Amazing difference in just a few miles! Very little snow left on pavements and roads now, just on the grass. Will be interesting to see if we get a change back to snow when the heavier precip over Sheffield reaches us.

Looks like the northward movement continues until much later tonight and the pivot south east doesn’t start until after midnight. That doesn’t look great for my area. And to put the tin lid on it, we now have rain!

What I did find odd with the graphics though was it showed the afternoon precip pulsing in from the SE, but we can see on the radar it's coming in from the SW or WSW as the hi-res models show
Graphics did exactly that on the late Look North yesterday evening. Still perhaps being pessimistic but if these graphics are right then it remains marginal for most of the night away from high ground. Here are a couple of random snapshots during the video.

Hmm, not sure I agree re temps. I think the less cold air has encroached further north than forecast hence the snow melt and low accumulations even at my 100asl. My weather station is now reading 1c temp and 0.4c dewpoint.
The radar is still showing northward movement, so what will be key for later this afternoon and overnight is when and where we start to see the pivot. If we get a stall and pivot mid afternoon without too much more further northward movement then we might still be in the game as temps and dewpoints will start to fall at a time when solar heating is lower and the colder air starts to move south again.

Back from a walk with the pooch. He seemed to enjoy his first walk in the snow.
We had about 2-3 cm on the grass and 1-2 cm on pavements and side roads. Main road heading west out of Barnsley is slushy mess but no issues for driving currently.
Snow was moderate whilst I was out walking but now very light again, temps up to 0.8c and snow thawing on roads and pavements.
@Steel City Skies Ironically the school where my daughter works announced they were closing at 12.30 just as the snow started to ease off and it started to thaw!
I know the Amber warning doesn't start until 3pm but I have to say the radar doesn’t look promising and it looks like less cold air has encroached further north than expected. Unless there is going to be a dramatic change in temps and rate of precip then the Amber warning is starting to look a bit redundant in covering Barnsley.

Still moderate snow in Barnsley but now starting to settle on pavements and drives. It is still very marginal at my elevation, as I’ve twice heard slushy snow slide off the bay window roof. Temps now 0.4c and dewpoint 0c.
Time to walk the pooch on the local field, to see what he thinks of his first snow! Maybe a pic to follow?

Moderate snow now in Barnsley but still not settling on pavements. Small accumulations now building on grass and garden.

Moderate snow now, but the bit that was on the pavements has now melted. Temps up to 0.4c and dewpont -0.1c so we are currently just the right side of marginal.
i suspect this is going to be one of those situations where if you are in an area the wrong side of marginal you will be very disappointed by tomorrow, but anyone on the right side will be very happy. The largest snow depths are often seen in these situation as it tends to generate bigger flakes and once it has started to settle it will accumulate very quickly.

Alternating between light and moderate snow here and just starting to settle on the pavements. Temps now just above freezing at 0.1c with a dewpoint if -0.5c

Picked up a little here, but still not wanting to settle on paths at the moment.
My daughter is a primary school teacher and she was hoping school would be closed from the start of the day given the forecast. It becomes a nightmare for staff who have to stay until the children have left school, which of course can be problematic for working parents. Last time it snowed bad enough to close the school, the decision was made at lunchtime and she stayed until almost 3pm by which time there was chaos on the roads. Parents couldn't get to school so she ended up walking some of them home with her partner who works in the same school. They then had to walk home themselves and eventually got home at 6pm.

Totally agree! Don’t usually watch them to be honest but just finished watching something on iplayer and there it was in all it’s glory!
Heavier stuff starting to move into our region now according to Radar. Everything to our south west ia coming our way!

Yes, the BBC graphics on Look North last looked terrible, with lots of rain in the mix away from high ground. Seems odd given the Met Office are going so strong in this. Appreciate BBC forecast aren’t Met O but still doesn’t make much sense.

There was just a slight covering on the grass, cars and roofs when I took the dog out for his last walk at 11 last night. We’ve had nothing overnight and a low of -0.5c.
We’ve had light snow since about 6.45 and temps are currently -0.4c with a dewpoint of -1.1c.
Radar looks full of potential, so expecting light to moderate snow for most of the morning and then the heavier stuff this afternoon and overnight.

We’ll be in Hutton Le Hole by then, so looks perfect timing. That is of course if the roads are half decent to get out of Barnsley on Friday! Looks like I could be relying on the AWD to get off local roads if current predictions for snow depths prove correct!

Anyone in here under the band running from north of the Humber directly east to west? Looks like it could be providing a proper dumping, and has only really built in the last 15 mins.

The Mokka may well be great in the snow but knowing from experience (I drive a Volvo XC40 AWD) is that you’ll get stuck behind the majority driving FWD. The XC40, and an XC60 before that, have both been fantastic but I’ve found myself driving down the middle of roads to pass other folk who are stuck!

Light, briefly moderate, snow in Barnsley with enough to put a covering on the grass and cars. Now reverted to very light and most of the covering has melted. Temp dropped from 2.9c to 1c but Dewpoint rose from -1.5 to -0.2c.

Very light snow in Barnsley but radar looking promising for later.

Radar animation makes interesting viewing. The band of snow to the south/south west seems to have stopped moving nne but there are now showers moving from the east. The circulation seems to centre close to Lincoln. So my guess is if we see any snow today it will be from the showers moving east to west rather than from the band of snow to the south.

I think the snow is coming from the wsw. If you run the radar you can see the gradual movement towards us over the last couple of hours. Radar images from 6.55 and 8.55.

MetO Weather Warning for Thursday and Friday was updated at 11.09 this morning and judging by their description they sound confident of snow for all areas, with substantial amounts for higher ground. It’ll be worth keeping an eye on this tomorrow to see if emphasis of wording changes based on latest model outputs.

Based on latest runs, you’ll be there well before it arrives. Expected into south of the region from around 9’ish.

Yeah, definitely. At 100asl we used to do quite well in these situations but less so in marginal events in recent years.
Anyhow, back to snow again now and the temp has dropped from 1 to 0.7c and dewpoint is back down to 0.3c. Just on the edge of the heavier stuff as it edges north so hopefully will get a covering back on pavements and roads.
