  1. Evening everyone. Well I wasn’t expecting to be posting in this thread this evening, but I’m currently stood outside on the front lawn, watching a storm flashing away over the Irish Sea, just off the coast of Bootle and Southport!
  2. Morning everyone. This morning whilst driving to work, I spotted my first gentle autumnal mist just hanging over one of the fields. Needless to say, this has cheered my cold, dark, miserable heart up no end! The changing of the seasons is now well underway! … Hello Autumn!
  3. Since Saturday I've noticed a distinct change... There has been an autumnal feel to the days in this neck of the woods, and I'm certainly not complaining about it. I've still yet to witness my first gentle autumn mist of the season, but hey, it is still early(ish) August, plus I'm back on earlies again next week, so fingers crosssed. Plus I'm now once more in the world of the pre 21:00 sunsets and post 05:40 sun rises! The vice is well and truly slackening off now. ... Just over six weeks now till the autumn equinox!
  4. And swerving swiftly back on topic... I have to say that being on lates this week, I'm really shocked (in a pleasant way) at how much the darkness has come on at the evening end of the day! Mind you, in just over six weeks we'll be at the autumn equinox!
  5. Come over to the dark side @Sunny76... We have chocolate chip cookies. Lol
  6. Morning everyone. Well the past two weeks I’ve been on the earlies shift, and I’ve noticed the increasing darkness coming along at a fair ole pace in what most normal folk would call the middle of the night. On Monday the 24th of July there was still a dim blue glow in the sky at 03:30, but by last Friday, (4th of August) it was gone! Admittedly there has been a lot of cloud cover which probably has skewed my perception. But now I’ve got a week of lates… So the move towards darker evenings will probably be really noticeable.
  7. Morning all. First post in this new thread, and I see that the U.K. Meto have just issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for tomorrow! I’ve been too busy to look into the full juicy details, but it’s not often you see a yellow thunderstorm warning along side a yellow wind warning! As always, fingers crossed for all of us on this.
  8. I'm under no illusion that summer 2023 has one or two nasty tricks still left up its sleeve, but there's no doubt that the corner has definitely been turned. To all my fellow 'autumn lovers' out there, hang on in there, as things can only get better as we accelerate towards the best season of the year! Oh, and yesterday was just beautiful with its somber, grey glowering skies... The wind, the sheeting rain, just magic! More please!!
  9. Morning everyone. So being as we're currently talking about what kind of autumn that we'd all like...Here's my two peneth worth... For me personally I'd like a nice settled September (with the last of the summer warmth slowly fading) but with those gentle mists evenings and mornings... Just to remind you that it is now autumn. For October, noticeably cooler than September, with those gentle mists giving way to our first grey fog day(s) of the season, and possibly our first proper autumn storm (say something similar to the now almost forgotten October storm of 2002?). I also wouldn't say no to a few of those days when you get that wonderful hazy, smoky, golden light that you can sometimes get in the autumn as well... I'd also like a bit of a misty, foggy Halloween as well, like the Halloween fog of 2015 would do very nicely... Just to add to the atmosphere. As for November... Well, it can start off where October left off, but once bonfire night has passed, I think its about time that some proper autumn storms were unleashed with a vengeance! (Like the one we had on the 9th of November 2010 would do very nicely). Plus a fair few frost starts as well... And I also wouldn't say no to the first snow falls of the season either. Plus on top of that lot, a beautiful display of autumn colours. Ahh well, I can but hope. But whatever this autumn brings, lets hope that its a good 'un for all of us.
  10. It was my first time on earlies this morning since before the solstice, and the darkness in the morning is coming on in leaps and bounds! I had no option to put the light on in the kitchen this morning at 04:00! Mind you, this coming weekend, true darkness returns to my neck of the woods for the first time since mid May! The vice is finally starting to loosen its grip.
  11. Another autumn regular returns Good afternoon @Turnedoutniceagain. Yes I’ve noticed the Lords ‘n’ Ladies turning red… Seems slightly earlier than normal to me. Not that I’m complaining mind. Lol
  12. Evening @summer blizzard Looking at your analogues and if my memory serves me correctly, wasn't September 2014 exceptionally dry? I think October was quite dry as well? I haven't got my weather records to hand sorry.
