  1.

But yes I agree its been an exceptionally trying September so far - with little to talk about and not very seasonal. I always rate September as the most trying month of the year weatherwise - it never has a particular character.

True - I should never have gotten my hopes up so much for it during the height of the summer awfulness, but I expected better than this. Truly off the scale in the tediosity stakes.

  2. Apart from a rare cloudy day, this September has been very good indeed. The thunderstorms yesterday morning and on Friday were definitely a bonus to the glut in July :)

Of course, we got nothing of the sort - just bone dry, never cold stagnation. And what do we have today, on what is definitively the start of Autumn? More gin-clear skies, virtually no wind and a temperature which is way too high. Excellent... not. September? Sloptember, more like. October, I'm banking on you to make amends,in spades.

  3. Try gardening in the dark - its not quite so easy to see things. Try painting in artificial light - the colours are all wrong. Try cleaning the house in artificial light - can't see the dirt! Unless you have daylight simulator bulbs in your workspace some close up work/hobbies are much more difficult to do. It's exactly why my dad always did the decorating during daylight hours - so he could see what he's doing!

Gardening and cleaning I leave to the missus (as every bloke should), and six months of evening gardening should be enough for anyone anyway. Painting isn't my scene - be it decorative or artistic. Anything else, I can acheive perfectly well in the cosy glow of artificial light whilst the world outside my window is bathed in glorious darkness. And if boredom sets in, it's easy to make the darkness complete at the flick of a switch and take a little nap.

  4. Evening darkness is rapidly approaching the 'pain in the bum' line whereby you don't have time to get home & eat before it gets dark....

Unless you've had the electricity disconnected, I can't imagine how that could possibly be a problem. Leaving the house for work at 0545, the darkness at that time is total. And to think that it was still light at that time just a month ago. Happy days are here again!

  5. Enjoying the outdoors and being able to socialise more and enjoying a few evening drinks outside.

Oh, is that it?? Was expecting something a little more exciting but thanks for clearing that up anyway. I find the outdoors more enticing and enjoyable when the sun is hidden and temperatures are low, and that drinks are best taken indoors. But that's just me....

  6. Nope. Looks like it is going to be mild and warm for the foreseeable future. Bad luck for you, good luck for most of us here though who want to enjoy nice, pleasant conditions!

Rub it in whydontcha? At least it's getting dark at a reasonable hour - you can't take that away from me!

  7. What utter nonsense. It's days like today with wall to wall murk, featureless grey skies, poor air quality, stagnant air and no sunshine that are suicide inducing especially when repeated ad nauseum as they have been in this horrifically foul and depressing gloomfest of a year.

We're all different, whether the cause be medical, emotional, whatever. What makes you happy makes me sad and vice versa. I can accept that but tend to react accordingly when I'm portrayed as some unsocial misfit for being in the minority.

  8. Well summer 2014 turned out to be pretty stormy - in here at least. Today looks like being another totally misplaced one, frustrating like reading the final chapter of a book in which the author delays the conclusion even tho' you know what's coming. All the elderberries from my garden are now wine, my hops are safely harvested and in storage and the lemon tree has taken up its winter residence indoors. Despite my profound colour blindness even I could see the change in the trees when taking the kid to school this morning. I'm satsified that it's all over, after what seems like an eternity. A sunny, mild day in itself does not make it 'summer',  however disagreeable it may be - all the other ingredients which make it such have long fallen by the wayside... mushy knows what I'm on about!

  9. Seriously what is it with this site and having some sort of weather class system. Are people seriously being looked down on for having the audacity to enjoy sunny weather?

Actually, yes - I find it tends to bring out all the riff-raff. Better off indoors, unless you're one of 'em.

Most people who enjoy an active social life are. Those who are reclusive and choose to abstain from human interaction are not.

How dare you? I choose to socialise indoors with people I invite or am invited to. How the hell does disliking summer and its attendant misery make one 'unsocial'?
