1. I can't believe it's mid-April and many trees around here are still completely bare. It won't be until at least mid-May until everything is fully green - just shows how cold last winter really was.
2. Excellent tool, we have been on it for about 5 years now.
3. I know, and the weather down here is also awful. Alton Towers will still be there during the Easter hols, unfortunately that poor 14 year old girl won't be. Let's just hope lessons are learned from this.
4. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8596056.stm Terrible news. Whoever decided it was a good idea to travel in conditions like this is a fool.
5. Bit of sleet here, bitterly cold out there.
6. Florida widely has the wonderful invention of air conditioning and icy cold swimming pools. Here it is either sit outside in the boiling heat or sit inside in the boiling heat - there really is no escape.
7. Because I hate warmth - simples It's like I don't see why people enjoy 30c in the summer - I can see very few positives. Sure you can go outside and have a BBQ, but 30c certainly is not pleasant. Sticky nights, annoying insects, sunburn, uncomfortable days - not my idea of pleasant weather.
8. Believe it when I see it but I hope they are wrong!
9. -25c you could warm yourself up. At 38c there is no way you could be cool!
10. Where is the enjoyment in recording 38c, must feel absolutely awful!
11. Well it's a legal requirement to aggressively drink alcohol as a student isn't it? Don't think I have much choice
12. Agreed, just lump me between Mark Forster and Polar Continental please WM
13. Never understood the obsession with suntans, yeah they look good but they are just glorified sunburns! I have been burned in March before, have to be very careful in the summer and especially abroad, going to Florida in July so will have to reapply sun cream every 5 mins...
14. Cheers Paul. Congrats on getting all your uni stuff sorted as well! I can't wait either, will be a totally new thing, will finally be surrounded by people who are as insane about the weather as I am
15. Got my January exam results today - and they were a success! The subject where I had most concerns - physics - is now looking much more rosy. Got a B in it, and a good B at that, 70/90 with just 2 marks off an A. That now means I only need 54% of the remaining marks to get the B I need overall. Got 81/100 in my Maths exam which is also an A, and I am now on very comfortable ground to gain the A I need (need an average of 60% in my remaining 2 modules). In short, I now need an absolute disaster in the summer to avoid going to Reading. Oklahoma 2012 here I come I also visited East Anglia Uni yesterday. One thing I didn't like about the uni is the "concrete jungle" nature of it compared to Reading. But I suppose where it lacked beauty it gained in practicality as some of the halls were right next to the Environmental Sciences block! The distance from home also was a downpoint. But with my exam results today it should be Reading I will be going to in September
16. Yeah, got a couple of inches out of that. Unfortunately, during the early hours it turned back to rain. If it stayed as snow I would have got at least 4-5 inches.
17. Seriously cold night for March at -5.8c, that would be a very cold night in the middle of winter, let alone the start of spring! However, it is some way off the -7.6c I got in March 2006. Gorgeous day though, unbroken sunshine.
18. Brilliant, looking forward to that.
19. Are there plans for a cut down version of all main parts of the site? I am a Blackberry user and the home page uses a lot of data compared to sites such as BBC.
20. Brilliant pic there. While down in Minehead last February I saw something similar. Anybody who has been to Minehead will know that there is a big hill at one end of the town, and there was a dusting of snow at the top but nothing at sea level. Also, when you went literally a mile inland there was a dusting of snow. Just illustrated marginal perfectly. Don't think I have a photo of it unfortunately.
21.
Certainly I accept what has happened, high latitude blocking in the winter months that I thought no longer possible has occurred. There is not going to be a book.
Fair play for admitting defeat Ian - you are far better than the Met Office in that respect!
22. Come on then Ian, come out of hiding and defend the M*dern E*a
23. I reckon it will be milder than this winter (which isn't hard!) but still pretty cold.
24. A quick search on Google Maps suggests it's in Suffolk, John.
