  1. After a cold night with a minimum temp of 2.0c it reached 8.5c this afternoon we had a few showers and gusty winds but the sun still managed to come out for a while. The snow on the hills has started to melt away now.
  2. It's been another nice sunny day here in Dunoon we didn't get any snow overnight or this morning though its been mainly dry all day. Last night the temperature got down to 0.0c our coldest night since the 19th of January.
  3. A nice sunny afternoon here in Dunoon this mornings thunder seemed to help clear the air we've had no showers all afternoon just sunshine. I took a few photos with my phone of the snow on the hills.
  4. Yesterday in Dunoon saw more wintry showers with strong gusty winds however no low level snow just more on the hills. Today so far has been sunnier with the heavy showers less frequent we also had some thunder this morning during a heavy sleet shower.
  5. Plenty of snow on the hills today here in Dunoon the most there's been so far this winter. We've had heavy showers all day and the lightning radar showed a few strikes nearby. At low level it has snowed for the first time this winter however it just melts away instantly.
  6. Heavy showers here all afternoon with a top gust of 70mph at 2.29pm.
  7. The highest gust here in Dunoon got to 70mph at 2.29pm its been heavy showers all afternoon some had a bit of hail but mostly just rain.
  8. We had heavy showers in the morning with some strong gusts of 53mph. The showers have eased off a bit now and we've had a bit of sunshine. The wind is starting to really pick up now though I think for me it's meant be at its worst between 12pm and 3pm.
  9. Had heavy showers earlier this morning they have eased off a bit with some sunshine but the gusts are really starting to pick up here now.
  10. It started off nice here in Dunoon with some sunshine about in the early part of the afternoon but it soon turned cloudy and windy. I went out to the town just after 7pm it was raining very heavy some roads were starting to flood the wind wasn't too bad though it started to ease off around then. Tomorrow I'm not sure sure what to expect the GFS and Met Office are giving me gusts around 50mph while the BBC weather, ECM and ICON are going for over 80mph gusts.
  11. Wind gusts will always vary between different weather models some tend to drastically underestimate them and others overestimate them. The wind direction can also make a big difference I know I'm sheltered from winds coming from the South I've had gusts over 60mph forecast from that direction and hardly a breeze outside but if I drive 5 minutes away the wind will suddenly pick straight up. Last year I tested which models predicted the gusts the best for a storm I used a number of locations and Met Office stations to record the results to ensure high accuracy. Aperge came out as the overall best followed by the ECM and yes even BBC Weather managed to do well. Other models that did decent were FMI and the GFS. The Met Office underestimated the wind speed on average across all locations by nearly 10mph off the actual highest recorded gust while Icon tended to overestimated the gusts.
  12. Monday night was windy here with a top gust of 65mph our highest so far this winter we also had very heavy hail showers. Tuesday and today Wednesday have been more settled. Sunday is looking very windy again and I hope next week to see some snow.
  13. Another horrible wet and windy day here and the snow has now gone completely on the hills. We had a gust of 58mph just after 2pm then we had a power cut shortly after for about 20 minutes.
  14. Just last week the GFS was consistently showing run after run a very deep area of low pressure passing by the West of the UK but the UKMO and ECM weren't interested in that idea and slowly but surely after about 3 runs the GFS backed away from that idea in a similar time-frame to which we're seeing here. So it will be interesting to see whether the 00z run continues this or not.
  15. A horrible wet and windy day here and this evening a road close to me was closed due to flooding. There was still snow on the hills although not as much compared to Tuesday.
  16. Only snow on the hills here today and just had rain at low level still some nice scenery though.
