  1. Morning @Chris.R I feel your pain mate… I remember sleeping through a nocturnal rattler back in 2019… Like you I felt gutted. Ahhh well… Let’s just hope and pray that the weather gods give us something thundery as this Spanish Plume of hell breaks down. 🌩⛈
  2. Morning everyone… Can’t sleep due to the heat. Just had a look, and there are some showers about, and it looks like there has been a flash of lightning over the river Mersey! 🌩 Can anyone confirm or deny? 🌩 Plus good luck to everyone with the breakdown of this Spanish Plume of hell later today.🌩⛈
  3. Just popped outside… Dear god it’s disgusting! 🌡 Anyway… I have seen signs that some instability might be starting to creep into the atmosphere. 🌩⛈ Edit: Does help when I actually remember to add the photo! Lol
  4. Morning everyone. Time for a quick look at the CFS v2 for the next four weeks, just to see if it'll shed any light on the subject... Week 1 - 17th to the 23rd July: High pressure over the top us, and also slightly to the east... Yeah... What else can I say? Other than its looking like this dry spell will continue! Week 2 - 24th to the 30th July: The high pressure appears to have relocated out in the Atlantic, and over Greenland and Iceland! Low(er) pressure over main land Europe, this could leave us in a North Easterly air flow. Will it give us some much needed rain? I'm not sure. Week 3 - 31st July to the 6th August: High pressure now out in the north Atlantic and spreading towards North Eastern Canada! Also a ridge over North Western Russia and Scandinavia! But it looks like we've got a small area of low pressure over the top of Scotland. Could this give us at least some rain that we now need? Week 4 - 7th to the 13th August: A Scandinavian high now starting to stretch across main land Europe, and over us here in the UK! Sunny and settled once again I'd say, but this could also start to pull the winds up from out south east! Warming up again? Ahh well... I'll have a look back in a few days.
  5. 05:20… Well that was a genuinely awful/horrible night to have experienced! People only like summer because it was our main time off for like twelve years or so whilst we were in school. It’s like ‘they’ tried to condition our minds to like it! The actual season of summer with all of its relentless sunshine, heat, bugs is just absolutely atrocious!! Anyway… After only a few restless hours of disturbed sleep due to this damn heat and it’s safe to say that I feel drained and washed out! Oh boy the rest of today is going to be hilarious fun… NOT! Suppose I’d better go and take the dog for a walk before the sun comes up and it gets even hotter. … It’s days like this that I wished so lived in Lerwick! Edit: I’m sounding more and more like Laserguy with each passing day! … Whatever happened to him?
  6. Morning o’ fellow heat haters. Here we go… The start of the Spanish Plume of hell! 🌡🌡🌡 At the moment the skies are very hazy here, so I think that’s keeping the temperature down a tad. Long May it stay like this! I find the concept of enjoying this weather impossible to understand! It’s so draining and uncomfortable! What’s more people actually deliberately sit out in it!!! I can just about deal with temperatures in the low 20s Celsius absolute max 25° Celsius! Everything else is just unbearable and unnecessary!🌡🌡 I just pray to the weather gods that this ends with a proper big thunderstorm, otherwise this is a lot of completely unnecessary suffering! 🌩⛈
  7. Morning everyone, I’m up and about early on this Saturday morning so that the dog can at least have a walk while it’s still coolish. But whilst out with the hound, some quite thick grey cloud has rolled in from the west! With the strength of the sun at this time of year it’ll probably burn off, but I’m really hoping and praying it doesn’t. In my neck of the woods it’s currently a pleasant 19°, and without the damn sun as well! This forthcoming thundery breakdown had better be worth it, as otherwise this is going to be a lot of unnecessary suffering for no pay off whatsoever! 🌩⛈
  8. Dear God! A red warning of extreme heat?! I just want this all to turn out to be a bad dream/hellish nightmare that I’ll wake up from! The next few days are going to be grim!
  9. I’ve already got the sprouts on! Aaaand swerving swiftly back on topic… Today is our first post 05:00 sunrise since May the 23rd!
  10. Just spotted my first Lord’s ‘n Ladies of the season. ?? Just poking it head up through the remains of the wild garlic. Always a good harbinger of autumn are the Lord’s ‘n Ladies. ??
