  1. Estofex only go up to level 3 - 'high coverage of extremely severe weather' A level 1 is unusual for the UK, but we've been under them many times before and nothing has happened.
  2. Dry, overcast with low stratus but still bright. Reached a high of 21.5°C, now down to 17.5°C. Light rain not far away in the channel.
  3. But why would that happen today? There are currently no sferics over the whole of Western Europe.
  4. I assume it's because sferics have been diminishing all morning and just one thundery cell remains, way down in the southwest atm.
  5. I lightningfan, lightning is very rare here, but when it does occur over the sea it's truely spectacular. What date was that shot taken? I've not had any shots since July 26th last year, best was June 2005 and July 1999
  6. Yeah, drizzle anyone? Another glorious day here today, might dust off the camera later on the offchance, I've almost forgotten what lightning looks like!
  7. So will this week be a disappointment thunderwise? Met office/BBC being a bit vague with timings of rain etc, mentioning just 'scattered' for most days. Could be another dry week here?
  8. Anything over France is moving to the West of the UK generally, looking at sat loops, steered by upper flow. Next reasonable chance for general thundery showers prob Tuesday IMO, but the BBC weren't keen to say the 't' word at all for the whole week.
  9. I've just come back from underneath the cells over Hants/Dorset. Very poor visibility, and very capped from viewing from the south. Underneath, light rain and drizzle, odd large raindrop, some very wet patches on A31 near Burley, but nothing of note. No structure visible due to haze underneath. This was about 30 minutes ago.
  10. Some cells on radar over the channel south of dorset, but probably anaprop, or mid-level. No sferics.
  11. I can see the cells over Bournemouth from here in the fading light. The eastern edge of a cell is seen bubbling up to my NW, some distance away. Doesn't look very strong though, and no sferics picked up on the radio.
  12. Any convection long since died away here now, just a barely distinguishable milky white haze of altostratus now. 21.3°C after a high of 25.1°C.
  13. Well we reached just below 25°C an hour ago, but the sea breeze has kicked in a nd put it back to 21°C. No signs of any build up, just some Ac and very shallow Cu well inland.
  14. Looks like we're going to have the warmest day of the year so far today. The temperature has been 23°c under cloud for the last hour, now the sun's back out we have 23.9°C and flat calm. Dew Point 16°C.
  15. There is a small risk of showers in the south this afternoon, but as you say, it's rather cloudy now and the temp is stuck at around 22°C
  16. We had a surprise downpour at 11:15 p.m last night. About 10 minutes after a live local weather forecast sying it would be a dry night! lol
  17. Metcheck do not sell instruments as far as I'm aware. However, there is another company called Metcheck that have been around since 1981 and sell exclusively weather instruments. They are at http://www.metcheck.co.uk/ so maybe they are being confused?
  18. It's looking very bleak for thundery weather for the next 7 days. Just a continuation of the dry/warm weather with not alot going on. Last year we recorded no thunder at all until the end of July. This year looks like going down the same route (only had odd rumble from showers during the early spring).
  19. Well, lightning is deadly, so it's a healthy phobia to have. I always try to minimise the risk when out and about around storms, but you're never fully safe.
  20. Rain has died away now, total since 5 p.m is 5.4mm. (previous 24 hrs to 5p.m, 0.9mm) Winds gusty, pressure 997.9mb, falling. Temperature 11.2°C.
  21. Dry and sunny, 9°C, chilly wind.
  22. Dry with sunny spells today, a little more cloud this afternoon. Another air frost overnight. Max temp 13°C, min temp -1°C, rainfall 0.0mm. Currently 10.8°C and mostly cloudy.
  23. Dry and sunny pretty much all day today, the effect of the sea keeping any cumulus well away inland. Chilly in the shade with the breeze, but warm in the sunshine. Air frost overnight. Max temp 13°C, min temp 0°C, rainfall 0.0mm. Currently 11.8°C and mostly clear.
  24. Overcast, light winds at the moment, light rain (7.6mm so far today). Current temp 9.6°C.
