  11. I could most likely find this if I trawled through the thread but as I'm lazy can someone tell me how long we have been monitoring this phenomena

  13. Has anyone mentioned Norwich sounds unlikely, but get an Easterly blowing a hooly in mid winter and I doubt you will find many places that feel colder
  14. If indeed it does in our life times, which seems unlikely to me. I think however len that we may have to consider that its a combination of factors rather than a single issue.
  15. I don’t want to get into a AGW discussion on this thread but how do know its not a combination of both, why does it have to be one or the other.
  16. Since 1987/88 in my book that’s a bit more than a few. Yes its been a great start this winter, but if it goes pear-shaped from here, then that fact will quickly be forgotten. Although various reasons some natural some man made have been touted for the recent glut of poor UK winters none of them suggest that its impossible to get a cold winter in the Northern Hemisphere, only just less likely. As we have seen some decent winter spells in recent years in other areas of the Northern hemisphere, then that seems to suggest that it is the, poor for cold under normal circumstances position of the UK on the eastern side of the Atlantic that has made us unable to break that run of mild winters and this poor run is without doubt being caused by atmospheric warming changing weather patterns across the northern hemisphere, regardless of the warming being man made or otherwise. For those that believe that this is a natural phenomena it is worth baring in mind that even if this is the case we have no evidence that this will change soon and could it could well last several more decades.
  17. And why do we need to beat people to be greener that’s the question, because it’s not in the interests of the politician’s, economists and big business that are running the world for us to be so, in fact quite the opposite, however an ice free arctic is well in their interests. There are some on this thread that seem to see a government plot to spreading green propaganda but its big business that runs the show these days and they are the people that politicians pay most attention to.
  18. On the subject of white Christmases I can remember only two, the last one was in the early 70s, there was one here a few years ago but alas I living in Norfolk at the time. This is why I said most likely to be mild, by that I don’t mean a heat wave just not cold enough to snow. nothing wrong with a bit of fun but I can not see the point of these forecasts if you want fun why not just make it up of the top of your heads its got just as much chance of being right. Here’s mine 5 degrees C Light Rain Winds SW/W force 4
  19. Nail on the head. Given that we are struggling to model 5 days ahead let alone two and a half months what’s the point. My prediction Mild because it usually is, if only the financial sector made that kind of bet we might not be rich but we would avoid economic meltdown.
  20. Ho ho if I am lost help me find the way, show me the evidence of global cooling and not just snipe. Perhaps diatribe was the wrong word, ramble would be nearer the mark.
  21. Funny that, because that’s exactly what the scientists who put forward the theory of AGW did they constructed their models and made a prediction about the future which many people on this site are rubbishing. So why believe another set of scientists who say the opposite. What I would suggest is that people are mainly seeing what they want to believe is the truth and what in fact most of us want to believe and that is that we are not on board a runaway train. Consequently what we are seeing on this thread is a lot of rubbishing of other people by certain people without presenting any real evidence of their own that will stand up to rigorous debate.
  22. By a geologist and a unspecified scientist in the pay of the US army. Trouble is you can find anything you want on the web that will say anything you want and that includes both sides of the argument, but still no one has really produced a set of figures that prove a long term cooling trend is on the way. It all reminds me of a python sketch A. Is this the right room for and argument? B. I've told you once A. No you haven’t B. Yes I have And so on A. An argument is a collective series of statements made to establish a proposition B. No it isn't A. Yes it is B. No it isn’t A Yes it is, it not just saying no it isn’t B. If I argue with you I must take up contrary position A. But that’s not just saying no it isn’t B. Can be The argument here is that we all know the worlds been warming up, at a guess 95% of skeptics would admit that. First question is it being influenced by us or is it natural and two, is there now a real cooling trend taking place. Now if you or any one else can prove this cooling trend please attempt to do so by stating the evidence from qualified bodies, not just some obscure scientist out in Minnesota a geologist and a clever soldier. As I pointed out I am not a warmist (whatever that is) I would love for you to be right but fear you are badly mistaken. Never mind the science sheer common sense tells me we are interfering with the ecology of the planet at our peril like a plague of locusts in a crop field As for laserguy diatribe I’ll get on to that when I’ve got a spare hour or so to decipher it.
  23. Nobody on this forum would like to see fantastically cold winters something to tell my grandchildren and just for the sheer joy of being able experience the extraordinary, that would be fantastic. More than me I meant to say.
  24. And what might they be. It seems to me that what we have amongst the anti GW fraternity is an inability to make their minds up, first let’s refute AGW then if we can’t win that argument lets just emphasis the benefits of a warmer world. Let’s look at some possible outcomes of GW if it continues in the predicted manner. Sea level rise, well people can move away from flooded areas, the problem being the people already living away from flooded areas are going to get a bit miffed about an influx of environmental refuges. Then there's the problem of areas of the world becoming un-inhabitable, yet again a vast influx of people into areas already densely populated, large scale population movements have a habit of starting wars. Freak weather events, well we haven’t a clue have we, don’t know what types or whether they will occur at all, Then there is our duty of care for the other creatures that inhabit this planet, short of a deity or at least one that seems to take an active interest we have a duty to see that the bio diversity of the earth is maintained. Of course vast areas will be opened up for the extraction of oil, gas and other resources pumping out even more greenhouse gasses and hey we might be able to make wine as good as the French, wow. I really hope this is all a natural cycle but most of the evidence points at that not being the case and most of the scientific world seems to agree including many former skeptics. Nobody on this forum would like to see fantastically cold winters something to tell my grandchildren and just for the sheer joy of being able experience the extraordinary, that would be fantastic. In my opinion the dangers far out way the positives. And as yet nobody has produced any sound evidence of real cooling, record low temperatures being achieved somewhere or other does not refute AGW, to the best of my knowledge no proponent of AGW would suggest that natural fluctuations will not occur in a warming world, As for the BBC program about climate change I thought it was very good it showed clearly to my mind what the skeptics evidence was and how it had been refuted, I would suggest that the reason some thought it biased was because it didn’t agree with their personal point of view. I also agree with TWS that it would help the whole debate if the media stuck to the science and didn’t mention climate change every time we had anything other than bland weather, freak weather events are not new and have IMO little or nothing to do with GW most of the time.
  25. Fred 4 months in 2008 below the 71-00 average is proof of what exactly. I rpeat my challenge of earlier can anybody produce figures that show real global cooling in the last few years.