  13. Will it snow in........ *grabs coast and leaves via side door* Lol
  14. And just like that, they've come in! Looks like you've spoken too soon @Seasonal TrimLol Totally agree @simshady! Seconded, thirded and fourthed.
  15. Hello everyone. I haven't done this for a while, so lets have a look at what the CFS v2 charts are showing for the next four weeks... Week 1 - 12th to the 18th July: Low pressure seems to be centered pretty much over the top of us here in the UK! I'd say expect showers or longer spells of rain, possibly even quite windy at times! No named storms... But certainly blustery at times. But its July, so it should feel pleasant enough in the sunshine. Week 2 - 19th to the 25th July: The low pressure is now centered more over Scandinavia, but we still look to be under the influence of it here in the UK, again a risk of showers, but after such a dry May and June, I'd say that any rainfall is going to be welcome by farmers, gardeners and water companies alike! This could also put us in a northerly or north easterly airflow... But again, it should feel pleasant enough in the sunshine. Week 3 - 26th July to the 1st August: The low pressure that is hanging around Scandinavia appears to be heading back towards us here in the UK! Quite possibly a rinse and repeat of week 2. Week 4 - 2nd to the 8th of August: Well we're now into the final month of meteorological summer, and although the signal that these long range models pick up on is weaker, there is trough of low pressure more or less over us, here in the UK! So more showers and longer spells of rain are possible. But also the high pressure appears to have set up camp over Greenland and the North Pole! So there you go folks! Make of that what you will! I realise that's probably not what many of you want to read, but I can only say what the models are showing. As ever this is the CFSv2, and it does change daily, if I get chance before the end of the week, I may pop on here Friday and what, if anything has changed.
  16. YAY!! My favorite thread of the year! The Autumn Thread! Funnily enough @Seasonal Trim I was only thinking earlier about this thread, and when it would start, You must have read my mind! Lol I always look forward to this time of year, as the heat of summer slowly fades, and the evenings and mornings start to cool and turn more misty... And then as time moves on we slowly see those misty mornings and evenings slowly turn into our first fog day... The sun being lower in the sky giving us that wonderful light that only September and October can bring, plus that gentle autumn breeze through the trees which will slowly turn into our first autumn gale. Plus the wonderful colours on the trees. Plus the nights certainly are drawing in now! Over 2 minutes being lost a day! Oh I'm getting all misty and dewy eyed just thinking about it. What will autumn 2023 bring? I've absolutely no idea! But whatever it brings, I shall welcome it with open arms as always. So just to hopefully get more folk ready for autumn 2023, here's a few of photos that I've taken in autumns from years gone by.
  17. Well folks, tonight is that auspicious night/twilight (or whatever you want to call it) that I have actually noticed it getting darker at the evening end of the day. Since the solstice on the 21st of June, I’ve been looking ever so hard for the shortening of the days… The mornings have been getting darker for a little while now, but this evening I have actually noticed the other end of the day getting more dusky, earlier. I know this sounds crazy, but this now feels like a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders! But such is my summer SAD this year. So cheer up oh fellow cold and dark lovers, as there is darkness at the end of the tunnel.
  18. I’ll start again! My phone appears to be throwing a wobbler! Lol Good afternoon @SarahWxm Yes, something is closing in on us now.
  19. So after a two and a half hour thunderstorm yesterday, with biblical rainfall, it looks like I’ve got another thunderstorm closing in on me! Definite rumblings from the sky to my south, south west. This is turning into quite a thundery summer.
  20. I’ve got a thunderstorm closing in on me. Plus here’s the latest rainfall and lightning maps.
  21. Funny you should say that @Maz… I’m very much one of those folk who thrives on his own company. I fully get where you’re coming from with the idea of caving… I swear I should have been born a bat or a mole… Or some other darkness loving creature. Lol
  22. I’ve already got the sprouts on… They’ve been bubbling away since last Saturday. Lol
  23. Morning everyone. The U.K. Meto have just issued not one but two yellow thunderstorm warnings! The first one today covers Northern Ireland, and the second one is for tomorrow. We all know how fickle storms can be, and I’m just on the edge of tomorrows warning, but fingers crossed on this for us all.
