  1. Persistent rain again all day today, heavy at times, and no breaks since dawn. 30.6mm collected so far and the sky is brightening a little as the low centre approaches. Temperature been around 7°C all day, currently 6.8°C.
  2. Dull and wet all day with persistent rain, mostly light. Current conditions: Temp - 7.8°C Dew - 5°C Pressure - 1022.8mb Rainfall - 3.1mm
  3. Camera reflection, but still within a few hundred feet probably. That dog's a weather nut. lol
  4. Update for here this year: Jan - 72.5mm Feb - 107.7mm Mar - 62.9mm Apr - 1.6mm May - 101.0mm Jun - 88.7mm Jul - 140.8mm Aug - 45.4mm Sep - 18.8mm Oct - 39.1mm Total so far - 678.5mm, which is pretty much average for this time in the year. April and October are the driest I've recorded in my 12yrs of records. July was the wettest.
  5. Italy/Sardinia/Corsica in the firing line now I see, some huge multicells all over that area right now, wouldn't be suprised to see more supercells too. ESTOFEX have a level 2 out btw.
  6. Ah, a moonbow. Quite rare, and I've never seen one. Another to look out for is a fogbow at this time of year. I saw my first one last year.
  7. Hi Andy, yes, sorry, I haven't had a chance to check the other threads today, been very busy starting uni! Looking into it, some places did indeed record in excess of an inch in your vicinity, plus the radar accumulations. Certainly a wet start to October, statistically, in the last 12 yrs of record for here, the average rainfall doubles from 54mm in September to 111mm in October! That's the warm Channel waters for you!
  8. 29mm Andy? Is your raingauge OK, because we seem to have caught a lot of the rain, and recieved just 8.9mm since midnight.
  9. A bit more light rain over the last few days has resulted in a September total of 18.8mm. This is just below 27% of average. The total for 2007 so far is now 639.4mm, around average.
  10. Nice Buzzard <_< We have two pairs in this area, seen daily almost year-round, even in our semi-urban environment. We have enough fields and hedgerows to keep them interested. We also have a pair of tawny owls, and they regularly wake me up in the middle of the night when they perch on the streetlamp outside the house and make ungodly squawks!
  11. Updated to include this morning's squall. 11.9mm fell, most of which was in 5 minutes between 0617 and 0622: 632.7mm for the year 13.0mm for September so far.
  12. I have 2 Washingtonia I have grown form seed. They are now 4 feet tall and have survived every winter outside here since 1998. Winter '04/'05 nearly finished them off, but they're strong as ever now.
  13. 620.8mm for the year 0.2mm for September so far. If we get no more rain this month, then the yearly total so far will be pretty much average.
  14. Snow is very rare down here. The last major snowfall probably occurred in the late 70s, with 1981 providing some too I believe. We've been snow free since 2005, settling at least. The average days with snow falling in a year is probably 1-2, with maybe a 2 inch covering once every 2-3 years. Our snow tends to come from northerly flows in late Feb/early Mar as the sea is at it's coolest and troughs move south.
  15. I call wind up - and besides, he has made no mention of oxygen, just some strange thing I've never heard of - oxegen.
  16. Update, 4th September: Jan - 72.5mm Feb - 107.7mm Mar - 62.9mm Apr - 1.6mm May - 101.0mm Jun - 88.7mm Jul - 140.8mm Aug - 45.4mm Sep - 0.0mm (so far) Total for 2007 so far - 620.6mm (129% of average for period, average for year = 868mm)
  17. I think that life in our universe would generally follow the same pattern, as the laws of physics are the same across the board. There are examples of independent evolution on earth to back up this theory. Anyway, we don't even know a definition for 'reality' yet, so all this could be meaningless. The more you think about the subject, the more dead-ends you come across - it's fascinating.
  18. It's better than the UK's ancient, 15 min, low res updates that are next to useless in real-time severe weather situations. You shouldn't have to pay for access to 5 minute radar IMO. I can get more detail about a storm over New Mexico than I can about one 5 miles down the road. B)
  19. In response to Paul's post above, regarding the SD hail last week, it appears bigger stones were found, one of 6 and 7/8th inches diameter, making it a record for SD. Here's a link with pics: http://www.crh.noaa.gov/fsd/?n=hail2007aug21_dante
  20. Dry and sunny, some mist around dawn. Max temp - 24°C Min temp - 11°C Rainfall - 0.0mm Current - 22.1°C, dew 16°C, 1028.4mb, level, 0/8 cloud.
  21. My personal favourite monster hail vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efJB42jFu-k...arch=Big%20Hail
  22. Jan - 72.5mm Feb - 107.7mm Mar - 62.9mm Apr - 1.6mm May - 101.0mm Jun - 88.7mm Jul - 140.8mm Aug - 40.0mm (so far) Year - 615.2mm (up to 16th Aug)
  23. More rain than I expected here this morning. Heavy and persistent rain has given close to 20mm here since midnight. No more than a breeze, like yesterday, as far as the wind goes though.
  24. No show here tonight, overcast skies unfortunately. Still, I saw a good show last night.
  25. Yeah, then they'll have a reason to be scared! Being aware of what it is and what it can do can be important. The amount of people I've seen not taking a blind bit of notice when dangerous CGs are raining down is unbelievable.
