  1. I'd quite like a spell of settled weather now, particularly as it's the weekend.  I like a good thunderstorm after a hot, sultry day...but end up missing them.  Now it's fresher and breezy and for me not welcome, I'll probably get one after the other.  Not the best day for outdoor activities, which for most of us on a Saturday in Mid July we'd rather want to be doing.

  2. Managed to dodge most of the showers yesterday as they were aligned more to the south.... different story today the conveyor belt is setting up and a steady stream of showers already in progress.   Fingers crossed it doesn't completely write the day off.

3rd ashes test at Old Trafford next week looking a bit ropey at present.

  3. It's raining but not heavy here. Dodged a bullet, the heaviest rain looks to be a little north.  Places like Rochdale Todmorden, Burnley, Hebden Bridge will be getting a soaking no doubt.

Edit: rain started to pep-up a bit now, not the most inspiring of days.

  4. Sun is trying to break through here after a drizzly wet start but also a few more potent showers now ganging up to the west.  So a very mixed day and with a keen fresh breeze.  Kind of day when you are between showers in sunshine you can be deceived into thinking it will stay that way.  Our survey says!.....'Uh-Uh X'

  5. Weather feels a bit sluggish today, gloomy overcast but feeling muggy.  If the sun came out it would feel quite potent.  Not sure we'll see much of it today.

After one of the warmest, driest and sunniest June's on record are we going to be paying off the debt during July.  Looking decidedly ropey at least for days 1-10.  Front loaded summer?

  6. Popcorn Showers forming just east of the M6 and depositing a little sprinkling here on a keen westerly.  Definately a different feel in the air.  Transitioned from a few weeks were rain was hard to come by apart from a lucky thunderstorm to it now being a little more readily available.  The ➡️winds are back.

  7. Heard a few rumbles whilst playing snooker at the local club, now back home and rain is sporadically heavy at times (as regards to drop size) but not intense.  However could more eastern areas of the region be best favoured this time as lots more gathering to the south heading in a north/north westerly direction.  Is this the main zone for this evening's fun and frolics?  Time will tell.

  8. Well last nights 2am wake up was a decent light show but hope I get to witness something later today in less of a zombie like half-asleep state.  Last Monday I only heard a distant rumble as the lightning show went westwards into Manchester-Cheshire-Merseyside.   I'm expecting a good watering for the garden though by the early hours of tomorrow.

  9. It will only dampen the ground I got a little from it now heading your way.  Quite surprised to see a little rain but with the ground being so dry and warm it's virtually drying out on impact.  A bit of rain affecting Birmingham too, so hopefully encouraging overcast conditions to aid England's swing bowlers today at the Ashes Test. 🤞

  10. Jeez just been out to remove some hardy weeds from the lawn, I could barely get the trowel down into the earth and roots.  The ground is rock hard.  Also the tree in my garden seems to be only showing 50% of it's normal leaves at this stage, maybe heat stress.  It's very hard to water a 25ft tree!  I guess green nature is dormant at the moment with this dry spell, I'll expect a mass explosion of growth once we get any appreciable rain.  Butterflies seem happy.

  11. Odd fluffy patches of cloud interrupting the mostly hot relentless sunshine here today..a more humid feel.

Some models sensing the Atlantic will be stepping up a gear?...won't be a surprise, it's practically been in neutral last few weeks with all the blocking.   Maybe a more traditional NW/SE split setting in for late June into July?   Still more water to go under the bridge (or perhaps not) before we can be sure of any future trend.

Who in the region missed out on the T and L, and still has not had any rain?

Had a dollop of rain on Sunday afternoon but I was a spawning centre yesterday, the cells decided to seed from the west Pennine & peak hills and then grow and unleash their fury down into Cheshire, West Gtr Mcr and Merseyside areas.

Thankfully it's a much fresher feeling today but still warm in the sun...we're back in the easterlies.
