  1. I’ve got a thunderstorm closing in on me. Plus here’s the latest rainfall and lightning maps.
  2. Funny you should say that @Maz… I’m very much one of those folk who thrives on his own company. I fully get where you’re coming from with the idea of caving… I swear I should have been born a bat or a mole… Or some other darkness loving creature. Lol
  3. I’ve already got the sprouts on… They’ve been bubbling away since last Saturday. Lol
  4. Morning everyone. The U.K. Meto have just issued not one but two yellow thunderstorm warnings! The first one today covers Northern Ireland, and the second one is for tomorrow. We all know how fickle storms can be, and I’m just on the edge of tomorrows warning, but fingers crossed on this for us all.
  5. Good morning @Maz Thank your understanding on Reverse SAD. I appreciate that not many folk do understand my craving for darkness. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a bit of sunshine, but I also like my quota of darkness as well, and sadly I don’t get that at this time of year. This year has been a particularly tough and challenging one for me, mainly because June (from an IMBY perspective) was more or less none stop sunlight. Admittedly there were a couple of thunderstorms that made life a lot easier; but on the whole it felt like it was just none stop overhead glaring sunlight with no escape for me.
  6. Morning @Wold Topper and @Seasonal Trim Read my post above. I have finally gotten round to replying.
  7. Morning @ChannelThunderand @sarahng I’m so sorry for the delay in replying… Real life and what have you. I appreciate there are many, many folk, like your good selves, who totally disagree with me, and who can’t understand. I’ve never personally liked the summer period, whilst I admit I’m not a fan of the heat, I can accept that more due to the fact that it can generate thunderstorms. No pain, no gain as they say. Lol But do you remember that autumn heatwave of late September, early October 2011? Now whilst we touched 29/30° I found that a lot more bearable due to the shorter days. But for me, it’s that horrible glarey overhead summer sunlight that I truly hate. Back in 2005(? ish) I was diagnosed with autism … and for me there is just no escape from the light at this time of year. An example of how too much light can affect people is that my local Tesco’s now have ‘quiet times’ (usually early morning and late evening) where they turn off some of the in store lights… Needless to say, guess when I do my shopping? Lol It was thanks to the Netweather forum (don’t ask me which thread, as I honestly can’t remember) that I discovered ‘Reverse SAD’ or ‘Summer SAD’ was a thing! At that point I felt a little bit less like a weirdo, as I found out there were others, many others like me. Plus going back years, and years ago to when I was little, if there was going to be a big family argument or row (which I absolutely hate) it would be summer time when it would happen. So bad memories like that all help to make me dread the mid summer period. As folk have said on here, in the depths of winter, they like to escape to escape to South America, or Australia/New Zealand during the winter, I could gladly do that during the summer, just to escape the excess light that we have here. Now before anyone suggests it, as in why don’t I do that? I can assure you, that it’s not quite as easy as ‘just sorting out your finances and you’re off’. Family commitments, job, etc, etc… kinda prevent me from doing that. Now July and August, are both summer months… But I can tolerate these far better knowing that we’re on our way out of summer, rather than on the way in. There was a period around 2015 -2019 when my summer SAD wasn’t too bad, and that includes 2018! But then in late April 2020, I sadly lost my Dad, and my Summer SAD returned with a vengeance… Like it was on steroids or something. I really wish I could explain better to you both, but hey.
