  1. It's only the match Europe's been talking about....Blackpool v Ipswich in the cup. I'm not fussed about the football, but i did fancy going to tower models to buy some toys for myself.

You a Lasher then OON? - I am from the other end of the M55..! :wallbash: Tower Models have some decent O

Gauge "Toys" too - Raining hard here in Preston cant understand why the MO issued a warning - there has been some snow during the night but I am not sure how much as the rain has put paid to it and turned the roads to a fine slush - still our game against Col U will be on - Up the Whites.

  2. I reckon the showers that are coming into Cumbria now could give the more southern parts of Lancs /Grtr Manchester an unexpected dumping in the next hr or so, judging by the radar

Yes - Rain Today Radar looks like they are clearing the North Pennines - I was watching these

when they hit the NE and Newcastle.

  3. Another snow shower falling now, with the temp at -2.8C and dew point of -3.8C.

Went up to the Kirkstone Pass today (1500 asl) - left it a bit late for a sledging session - about 3:30 got to the summit in about 6" of slush large drifts to the road edges - cars were turning round with medium snow falling - the Struggle was totally blocked - first time I have seen this in ages.... not much melt up here - plenty of lying snow - the road to Keswick was "interesting" last week over Dunmail Raise at -6

  4. Went up to Ambleside and Grasmere on an easy family walk Deerbolts - Under Loughrigg.Fine snow covering sticking to roads and paths - Had a brew in Grasmere at approx 4pm - pelted down with decent flakes - drove back down the M6 to watch it gradually metamorphasise to sleet then horizontal rain - well dissed off - that could have been well good blizzard conditions for the Snowless county of England - Warm sector well and truly wiped out all expectations - should have stayed in Grasmere - very festive AND quiet - no sign of any Japanese tourists at all...

  5. There will no doubt be a change before the weekend, but there has been some kind of snowfall for sat/sun showing in the model output for at least the last 4 runs now - so there has to be a chance they are on to something,if its still there on Wednesday night then i might even tell the kids :cold:

Don't tell 'em - I did - It didn't happen - they dont forget :cold: Dad with egg on face. Got my own back on Side Pike in Langdale in a mini-blizzard last year - scarred them for life.... :cold:

  6. Surely, surely if that Nor/Norwester kicks in we'll be second in line after Scotland to get some? In my time in Lancashire (since 2002) I still am yet to see non marginal snow last for longer than 12 maybe 24 hours at a push so I wont hold my breath! At least i'll be home for christmas!

No chance! Not even on Jeffrey Hill :good: Get up to the Kirkstone - Dont forget you sledge....

  7. The question is will the NW England snowdome be in operation this week?

More specifically will the Wirral greenhouse effect be turned on as well

:good: Not expecting anything yet again from this....too sheltered from the Pennines...too near the Sea blah blah blah :good: Maybe another drive to the Kirkstone at 1500ASL is on the cards.

  8. Latest from the BBC weather chaps.....

    Monday 21 December 2009 to Sunday 3 January 2010

    This bit covers Christmas Day!

And as usual there is no strong probability of either wet or white!

Indications are for below average temperatures, but for most at least an average amount of rain. So more often than not we will have high pressure giving us frost and sunshine, but with one or two incursions of frontal rain.

If a cold southeasterly wind met Atlantic rain over us then you have the pretty white scenario. Sadly, there is no reason to forecast this at the moment.

  9. Hi Guys.... :D

I'm new to this forum...whats the chance of snow in the windermere area...because we never get any.... :) ...ha.ha...!

.......Your having me on pal....! :) Wheres yer legs? - you not even gone sledging at the Kirkstone (less than 5 miles away from you) - look up to the fells....

Loooking at the last beeb forecast, I wouldn't be suprised to see a mild sector move a fair way inland this evening. Hope I'm wrong, as this is causing many from the North West severe depression, me included!

.....2mm Max so far in Preston - laughable

  10. C'mon guys seriously. Tonights event is most probably a write off. The weekends event will probably end up a write off very soon. Any future events will end up a write off. I am sick and tired of anti-climax, followed by anti-climax. False hope, wishful thinking and totally unrealistic optimism.

Last weekend we all though wed/thurs would be our time. But once again we are going to miss out.

Now we are talking about potential for the weekend. There will be downgrades and we will miss out.

Yes we all know that the south of the region and higher ground have had plenty of snow - but the majority of us here in the north-west have missed out again. I am really starting to get sick and tired of the whole game now - it just is'nt fun any more. To be frank it depressing. Another winter passing by without any more than a dusting to write home about is absolutely pathetic.

.....I obviously am not aware of your physical attributes but if you are able to go to say - Ambleside and pop some boots on you have all the snow you can wish for at the moment - I dont know if you can drive but if you make the effort go to the Kirkstone Pass (one of the easiest passes even in winter) park up at the Kirkstone Inn get the sledge out and enjoy the white stuff - done it dozens of times - we have the Pennines against us from easterlies and coastal location which is too much of a disadvantage - decent snow in Lancs is like rocking horse s* i t - you have to travel and make an effort :D

  11. these are still visible, Very far apart but Jupiter stands out as the brightest in the sky. very bright indeed.

...... I thought Venus was brighter than Jupiter which is nearer the horizon?

Woohooo! Just gotten round to checking the photos properly and guess what?!

    Venus emerging.

    conj1.jpg

    and about 6 mins later

    conj2.jpg

Just goes to show, you can never tell the outcome untill the large lady with the excess avoirsdupois has packed up and gone home

.....Brilliant photos - I missed this due to overcast skies (NW England) fantastic shots nearly as good as "Celestial Skies" - Oh well only 40 more years to wait :cc_confused: I was viewing Jupiter and Venus on the 5th of December when the ISS passed over....!!! quite eerie - took me a while to gather what it was....

  12. lol. going from 'the best opportunity for snow in years' a few days ago, to warmish and crappy rain. and no it wont 'get better'. this is the last time i ever bother looking at any vaguely in-depth 'weather guess' as really no one has a clue about the weather until a day or two before. sure they can say warm or cold or rain, but thats it, and they usually fail in that. :drinks::D:(:D:(:angry::angry:

Couldnt have put it better myself - well said - might as well just look out of the window. :)
