  1. Hi, thanks for the reply, ive got nw extra so im gonna be glued to the radar later, doesnt matter if the storms dont come to York ive got a car with a ful tank of diesal so im confident i will find something today, either bbc or gfs is gonna be terribly wrong, fingers crossed its bbc.
  2. Help needed!. Gfs and various other models showing convective showers this evening for North Yorkshire, plenty of weather websites forecasting this aswell, yet bbc forecast has us completly dry :S. Gfs has a dark blue blob over us for 21.00 hrs so either gfs is crap or bbc are holding back, any opinions appreciated muchly vizzy2004
  3. Just wondering if anyone could help me to know what to look out for in the charts when it comes to thunderstorms, maybe post some classic thunderstorms from the chart archive or common sypnotics that are good for them. Got great knowledge for snow in winter just havent a clue what im looking for in the charts with t storms. Thanks
  4. You were unlucky then Brian as the sun came out for a whole 30 seconds on my drive to work today, i am also getting tired of this cloud malarkey tuesday was such a lovely day, hopefully some more interesting weather next week
  5. Shows a chance of a cold start to march with north/northeasterly winds, gfs showed this on a few runs now but ecm having none of it. Fustrates me how just because GP says ecm ismore likely to come off everyone has thrown in the towel. He may be a clever guy but the weather will do as it pleases and I am certainly going to stay optimistic about another cold shot before the winters out!!
  6. Glad u saw some snow mate, whats with the ??????????????????????????????????
  7. Spent the afternoon in Yorkshire Wolds snow chasing, disappointing start with the prec not getting very far east, then a huge shock as i was about to call it a day the snow starting to fall and stick, then it kept getting heavier and was moderate for a good half an hour with huge 50p flakes, left a covering of 3cm within half an hour with all roads covered and quite hazardous driving conditions. Was still snowing as i came back down garrowby hill so theres probably more now. Anyone after a proper snowfix go to the top of Garrowby Hill where the wolds are at there highest (247m asl), you shall be greeted with a winter wonderland
  8. Snowing in York but too wet to settle, just been up Garrowby Hill (250m asl)and theres a few cm's of snow and coming down thick n fast. Roads havent been gritted so driving conditions a bit tricky.
  9. River ouse is very high in York today, it iniatially rose yesterday morning but we have had constant rain since and especially around the source of the river, wonder how high it will get?
  10. Yeh its always nice to be surprised. Funny how I spent all Wednesday chasing forecasted snow showers in the North York Moors yet I only saw sleet but last night I had no idea it was going to snow and I saw quite a decent snow shower
  11. Just drove from York to Fridaythorpe and back over the Wolds and it was snowing lightly over the tops, left a small coating in most places, was nice to stop and stick full beam on and have a fag whilst watching the flakes fall. Minimum last night was an impressive -6.6c. The showers are falling as grapuel at sea level as its 0.8c in York.
  12. Not really that fussed about seeing anything significant, especially as the roads up there can be treacherous even after a small covering, i chase most snow which comes within 50 miles of my house and havent done that since december so im really itching to get out and see something wintry even if it is just a wee shower
  13. Any experts got any views regarding this brief easterly on wednesday if the models varify? Wonder if theres a chance of some snow showers pushing in from the coast, would they be heavy? how far would they get inland? Got wednesday off so may take a trip to the north york moors!
  14. Currently -5c here, lovely when its full moon and it lights up the frosty fields near my house, have had 4 days of clear blue skies now, definitely second best to snowy weather
  15. Hi Brian, Yes there were lots of swans, the lake was pretty much covered in all different types of birds, your lucky to live near there mate, such a lovely area, don't suppose you know of a small temple (folly) on top of a hill just outside Hovingham? Vizzy
  16. Went for a drive and a walk around the howardian hills today, lovely winter weather, surprised to see that the great lake at castle howard still has over 50% ice on it. wish it would snow though currently 0.4c so its cold enough for it
  17. Rain rain and rain here in York oh well serves me right for living at sea level
  18. felt the car shake when i was at a standstill on way to work today, thort i was going mad but clearly not!
  19. 28cm currently on the ground in york and still coming down heavy
  20. Forget autumn its winter in svalbard already, snow shwers today
  21. just had moderate sleet in york, bit of a let down, anyone know if things will improve?
  22. Took a trip up onto the Yorkshire wolds last night around thixendale/leavening, still plenty of snowcover with some lovely drifts across the roads, some a few feet deep, felt like a mini version of ice road truckers as they slam through the drifts . Should be a decent top up tonight and will stay as snow up there when maybe it will turn to rain/sleet down here. Anyone living nearby to this area should definatly take a trip there, watching the sunset over the vale of york from garrowby hill is definatly worth the trip!
