly be like that! That photo must be doctored  I don't think anyone would be going anywhere fast if that car belonged to them!
  2. Haha! Imagine waking up to that in the morning! I'd be worried about cornering  Very true Iceni they are very dependable cars out in the countryside. Well what can you expect? The government's decisions just get worse each day that passes. I have heard the BMW X5 is actually very poor in snow! Surprising considering is it supposed to be designed for those sort of conditions. And a car that is surprsingly good is the Jaguar S Type Estate that does very well in snow! (Courtesy of Top Gear!)
  3. Morning everyone, Hope all you lucky bandits down south enjoyed your coverings of snow! Anyway moving on, the question I have today for the good people at Netweather is...... How do you think your vehicle(s) would manage in very snowy conditions; ie: on hilly, winding roads etc? Personally my Toyota Avensis would probably curl up into a ball and die! lol! However my mums Range Rover was brilliant a couple of years ago whilst I was still in school. Everyone was sliding all over the place and it just cruised through with ease! I was very impressed as I never thought the newer Range Rovers at least were capable of truly handling off road/treacherous conditions. Then again who would want to try it? I mean what is the point in getting a car of that ilk and destroying it off road? Well not unless you are a premiership footballer who could just go and buy another 10 lol! Anyway, sorry for going off on a bit of a tangent there  Thought this would be a good bit of banter for us today. Maybe have some stories of how people have fared in the past and also future preparations that you may make! WX.
  4. Very, very good post TEITS. That totally backs up what you and I were saying previously
  5. No they certainly haven't and it's obvious that you are of the same belief TEITS. Just remember February 2005 for the closest example.
  6. IMO there is no such thing. We see 20-30 year cycles of weather patterns. Therefore I personally feel that it isn't feasible to be talking about even larger teapot "curses". We will be pleasantly surprised; whether it is this year I cannot possibly say. However I do know that a Hale winter is not too distant.
  7. Guys I was wondering if any of you could come up with some good ideas of what I can do with all thetubs of Ice Melt I have lying around. They're so good I have used them on relatives driveways and no ice or slipperyness was there in the morning so that's not the problem. I have like 120 of them and I was maybe thinking of doing door sales but I am not sure of this. I think now will be a good time for people to buy them but I was wondering if anybody could give me some ideas on how to get rid of them?! Thanks
  8. That's ridiculous! It's not even as if it is advanced technology. Ok if it was 0.1-0.2 out then I would accept it but 2c is out of order. That could mean that your monthly average could end up a degree out of range! Unacceptable if you ask me. We pay money, no matter how much to get products which provide accuracy. If we wanted inaccuracy then we would just damn guess it ourselves and pay nothing!
  9. Snow/sleet/ hail here now turned into rain. Just about 4C now and very cloudy.
  10. Cairngorms! Ooh very clever! lol. Sadly' that doesn't count! Actually I think a Scottish Snow League sounds like a good idea! 1 point for snow falling for anything over 5 minutes; 2 points for snow falling for anything over 30 minutes; 3 points for snow falling for anything over 60 minutes; 5 points for snow falling for anything over 2 hours. Get representatives from different areas and they can come up with a team name for their area and we can run this competition throughout winter. The other debate is the start date! Any thoughts guys?
  11. Ooh do we have a Shetland- Lewis Rivalry forming here?? ;) Who will win in the Scottish Snow League (SSL) this year?
  12. It is very changeable here. dropped another 0.5C and then went back up and now it's on the way back down again! I think wintry showers are on the way for most of Scotland today
  13. True Norrance, the last couple of winters it has to be said haven't been up(or should I say down!?) to much temperature wise.
  14. Looks like like sleet could be on the way here. Temperature has dropped a degree in just under 10 minutes to 7.1C and pressure has fallen to 997mB. By the way this seems rather odd doesn't it; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7752213.stm. Note it mentions that "one of the coldest winters for some years predicted". I though the BBC obtained their weather information from the Met Office who say it will be average if not above average. What's going on?
  15. Ah December, Cold enough to merit a cup of mulled wine Therefore I think 5.9! A mild(er) second half of the month will raise temps despite the cold start sadly
  16. Thanks Greyowl I was looking at the Lacrosse WS-2317U and the WS-3610U-CH but I am not sure which one I like the best. It seems a bit better value for the latter but any help would be much appreciated . I don't suppose anywhere in Glasgow would sell Lacrosse systems?
  17. Obviously you can get a good range online but I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere around Glasgow that sell good weather stations such as Lacrosse etc. Thanks
  18. Weather here; Part Cloudy Pressure 1000.4 mB Temperature 9.2C Quite a cool start overall today. A nice fresh feel but can definetly feel those temperatures have dropped.
  19. Check out Lidl. They are doing weather stations for £14.99 I got one yesterday to see if it was any good and so good so far. It gives temperature, humidity, 12 hour pressure trend, weather forecasts up to 8 hours in advance, moon phase, temperature history and times of sunrise and sunset. For only 15 quid it represents stunning value in my opinion. Seems accurate too.
  20. 18.3C here Pressure dropped to 1014mB over the last few hours Totally overcast, looks as though the sun is trying to break through but cannot quite manage it. There is a bit more of a crsipness in the air compared to recently which has been quite muggy.
  21. To be honest much too early to say. But I would have a go at saying it will be colder than average.
  22. It really depends on all of these factors together not just individually. ie: you could have the right dew point for a storm but the humidity may only be in the 20% region or less. However I do have some old sayings and beliefs on hand which I will share with you. 1. Red skies at night, sailors delight. Red skies in morning , sailors take warning. 2. When the leaves of trees start turning over --- it's going to rain. 3. A circle around the moon means rain is coming soon. 4. When the clouds look like a herd of sheep it's going to snow. 5. When you see birds flying close to the ground this usually means that rain will come soon. When seagulls fly to land, a storm is at hand. Remember the following: Seagull, seagull sit on the sand It's never good weather while you're on land 6. If a cow moos three times in a row, rain will come soon. 7. Wide brown bands on a woolly bear caterpillar mean a mild winter. 8. When you see bees out flying, there will be good weather. But when they stay close to their beehive, a rainstorm is coming. Bees never swarm before a storm. 9. Keep an eye out for anthills. Ants always cover their entrance to their home when a storm is approaching. 10. Look out for clouds. The higher they are in the sky, the better the weather. The more types of clouds in the sky, the greater the chance of upcoming rain or snow. 11. When smoke floats towards the ground you can bet that a storm will soon come. Keep your eye out for toadstools and mushrooms. Usually when they spring overnight a storm is coming. Obviously we don't know if these are generally true/correct. Although I do believe there to be definite substance in number 1 in particular. Hope this helps in any way
  23. Hi everyone, Here in Glasgow has been a superb week! Today has seen a temperature high of 26C but it has now clouded over. Possibility of a thunderstorm perhaps? There are a few dark clouds lurking in the distance. Regards
  24. Does anyone know what the current CET is?
