  1. yea you have the same thinking.maddness.lol

Yes Nick say's a possability it could ignite............so I will set my alarm clock just in case

ive been trying to time the movement and by my primitive think if it was to reach my area it wouldnt be for another 5 hours !

maybe i'll set my alarm also :)

  2. the last meteox radar image would seem to show a posssible slight change of course but will have to wait for the next few updates to be sure or it could just be the storm is spreading out over a larger area.

not sure what the wind direction is as theres barely a breath outside at the moment.

  3. ive been the following the storms off france and they seem to be now heading more nne but on the sat24 image the cloud tracks over southern uk seem to be more nnw.

can anyone shed any light on the possible track of the french storms ?

    Cheers

  4. 30.6c at the moment !

will keep an eye out on those storms brewing over france but seen the channel kill off storms too many times to get interested just yet.

conditions have turned milky and hazy now with a hot sse wind.

the red kites are enjoying it though using the thermals to rise to heights where you cant even see them anymore !

  5. that mass heading for the IOW has more behind it now !

its clouded over a lot here now but was lots of sun this morning not sure how the rest of the south faired and if theres going to be enough surface heating.

time will tell but it would be nice to see some lightning. can't remember the last time i saw any !

  7. The other problem is that a lot of reservoirs were removed back in the 80's - 90's and the land recovered. So we are now in the situation where we probably get enough rainfall to keep us going even through dry spells but don't have enough reservoirs to store it in.

  11. Not really! We had a powerful thunderstorm last Wednesday which led to some flash flooding, which is what the picture shows. We also had over two inches on Monday. This is not unusual for New York at this time of year, and is the only rain we've really had this summer of any note other than passing storms which generally amount to about half an inch if they pass overhead. This year has been dry compared to last summer.

I've driven from New York to Toronto a few of times, and have hit some extremely heavy rain twice. One time we had to detour from Binghamton to Albany as the I81 was closed southbound (as well as the 17 East). Another time we came back via the Thousand Islands and Syracuse; again heavy rain the whole way until about 50 miles north of NYC. The weather upstate deteriorates much more rapidly up there than down here. They are much more prone to severe storms in summer and heavy snow in winter. The last time I was up there we drove through several bands of lake-effect snow.

If you haven't driven it before, take the I87 to the 17 West towards Binghamton, and then up towards Rochester. If you have a GPS it will take you off the I360 and up the 63 to meet the I90 just outside Batavia. It's a beautiful drive, but I've yet to make the whole journey in daylight. Allowing for stops it takes over 8 hours. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice. This is the first time i've driven this route. I planned to stop off at Niagra Falls and then on to Toronto. From Toronto to Montreaux and then back to New York.

Sorry this is off topic but i want to hire a car that has a decent boot so i can get a couple of big suitcases in but on the hire company websites they are only really tell you the name or model.

    Any suggestions ?

    Thx

  12. Westbury is sat between the edge of the 'beasty' system and the possible new convergence zone. It's been bright with light showers for the last hour or so, fast moving low cloud from the NNW and a gradual brightening from the South - I'm enjoying watching the slight changes in cloud movement as the LOW drifts to the NE.

Since midnight here there's been 28mm of rain, just West has had half of that, and in Swindon way (as reported by Al etc) they've had nearing 80mm looking at the accumluation on NW Extra! What a difference over a relatively small area!

yes really good cloud activity coming from your way. not sure what its going to do.

can see really black clouds with low sagging pouches heading this way so might be a few sharp showers yet to come for my area
