  1. No I'm not a psychic, but after evaluating the situation, it doesn't appear to be as severe as many people seem to think. A few isolated cases of a few houses being flooded is the most; might make the local news.

I'm sure if only a 'few' houses being flooded it will still make the national news. Maybe you are right though it might not be as severe but however as its in the south it will still make it onto the national news.

  2. I agree, theres certainly nothing funny about thousands of people being killed!

Anywho im confused, is rain expected to come from thunderstorms of dynamic rain with convective areas embedded?

    Joe :pardon:

i doubt 1000s will be killed so don't know where you got that one from?

There could be some thunderstorms embedded but the beeb seem to focus on the intensity of the rain rather than anything else so just wait and see.

Sorry jshaw forget what i said about the 1000s being killed , i know why you said that now.

  3. looking out the window at present and we have bright sunshine and its very warm.looking at the clouds and we've got 2 levels, the lowest level are very dark looking and approaching from the north the high level are huge cummulus and approaching from the south west.whats going on

Just different clouds moving in different directions not really unusural i have to say but can be nice to look at.

  4. As we have had threads about when will we reach 25C or 30C, i thought that it would be good to create a thread conserinng the first snowfall, obviously we have had recent snow in the Caringorms, so i am thinking more along the lines of Inverness or Abberdeen.

When are the first snowfalls usually in these cities??

As others stated its a bit early for predicting snow but just for interest i would say Aberdeen will gets its first snow on the 9th Novemeber

    Inverness - 27th October.

  5. I agree with people who say that summer is not all about high temps. Even if we get no real heatwaves the summer will be slightly above average still. I'm more bothard about the lack of sunshine than tempertures to be honest. I mean today for example was the first day for a while where this area got a few long sunny spells and despite the lowish temps(15 or 16C?) it felt nice in the sun and it was warm enough to wear a t-shirt.

  6. And it does not look like its going to be a nice day on thursday either which could mean no chance of seeing the linguring twlight(though saying that theres little difference between June 21st and 22nd for example) like this area for the last week.

  7. I agree with you Mark we have still got a few more months of heat left, before we are looking for cooler conditions. So far this June its been an East/West split in terms of sunshine and temperture so if i was in the West i would be saying so far Summer is acting as the name suggests but has i am in the East its been more Autumanal but without the wind. I guess it will keep the SST down so i guess that could be good news for the coming winter instead of rely on Oct, Nov and Dec to gives us the cooler conditions. But of corse pleanty time for change.

  8. I think they have several servers so maybe ours has a glitch? I'm on XP hun. Maybe someone local could go and kick it? :drinks:

They do need a kick up the backside don't they? lol. Because recently there service has been awful and i suggest you should send a complaint to them(if thats possible).

  9. I'm guessing the radar costs NW an awful lot of money. There is a lot on the site that IS free but I certainly wouldn't begrudge a few quid if I was more interested in the forecasting side. A radar that updates every 5 minutes is a damn sight better than one that updates every half hour, if it feels like it, only when there is a 'y' in the month and if it's in the right mood :drinks:

I'm with Virgin too Tommy so maybe it is an issue with them?

Even if i wanted the buy NW rainfall radar i probably won't be allowed because me dad knows the met office supplies a free radar so whats the point plus its there money at the end of the day.

I also think it has nothing to do with being on Virgin broadband, i'm on Virgin aswell so i highly doubt its anything to do with them. Maybe because i'm on windows XP? Who knows?

  10. Cos it's a zillion times better and you get what you pay for I guess!

The MetO Radar is still stuck at 4pm.

Well we all got different points of view i guess. Most people said today the radar has been stuck since 4 but mine is working fine after a glitch at 7. Despite the problems i prefer to have a free radar than a 1 thats costs. I guess NW could make that 5 min radar free but then we would live in too much of a perfect world then :drinks: .

  11. Am I the only one getting thoroughly hacked off at the poor delivery of service from the Met Office?

Every day this week there have been significant delays in their rainfall radar updating. For example, its currently stuck at 1930.

C'mon you bunch of incompetents - sort it out!

It has been poor in the last few days and always seems to be stuck at 19:00.

Still i will never pay for the NW radar even if its reliable - me parents won't accept it anyways and why use a one that costs when we can use a free radar which is mostly reliable.

  12. Not a lot here really. Went to bed about 2am. Woke up at 6 with the sound of distant thunder. A handful of sheet flashes, one or two rumbles close by but mainly low distant rumbles of thunder every few minutes. Perhaps the low cloud didn't help. Very heavy rain when I woke up. This eased off to steady rain about 7am.

It looks like the system stayed out in the channel and lost most of its electrical form in the early hours. You lucky people on the south coast got quite a show!

Well you got more than this area got from the whole of last summer, I would be gratful if i saw what you saw this morning even if it was not as good than on the south coast.

  13. Who thinks that the Met office should change the colour of the downpour( which are shown as white pixels) to a different colour because i find it quite hard to define whats a downpour and whats bit the sea when we got situations like this. Or is it just me?

On a bit more on topic now and its looks really good for the SE and EA so i forbid you good luck. I'm going to bed now because the only thing i will be looking forward two tomorrow is low cloud and of corse see how that low develops.
