  1. 12Z GFS appears to be an upgrade however the ridge to the north is quite weak and GFS pressure shown for 06Z over Greenland appears around 10 mb too high compared to the actual at 12Z. However every slight upgrade is welcome.
  2. There may be particularly on surfaces that do not retain much heat e.g. metal five bar gates. However supercooled water droplets (fog) can exist down to very low temperatures without freezing so rime is not guaranteed.
  3. If the temperature is below zero and its foggy then by definition it is freezing fog whether or not it is depositing rime. It is possible that at that temperature rime was being deposited on some surfaces whether it was observed or not.
  4. Moderate rain at 0800 this morning turned to moderate snow by 0930 which continued for a couple of hours giving a very light covering in places on low ground but the high ground in the Brighstone area had around 5 cms and up to 12 cms has accumulated at the highest point at around 700 feet.
  5. This made me laugh as I thought I was the only one !. My neighbours must wonder why there is a torch been shining out of the window in the middle of the night during cold spells.
  6. For the record snow flakes reported from Sandown Isle of Wight this morning around 1100hrs. Drizzle PM.
  7. The models beyond 144 repeatedly over the last couple of weeks appear to expect blocking to the north or north east but it hasn't really happened yet but of course it is still only November. Another hard frost last night which froze the surface of the ground even here on the IOW. This is pretty rare here so early in the year. Record early snows in Austria. The sign at least at the moment are encouraging.