  8. Afternoon everyone Well I can confirm my third Sunday with thunder in a row!
  9. The time is 15:57 and at long, long last; the summer solstice has just occurred! Yes folks, the pendulum has finally reached the end of its stroke! Speaking as a reverse S.A.D. sufferer this is truly as bad as it can get! Around five weeks ago, my part of the world entered the world of the lingering twilight; I’m not gonna lie, those five weeks have been a long, long hard and torturous haul for me. Some people will say that we’re now on a slippery slope; but I see it as a break, a rest, a chance to enjoy the freewheel after an extremely long, and hard and arduous climb to the solstice. I’m looking forward to the increasing darkness, like welcoming an old friend who’s been away. I’m fully aware that summer 2023 has still got a fair few nasty tricks up its sleeve, but this corner/milestone now being turned/reached is something that needs celebrating! In other words, I’m going to be celebrating the fact that we’re now on our way out of summer, instead of on the way in! I’m also looking forward to the shortening of the days, gathering mists, and ripening fruits, as we now head towards autumn. Yes folks, cheer up; as there is darkness at the end of the tunnel! The summer sun is fading as the year grows old. And darker days are drawing near. The winter winds will be much colder…
  10. I’ve got the sprouts ready, I’m gonna start cooking them on Saturday. Lol
  11. Morning everyone. Again, totally out of region for me; but the U.K. Meto have just issued another yellow thunderstorm warning, for today. As I say, no use to me, but good luck to the other members of this forum in tbe highlighted areas.
  12. Morning all. So, just to quote myself from the summer solstice thread… “Well, this is it… 21st of June 2023… The day of the summer solstice. 15:57 is the time when it happens… I’ll see you all on the other side of it”.
  13. Morning all. Well, this is it… 21st of June 2023… The day of the summer solstice. 15:57 is the time when it happens… I’ll see you all on the other side of it.
  14. Morning everyone My apologies if someone has already posted this, but the U.K. Meto have just issued another yellow thunderstorm warning for today. Out of my area… But good luck to everyone in the warning area who’s after a storm.
  15. Evening all. Second storm of the day now incoming from my south, from the Wrexham area. I’m gonna post these two charts up here in the hope that they help others… Whilst I watch and wait, to hopefully capture some more lightning
  16. Just been woken up by a good rumble of thunder to my south! Please let this be a good ole nocturnal rattler. Here’s the current lightning and rainfall maps for us here in the U.K.
  17. Morning all. So just to quickly add to @CoventryWeather’s post, here’s a screenshot from the U.K. Meto App with regards to Sunday’s yellow storm warning. Lets hope it’s a good and stormy day for us all, as I’m sure by now, even the most hardened summer sun lovers will be starting to agree that we do need some rainfall if nothing else.
  18. Just one week to go until the summer solstice... I'm not gonna lie, since around mid May all I have had is inescapable warmth and that horrible glary overhead sun, so as a reverse SAD sufferer, this year has been absolute torture for me. One more week... I can do this... Just one more week until the 'tide starts to turn'... This is now so close I can almost taste the finish line. Edit: I tell a small lie, as I did have four thunderstorms over the past weekend.
  19. Another day, another thunderstorm As much as I hate hot, sweaty and sultry summer weather, I tend to find it much more bearable when each day ends with a thunderstorm The past three days have turn out to be quite a notable thundery spell. Today was my fourth storm in three days! Let’s hope that we all don’t have to wait too long before the next thundery interlude.
  20. The sky over towards my east/north east has just gone very dark… Distant rumbles of thunder, and now the rain has started! My fourth storm in three days?!
  21. The sound of distant thunder So after an afternoon of distant rumblings of thunder on the t’other side of the Clwydian Range, the atmosphere changed at around 17:00… It felt much cooler and fresher… An hour later at 18:00 I threw the towel in on getting a thunderstorm today. Needless to say that the sky started to turn a strange orange colour, and then it clouded over… Then just after 21:30, the sky started to turn dark… Very dark… Black even! And then low and behold, I’m treated to a nocturnal rattler! A very high elevation storm, but I’m certainly not complaining. Three storms in two days!! Fingers crossed for another day of storms tomorrow. Here’s a couple of this evenings high elevation storm over the south side of the Wirral. @SarahWxm @Foxgloves and everyone else of course… Here’s a few pics that I managed to get from this evenings storm.
  22. Looks like I threw the towel in too soon! Looks like I’ve got a high elevation storm!
  23. Well in the past hour, the atmosphere has totally changed in my neck of the woods; so unless something pops up out of nowhere, then it’s a bust for me today. Still, I had two storms yesterday, and tomorrow has potentially as well… So I can’t really complain. So I’ll just leave these to screenshots here in the hope that they’ll be useful to other members of this good forum.
