  1. Dont worry about these showers, there nothing. A little later we should hopefully see a big batch of potent showers push into north yorkshire/North east england, with a good few pushing into west yorkshire.. well thats if it goes to plan lol smile.gif

I hope you are right. Snow is a bugger to drive in and I am a bit fed up of having to constantly dig out the car to drive for 2 hours to travel 10 miles, but I can't get enough of the stuff!

  2. There must have been at least an inch of new snow last night on top of the 5-6 inches that fell yesterday in Cleckheaton. This came as a surprise as I wasn't expecting any fresh snow, never mind another inch!

In Leeds there also appears to have been at least another inch of fresh snow over night.

Looking on the radar, it appears that there could be a few showers over here in the next hour or so.

  3. lovely deep snow here in shadwell/alwoodley and just started to snow lightly. Amazing scenes. and very unexpected going by yesterdays weather forecasts. Anyone have reports wht leeds city centre is like??

There is snow on all pavements in Leeds City Centre, but the footfall of pedestrians is compacting it and casuing some melting. It's slippy now, but when it freezes tonight it will be trecherous! Back home in Cleckheaton we had a light dusting of snow overnight, but then the real snow started at about 6.30am and hasn't stopped since according to my wife. A rough measurement of 6 inches has been taken by her and my son (who is off school [again!] today). Here in Leeds the snow is light and powdery but hasn't stopped all morning. Very little traffic around, although considering it took over 2 hours for me this morning, is not surprising. Unfortunately my work will not let any one go until the official home time.

  4. Is it just me, or has the forecasting by the Met Office and BBC been terrible recently (ITV is always terrible!)? They didn't forecast the 6 inches of snow we got on Christmas Eve (Cleckheaton / Heckmondwike areas). More recently the temperatures in this area have barely been below freezing, with rain rather than the sub zero temperatures and snow. Almost all the snow and ice has now melted (bar the corpses of snowmen) and we have had rain again this morning. It is now grey and dull and doesn't "feel" like it will snow any time soon despite the weather warning for further snow which in place by the Met Office. Do the weather men ever look outside any more or do they simply only rely on their computers to tell them what should be happening?

  5. do u agree that this snow has reached the intensity of that in feb, because i do and yet its only been like this for under an hour. so so shocked

I don't think there is as much as in Feb, going by how well the car is buried. But the speed at which the snow is falling is is surprising. It has covered a path that I only cleared and salted 30 minutes ago. If (when) this starts to freeze it will get very interesting out on the roads!

  6. indeed thats where i am. just looked at my garden every think is in a very thick blanket, with almost 1ft of drifts up to the conservatory doors and there is a lot more to come. this is absolutly unbelievable. is it just cleckheaton?

Been through Heckmondwike and there is heavy snow there too. Gildersome/Birstall also getting heavy snow about an hour ago when driving through. It was a different world in Leeds city centre at Lunchtime - never expected it to snow today!