  11. YAY!! My favourite thread!! The autumn thread is open for another year!! Oh, I'll have a nice large helping of autumn this year if I may please, (especially after this miserable summer!) with lots of mist and fog, and a fair few of those gentle autumn days that have a smokey appearance to the air but with temperatures not exceeding 16° Celsius . A Halloween fog like win 2015 would be most welcome, or a foggy spell like we had in November last year. Then for desserts can I have a few proper autumn storms with lashings of rain and strong, gale force winds, (like the storm that we had on the 27th October 2002). I know that summer has gotten one or three nasty tricks still up its sleeve, but the nights are getting longer again, and for those fellow shift workers/Disciples of Dracula the darkness is now coming along at a fair ole pace in the morning, and the evening are starting to get a little darker around the 22:00 mark as well! I'm so looking forward to waking up one morning to find that we've got a proper autumnal 'nip in the air'. Ohhhh I'm getting all misty and dewy eyed thinking about it. The summer sun is fading as the year grows old And darker days are drawing near...
  12. Dear Lord! As if the horrendous heat of the past few days hasn’t been bad enough, I’ve just seen this amber heat warning from the U.K. Meto! I have lived through many grim summers in my time: 1975, 1976, 1983, 1984, 1990, 1995, 2003, 2006, 2013, 2018… And this year with its relentless sunshine and now heat is up there with the worst of them! All I want to do is to just crawl in a cave until autumn arrives. But sadly I have bills to pay… I just pray that this heat ends with a thunderstorm, (a big one at that!) as otherwise this is a lot of very unnecessary suffering for no reason whatsoever! ?⛈??????
  13. Morning everyone. Well I have seen it with my own eyes! The sun’s southernward trek is underway at both ends of the day! Yesterday evening I went for a walk across the fields to watch the sunset. The top photo was taken on the 27th June, the bottom photo was taken, in exactly the same place but ten day’s later, (last night) on the 7th of July. Also whilst walking home, I noticed it more dusky at 22:00. Also for the record, I was up at 04:55 this morning, (as the dog wanted out) and although very bright, the sun wasn’t even above the horizon! Where as this time last week, it would have been.
  14. Morning @Glaswegianblizzard 21:39 around this neck of the woods according to Time and Date. Although having said that, it’s normally about 10 minutes earlier around this parts due to the topography of the land.
  15. Certainly is! ?? … And for the record, this morning was the first time that I’ve noticed lack of dawn chorus as well! So the critters are starting to notice the increasing darkness as well. Edit: I’ve just been mentally working out, and we’ve lost roughly 10 minutes of daylight since the solstice!
  16. I woke up at around 04:20 ish this morning as the dog wanted out. But whilst the hound was sniffing aimlessly at things in the garden, I couldn’t help but notice how much darker things have become at this time of day! I work shifts, so it’s normal for me to be up and about at this time of day. Now ok, it’s been two weeks since we passed the summer solstice, and I’ll admit that I’ve been looking ever so hard for the first tangible signs of the days starting to shortern; but I was absolutely agog at how much darker this time of the day has become! As a summer S.A.D. Sufferer, this has cheered my cold, dark heart up no end.
  17. Morning @stainesbloke Yeah, this isn’t a good time of year for me. When as most other normal folk feel vibrant and full of life, I just want to crawl in a dark cave and stay there until autumn. The flip side of this being November, December, January when I feel vibrant and full of life, and most others feel as I do now. The feeling of dread kicks in for me around April time, (which isn’t a good month for me anyway…) and then festers until around very late July/early August. By then the shortening of the days is becoming ever so apparent, and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel… Or should that be darkness at the end of the tunnel? Lol
  18. Yeah… Guess why I’ve been quiet today? Lol ? Anyway… Swerving swiftly back on topic. Sadly this looks like being yet another bust for me again. *sigh* But here is the latest image of lightning around the U.K. at moment.
  19. Morning everyone. Just to add to the storms forecast for today that others have kindly posted… I’ve just taken the dog out, and saw this lot brewing up nicely the other side of the Clwydian Range. ?? The way this year has been for storms (IMBY) I’m not holding out much hope, but it’s still nice to see. And good luck to everyone with this today. ?⛈????
  20. I really wasn’t expecting this today! ??? Heard a very, very distant rumble of thunder. Turns out to be something breaking over towards Ellesmere Port area. Here are the latest rainfall radar maps, and lightning strikes… Plus my current sky view looking south. ??
  21. Yeah… Time for me to throw the towel in on this one. Another bust. *sigh* Anyway… Before I sign off, (until the next wild goose storm chase) here are the latest rainfall radar and lightning maps, in the hope that they help some other members. ?? But for now, it’s over and out from Storm Starved in North East Wales.
  22. Evening @SarahWxm Sadly I have to agree with you. As @Weather-history has just said, the needle on the ‘bust-o-meter’ has sprung into life. Anyway… This is the current state of play with the rainfall radar and an extremely quiet lightning map. I’m still hoping that something builds afterwards… Although that hope is fading.
  23. No rain here as yet… But this is my current view looking south west towards the Clwydian Range. ????
  24. Really hot and muggy here in North East Wales at the moment. This is currently my view to my south.
