The snow keeps coming for a while yet according to hirlam which has been pretty accurate so far
Dartmoor certainly bearing the brunt of it, and 15cms quite widely by Saturday morning.

So the lowest March max temp in England is - 3.3, looks like a few places have broken it
-
What's the lowest max people recorded today?

Hey guys, I think it's snowing!

Was surprised to see a patchy covering of snow, but looking at the MO forecast looks like a massive downgrade for it to show a couple hours of light snow as apposed to the 20 odd hours it was showing yesterday.

I'm guessing that forecast doesn't take into to account the fact that they are dying out?

Hopefully they allow Fergie more than 30 seconds to give a forecast for the most disruptive snow in years.

Looking serious in scotland:
Snow showers already affecting the area will become heavier and more prolonged later on Wednesday afternoon and at times through the evening and overnight period, with 5 cm of snow falling within an hour in some places and lying snow reaching 20-30 cm and possibly 40 cm in a few places by mid morning on Thursday. Strong easterly winds will lead to significant drifting of lying snow.

We're still colder than the southern tip of Greenland then. LOL. Would be interested to see the 850's between T+48 and T+72. They 0ºC iso 850 must cross into the southern counties for a short period
I may still get to use some more of my salt!
So much ECM data on this site!

0c 850 isotherm just north of the M4 at northernmost extent, resulting in freezing rain early Friday morning in the west country and Hampshire, before several hours of snow.
