Wind gusting to 56mph now.....from virtually nothing 30 minutes ago

Wind is really picking up now, and rain rate has dropped right off. Barometer is 983.5mb and dropping at 3.2mb/hr

March 2008 storm saw a maximum gust here of 67.9mph. Be interesting to see how this compares. Average wind speeds here now just above 20mph, the highest gust today was 42.6mph when the rain passed through in the early hours, and just over 50mph yesterday late afternoon. Barometer steady at 998.0

Yes, probably a little extreme, though in October 1987 we ended up being without mains power for six days and telephone for a day over three weeks. Don't underestimate the power of nature.....

Nothing to get excited about here in SE Somerset. Temp has fallen, but is still +1.1 and DP +0.3. Several hours of very light, wet sleety stuff. Most unpleasant.

+0.2-0.3 all day here. Slight/light snow or drizzle. Surfaces now getting very slippery. Dewpoint -0.7 and the wind is definitely veering into the east - although only slowly.

Apart from the ice threat tomrrow morning, which is clearly a real danger, the degree of cold expected tonight is perhaps a little over dramatised. Exactly 12 months ago, night of 6-7th Jan the low was -10.1 C here.

I don't think the low is as far east as suggested above. Just look at the radar circulation.....Southampton is in the middle of it. Pressure still dropping here, so would put the centre further west.

Having had a break for some food (and drink!) I don't think the low is moving anywhere very fast. Wouldn't think the centre is as far south and east as Bournemouth. Indications here earlier were that is was moving away SE, but the barometer is dropping again now. I'd guess the centre is virtually at a standstill around Shaftesbury, Dorset.
