  1. Better snow in Scandi soon because the skiing industry is suffering.

Doubt the skiing season is suffering yet, they may be worried yes, however the season doesn't start proper until mid December, the Scandinavian resorts may normally be operating end of November but certainly the Foreign customers that bring in the money wont even be considering a trip until mid December, will be plenty to ski on by then.

  2. expect some have found this. But the Open University site have an interactive site to go with the frozen planet series on the bbc, on this there is an option to show an interactive map with the ice cancentration for the last 90 days and ice excent since 1979. Hopefully this link will work:

  3. Today, above average. Tomorrow, slightly so. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, should be from average to above depending on sunshine amounts and fog/coolness. Saturday, above average. Sunday average, Monday possibly below average (confidence fading). Next week average should be about 14c-15.5c so imo record breaking temperature for October increasingly likely unless:

consistent polar maritime from 20th to halloween (20% likelyhood)

cool easterlies and north-easterlies giving very low maxima from 20th to halloween (5%)

fairly cool polar maritime and tropical maritime with one nationwide cold blast from a northerly from 20th to halloween (40%)

Latest GFS has temps widely down to 2 or 3c overnight for weekend with max's at 13 or 14c in CET zone, doesn't sound too mild to me!

  4. 6 bedroomed, old stone farmhouse dating back from 1690's. Single-glazed stone mullion windows, oil fired Aga and attic bedrooms, so limited insulation etc. Very thick walls.

Lovely old place, just a bit draughty in the winter - You really wouldn't want my heating bills !!!

yes that would cost a bomb to heat! No I certainly wouldnt want your bills! Im aiming to shut the downstairs dors and rely on the stove as much as I can!

  5. I feel your pain Brother Moomin. If I'm careful, restrict heating "On" times, close off the top floor bedrooms etc, then 300 lts will last me about 4-5 weeks in the winter.......mad.gifmad.gif

4-5 weeks?? Either you have a very big house or have the thermostat right up or your boiler is very inefficient?? We have 3 bedroom semi, wife at home with 2 small children so heating on several hours a day in winter, just got 500 litres of oil, does heating and hot water and should last from now until February or March with thermostat on 20c, and our boiler is nearly 20 years old.
