  1. Yes, that's a tough one. With flooding at least you can get to drier ground(upstairs, hill) to escape it but with heat there is no escape really (unless you enter an air conditioned building) and it can be unbearable over 35c IMO. But then floods are more destructive to property and infrstructure yet more people die in severe heatwaves so I'm not sure which is worse at all.
  2. Yes south eastern Europe is under a record heatwave at the moment where in Hungary 500 people are dead in the last week, in Romania 30 are dead so far with their all-time July heat record beaten today with 44c in Calafat: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6914490.stm This thread follows the heatwave: http://www.netweather.tv/forum/index.php?s...51&start=51 Sorruy for being off-topic mods.
  3. Earlier I mentioned the death toll in Romania but it is actually far worse in Hungary where over 500 people have died! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6914490.stm
  4. In romania alone 18 people have died http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6913152.stm
  5. Hi, thanks for providing first hand info on that part of europe. It must be unbearable in such temperatures, do you know if any heat records have been broken, is this summer on course to be the warmest ever there given the other severe heatwaves you've had so far.
  6. Some of the latest webcam pics in london show some crazy rain: http://www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/webcams/546551.shtml
  7. From another thread, the rain severity has apparently been downgraded on the latest gfs: http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rmgfs213.gif
  8. When i click on that link it says "this content is for uk viewers only" For what possible reason would they have a problem with people fom outside the uk from watching that video? Does anyone have another link to the same footage?
  9. Thanks. The heatwave in north america is reaching as far north as the arctic ocean where 27c was recorded at a station according to this: http://www.accuweather.com/news-top-headli...&traveler=0 Read down through the article on the above link, it's mentioned near the end. I wonder what the highest temp ever recorded for a place in such a northern latitude is, anyone know?
  10. Nowhere near as much as what's happening to TWO at the moment. It's like there simply is no moderator on the model output forums, anyone could post *anything* no matter how trollish and they wouldn't be chided.
  11. I agree with all of the above. Only one look at both model output discussions on both sites this evening will be enough to tell you which is superior Anyway, this thread is always very interesting to me. I've started saving pics of current ice extents just for comparison for the same time next year. Is it august or sptember when I should expect to see the lowest ice extent? http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/SNOW/DATA/cursnow_asiaeurope.gif
  12. I didn't know swz was one of those iceagenow scare mongerers, quite the opposite in fact?? Look at wat he just posted in a thread in response to the people who have destroyed that forum and are the reason why i prefer nw: "There will be cooler than average months with GWUK. I say that every month. There will even be times when there may be 2, or even more on the trot. . I know you will be shouting "pattern change" in strident tones well before then and I've already seen that trumpeted on other sites and said, implicitly on here. Cooler months are quite quite possible and well within what can be expected. It's fun guys, but it's no more than an unusual small distraction in a long established and continuing warming of the climate. It raelly is not Ice age now and it really isn't going to be. Sorry!oWink" Anyway, back on topic. It's worrying to see such ice losses i the arctic but how is the antarctic holding up(i know it's their winter so how did the last melt eason go?)?
  13. Yes it is, is there something wrong? I know it's a rival site but what difference does it make? OT but I prefer netweather for it's model output(because there aren't any of those iceagenow idiots and other trolls!) and I prefer TWO for it's photography forum and sometimes it's science and climate forum too.
  14. Yes the poster in question saw that graph but says that although it shows the lowest ever ice extent it doesn't show whether it had the greatest loss of ice of a single month because it shows the anomaly from the mean, not the amount that melted in june, here is what the poster said: http://theweatheroutlook.com/twocommunity/...ead.aspx#282497
  15. Do you have a link to back this up because I mentioned this in another forum and a poster wants to see some evidence, thanks.
  16. I find I often get headaches in humid conditions. Ireland doesn't get much t-storms but when i'm in france/italy i usually always get headaches before there are storms on a hot day.
  17. I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't trying to say that the fact that there have been so many records broken is a sign of AGW, I was merely criticising DM for suggesting what magpie said was wrong, which is not true-magpie is right in the facts he stated, anyone who follows the weaher would know this. I myself am still sort of on the fence on this whole issue but I do feel that human activity must be having some kind of impact on climate when you think about the amount of additional greenhouse gases we release into the atmosphere. Is it not simple physics that when the amount of chemicals in the atmosphere changes there is an impact on world temperatures? But then again I feel the earth's climate and it's cycles are so complicated that maybe we dont know the full picture at all
  18. Dm, magpie is right, give it a rest. Last july was indeed the warmest on record etc ,If you follow the weather you'd know this too.
  19. I just watched some skynews of those floods, how come no one is getting that concerned about those intense t-storms moving north to the already badly affected areas? Surely they will worsen the situation?
  20. I dont understand what you mean? The australia storm also got top coverage on international news stations (cnn etc) and it made the news in our irish media too but nothing on the chinese floods.
  21. I've been following those china floods, looked very serious but it's interesting how the australian low pressure gets so much more media coverage than the chinese floods even though a million people have been evacuated while in australia only 5000 had been ordered out.
  22. I'm surprised there's not more people on here considering the storms were one of the main news items today. I found this good picture gallery on another forum: Here Does this mean that the drought in the south east of Australia id over now? I thought they were having their worst drought on record?
  23. Can anyone tell me why (on the IOW lightning page) there are red dots constantly over ne'ern france when you play the loop?
  24. Can you give the link for that because the one I usually use doesn't have any airports in England listed?: Live ATC Thanks
  25. I don't think there's anything nicer than being in the garden on a warm humid summers night and hearing rumbles of thunder approaching and seeing lightning light up the beautiful cloud structures. Enjoy it all in the SE of England It's been glorious here for the past few days with temps up to 24c and due to continue till next tuesday with hopefully thundery showers breaking out by then.
