Yes snowcover Siberia way looks healthy enough. Mind you 2007 was 'bad'
BFTP
Whats the difference between the grey and white patches in that image?
-
thanks for taking the time to do that liltbrockie.will it be updated everyday?
Yeah of course... it updates dynamically...
I have added options to let you choose what YEAR to start from and What DAY to start from
Screenshot:
click here to visit the ice and snow checker!
(remember... you will have to zoom out depending on how many years back you go so that it fits on the screen in a nice row!)
-
many thanks
can't remember doing that last time but I'll go and look as I'm sure you are correct.
meteorology=yes; pc's=no!!
hi again
I suspect this bit is the problem, bottom lhs of the picc, it gives the file as wma
before it showed wmv
I have no idea why its changed or how to change it back
have you?
cheers
John
Does Clicking "see more choice" not allow you to change the file type?

You'll like this one guys.... I have made a Javascript that displays the past 5 years snow cover from Autumn onwards in a grid side by side:
http://www.kitchenappliancesforum.co.uk/Script.html
You will need to zoom out until you can see FIVE maps side by side otherwise it wont make much sense.

To be honest I think I could produce a more accurate forecast by flipping a coin.
Is that how the metoffice did their long range forecasts?

Used Fireworks 2004 -> used two layers, blend mode set to "color" for top layer (2010).
Used Photoshop CS4 for pixel count, using histogram window to show pixels, with magic wand (Tolerance 0, anti-alias OFF, Contiguous OFF and Sample All Layers OFF.) to select colours.
A better way to do it would be to choose select -> colour range to do the white pixel count.

We have some catching up to do... and it doesnt look like its going to happen just yet.. next few days looks a bit dry in the needed areas.
-
...........and todays!
-
looking very good still and canada is catching up, moscow snow patch has grown.
North america/ canada is wayyyyyy behind compared to last year.

Cool, Please consider the ever growing Google android format, I would love to have a Netweather app on my Desire.
I'd have thought android would be the priority when creating apps these days....

The date on the webcam shows 2nd July 2009 @ 17:57 - no wonder there's no snow
lol balls.
A quick calculation on the ice cover compared to last year shows about 2% more ice cover for this year.
-
Somebody order snow for Moscow?
hmmmm .. well it aint there now :-S

What explains that melt however? I though conditions we're perfect in Siberia atm for snow growth>
Heat normally does the trick
-
Come on people.. the more we talk about it the more it will happen!!
-
Just hope this bodes well for the Winter ahead.....
It may not... 2005 saw must more snow cover for the same time this year and that wasn't a particularly snowy winter for the uk
-
Snow cover in northern hemisphere is up 47% on same time last year.
-
Quite sizeable build ups today:
-
I'm not entirely sure the National Ice Centers website is working correctly at the moment tbh
Yesterday data looks remarkably similar to the day before its, and even now when you click on "Latest" link for europe you get the 26th september come up!
-
A few bits of meltback today and afew gains, equals out methinks.
We're still well up on last year
-
One has to remember that snow cover was well down from average this time last year, but this all changed last October when the turnaround to above average was significant. The end of this month will be very important.
Oh and for those trying to bring Global warming into this thread .... just don't - there are other threads out there.
I Agree. It will be very interesting to see what the state of play is in a months time.
-
A count of the white pixels has revealed there is a 41.3% increase in the amount of snow in the northern hemisphere compared to the same time last year.
-
Based on last years images I am expecting the Arctic Ice to be firmly up against the north of Russia by the 12th October
-
Today sees continued growth in Russia and a nice big splodge just north of the Hudson strait
-
Fantastic gif thanks very much. Please carry on with these in the future.
